High Sierra freeze

just curious alex ... did you have any luck identifying what's going on? i too am freezing (minus mouse pad control) ... oddly, i can RDP/remote control the frozen machine ... and bring up the display ... then use the mouse pad on the frozen machine (showing mouse control non frozen machine) ...

apple QA has really hit the s-tank ... i had 0 problems w/10.12.x ... i'm a heavy parallels user ... and this is my primary work machine ... really *****

I'm shocked there is no solution for this. It should have been fixed by Apple via patch months ago. This is a daily occurrence for me. This is on the latest MacPro in a work environment. I've lost so much confidence in Apple. This system cost my company several thousands and it has given me so many headaches.

I've not had a High Sierra Freeze for over a week now, no idea why not (maybe because spring is coming). Though I did have another problem. I lost wifi whilst browsing the internet. I checked that I could get wifi on my IPhone (I could) and then did a restart (the Mac wasn't frozen on that occasion) and wifi was back after I'd logged on again.

i guess my real disappointment here is just not knowing. not knowing if apple developers have noted this is a bug ... not knowing if they've replicated this in-house ... not knowing if they have acknowledged and are actively working on it ... not knowing if they have sufficient information to replicate ... not knowing if they have acknowledged it as a bug but are short-handed with resources and its priority is set sufficiently low ...

And I bet you will never know. This is what they do.... They never say anything until the either solve the problem or recall the product.

Meanwhile, you have to suffer and struggle to make your computer to work....

So sad...

sadly, i think i'm at that point. rolling back to sierra won't address any firmware updates ... my display freezes 3-5 times per day ... and is ALWAYS frozen the next morning (regardless of how many apps i close/kill)

as a developer myself, and in a large organization, i understand not wanting to have 100 million end users trying to contact development directly ... but they need to know/hear about it ...

i'm not privy to apples QA/QC process/control ... i would think they should have THOUSANDS of computers with all sorts of combinations of HW and SW configurations ... but my gut is telling me they are probably a MESS in-house and their QA/QC process is, for lack of the better word, lacking.

I'm wondering if its got something to do with High Sierra temporarily overloading RAM? That is, if you have 16 GB you are less likely to get a freeze (I have 16 GB and get a freeze every seven to ten days).

Is there anyone who has a Mac with more than 16 GB of RAM who still gets freezes?

Are those with multiple freezes using less than 16 GB RAM?

External hard drives - mine are OS extended journaled because I am a film maker and SSD does not, as yet, provide enough storage. I have one which has a faulty on off switch so I leave it on, but I can't see it as being the cause of the problem, since it is always on at start up, but High Sierra freeze only happens every seven to ten days. In any event High Sierra is supposed to work with OS extended journaled.

... and therein lies the problem when attempting to troubleshoot any inconsistent/sporadic issue/problem ... how long do i wait before i declare "i have the solution" ... personally i look to logfiles to find a red flag that shows specifically what the problems is ... unfortunately i cannot find any relevant entry ...

I have a new Mac Pro with ridiculous specs, but on your recommendation, I'll buy an iMac Pro to fix the problem. Wait, no I won't.

Yes, there are a lot of variables, but people are doing fresh installs and still experiencing this problem. People are doing this and that and still having problems.

You would think that with all of the crash reports, Apple would be able to identify the similarities and fix this.

For anyone else (like myself) who hasn't a clue where the Console logs are - you can find them in the Application/Utilities/Console folder. However they don't show logs for previous dates and a search using an earlier date didn't bring these up, so I am waiting for the next crash

Would be great if we at least knew that Apple acknowledged the problem and was working to fix it. As a shareholder I find it quite startling that they have said nothing and their silence will come back to bite when the scale of this hits mainstream media.

For what it’s worth, I have reformatted my MBP twice and rolled back to Yosemite without a resolution. When I simply use MS OFFICE for Mac it all works fine. When I stream video or view graphic intensive websites I get the three beeps of death. Gradually the machine gets hotter and then won’t restart. If I have to reformat one more time it will be last Apple product I ever buy. The Apple tax, ie the Apple premium, is supposed to be protection money to guard against exactly this! Not happy Apple!

I installed the update the first day it was released. Other than one random Safari shut down I haven't had any issues yet. For some reason, Safari shut down when just attempting to open a new tab but it didn't take the whole system down. But I haven't had a system freeze for a couple of weeks now even before I updated. High Sierra isn't as stable as Sierra is. I am thinking about going back.

I've had sleep/wake issues in early Mac OS releases also. Not so much with Sierra but with some of the other OSes that seemed to get fixed after the 2nd or 3rd update. I am on a 2013 27" iMac. I have also had some issues with my UPS Battery backup tricking the OS into thinking it was running on battery power and not allowing my Time Machine backups to happen automatically. I haven't had that issue with Sierra.
