High Sierra macOS freezing and stops

same on my side, I used Lightroom right after and hop the problem and served again, but this time I did not restart it is unlocked without reboot.

at each start he tells me that CUDA driver is not up to date and there is no update.
could this be the cause of the problem ?

Same thing here. I've updated to 10.13.1 and it looks like to work (a little bit more than before), but when I had to log in again (because of screen lock) it flicker a little bit and then I can't log in. It was just one time, but I will report if the problem persist.

I'm not sure, but some other people told to create a new user account that might resolve the problem.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) have the same problems, 10.12 goes very well. But after upgraded to 10.13, freeze and reboot appears, then reformat the disk and reinstall the macOS and to 10.13.1, problems still the same. Even can't work anymore, many times per day. The worst os in the Mac history!!

After about one week with 10.13.1 I have a feedback. I work with my Macbook about 12 hours a day. Only one total freeze (I had to do reset). But sometimes after few hours, sometimes after few minutes, the Macbook slows down and is almost unusable (for example I try to load a page in Safari). Sometimes in few seconds, but sometimes never gets back. But it helps when I close the lid and use only my 4k external display. Then I can open the lid again and it works fine again. A bit strange I think 🙂.

Update - after checking (turning on) the option Reduce Transparency at System Prefs->Accessibility->Display, within a few hours of use, I had the first hard-freeze in about a week, so no, this option does nothing to fix the issues in question. I did, however, find that enabling that option does speed up the UI a bit, understandably so.

Mac Pro Mid 2010 has most of the previous mentioned problems using High Sierra but with one little hint regarding the slow video response while audio tracking goes on as normal. Using the AMD Radeon 6870 video card with 2GB VRAM the problem gets about 10 times worse. When I go back to the standard Apple NVDIA Get Force 120 card with 512 VRAM I run much better although there is still a video stall problem but minimal with faster recovery...

Mail response is really poor, locking up almost constantly. I now use the iPhone & iCloud to get my mail.. It's hard to believe High Sierra got by beta with all these bugs. Wish I could go back to Yosemite...😕

Thanks Makariolo.. The Nvdia driver took care of the video card stall and slow text rendering which was a problem..

I still have freezing occasionally but only for a short duration which I believe is not entirely the video card problem. Just switching back to the Radeon 6870 card will increase the stall and freezing problem 10 fold.

My system for the record; Mid 2010 Mac Pro 5.1, 32 GB ram,480 GB SSD Formatted APFS, High Sierra Version 10.13.1

My Mac is noticeably slower now with simple task like scrolling a webpage, so I spent some time trying to find a fix for this web driver mess on google.

I managed to bypass the installer's check so I could install the driver again, but it still would not enable it.

Turns out NVIDIA Web Driver always behave this way and NVIDIA generally releases a new version between 24 to 48 hours after Apple releases a new update.

Now I'm just waiting for the update to be online.

So if you rely on this driver right now and you installed the latest patch from Apple, you might want to pospone rebooting until the updated driver is available. (note that reboot is not required for the security patch to be effective, I just installed an update for another software that did require a reboot... Bad luck...).

Part of the High Sierra problem has to do with the video cards. Thunderbolt is not installed anywhere in my system, 5.1 Mac Pro. At this time the latest OSX default video driver is giving shorter stalls and freezes than the latest Nivida driver. Mac mail or me.com is still a mess so I'm using iCloud or my iPhone to get mail. My text still shows on the screen albeit a bit delayed at times.

We all know Apple is aware and working on this. I can't help but wonder what cpu's the beta testers were using???

It doesn't happen to me that often, but I think High Sierra has become wedged at least 3 times for me. I can move the mouse, but I can't click on anything and I can't type. This never happened when I was Beta testing High Sierra, though I did have a few crashes. This began when I switched to the production release of High Sierra. Could be Chrome-related, but I'm not certain of that.

high Sierra 10.13.1

freezes upon wake up after sleep - sometimes losing mouse and/or keyboard so can’t log back in

freezes mid function - mouse moves but no control

spinning beach ball from **** - I see this way too much and am now stressed about deadlines because I can’t do any work

Apple performance on OS X has been slipping for years

praying for Adobe to release on Linux and we can banish the greedy suckers

Same Problem here:

MBPR 2012, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD.

Memory used was around 12.5 GB (so no memory issue)

Swap used: 97.8 MB. i.e. no swapping.

Compressed memory: 164.2 MB i.e. CPU usage for decompressing RAM is minimal.

CPU UTILIZATION: 40-50 % min 170% total between kernel_task, WindowServer, Google Chrome helper ... etc. One of them will hit 100% when I am using the system.

CPU starts throttling back. Temperatures are at 103C. Not kidding. I should use it to make tea. And I am not even compiling anything.

And HW acceleration is ON.

OS: 10.13.1. !0.13.2 is slightly better. It was fine before High Sierra. I was running multiple videos and Adobe Lightroom, etc.

Anything brings the system to a very bad state. Some issues I saw:

1. System freezes on a regular basis. Requires reboot.

2. Clicking on an app does not bring its windows to the top of the screen for a long time. Sometimes never.

3. Dragging windows may not even work.

4. Windows dragging is very jerky when it works.

5. Time Capsule backup brings the system down to its knees.

6. Appreciable delay while typing: MS Word, text edit, anything. This looks like a TTY terminal during the mainframe days before a class final project.

7. Can't Skype or do Hangout, Webex, etc. and take notes at the same time.

8. Switching between logon screens takes a long time.

9. Login can take a long time.It does some rotation thing. Just make it work before making in fancy.

And I am not even a QA engineer. This is the worst release from Apple. EVER.

Yea, I have not had a TON of things happen, more than should be for sure but not too severe.

THAT SAID, just a few minutes ago, half my keyboard stopped working, I could not use the delete, or some of my keys and no screen shots etc. I ran maintenance scripts, rebooted, and so far it's been fixed. ALSO, to note - these problems only happened AFTER I connected to wifi. I had the computer sleep for about a few hours, woke it up and logged into my account and shazam. Another thing to note - I should have some system files which everyone else has that are not there.

There were also a host of PID's when I ran pmset -g assertions, which were running - which went away down to three... which must be my 'normal' because I had 4% drop in battery over night after closing lid.

I've 2 cases like this since upgrading to macOS High Sierra on my macbook pro with touch bar:

1/ My mbp is connected to my TV using a USB-C to HDMI cable. When going back from sleep, and when the cable is plugged, the mouse suddendly lags something like every 4 seconds I have a one second lag. I fix this by unplugging the cable

2/ When lauching starcraft 2, I see that sometimes I have an unusually low framerate at the start of the game, like 30fps compared to a usual 130.
