printer problems HPLaserjet M553

After installing High Sierra update I'm experiencing problems in printing with mail, word, excel, adobe. I've a HP Laserjet Enterprise M553 with IMac late 2013. The following errors appears when printing:

ERROR: Undefinedresult

OFFENDING COMMAND: show

I've already installed firmware printer updates, printer software updates. I've tried with a USB connection and with a LAN connection but the problem is always the same. Any suggestion ?

thanx in advance

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015), macOS High Sierra (10.13)

Hi Robert (rhfoster34)

There are a couple of workarounds.

1. Install Calibri font into FontBook; you may need to exactly follow the instructions given (see below).
2. Change the default fonts in Word and Excel away from Calibri.

Note that this doesn't solve the problem for PDFs created in 10.13.x.

Re 1, " I downloaded a bunch of MS fonts from Apple StackExchange <https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/128091/where-can-i-find-default-micros oft-fonts-calibri-ca...> and installed Calibri and Cambria, following the instructions there. Restarting the iMac was essential."
see After Update to Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra - Printer M553dn un... - Page 11 - HP Support Forum - 6388132

my message 110. You don't need to install Cambria.

Yes, if you go to HP Customer Support for Printers, Laptops, PCs, Desktops, Tablets and More | HP® Customer Support and update the firmware plus the driver, the problem is fixed. I did it on the German site, but I guess they have the same files. Even my astrology program shows the correct symbols when printed.

I have the ColorLaserJet Enterprise M553. Modifying the PPD hadn't worked for me.

Hi Veit-Yvon,

Your situation seemed at first to run counter to what has been described both on the HP and Apple boards.

Then I realised that you might be printing a pdf file that wasn't produced under High Sierra; the reverse is often described, of files that will print when remedies have been applied, but the PDFs still won't print from Acrobat—because they were produced under High Sierra, and these instances are fully understandable in the context of the rasteriser fix.
If that doesn't explain your comment, and my reasoning is not faulty, your situation would seem to be quite unusual.

Same here. I have a HP Laserjet M506 and get the same error message when printing certain MS Word, XLS and Apple Mail documents. This is very painful. This happens both on my late 2012 imac as well as on my mid 2014 Mac Book Pro.

I tried resetting printer system but this did not resolve the issue. Installing the latest HP firmware update and HP MacOS 10.13 software drivers dated September did somewhat help (before I suddenly could not print at all, now the xshow error appears) but does not resolve the issue at all. Some documents I can print. Some not. Changing the communication protocol to the printer (Airprint vs. Bonjour vs. Ethernet) did not change this at all.

Someone able to help? Probable needs HP working with Apple to fix....

Thank you!

We really need this fixed, Apple! It's been almost 2 months since 10.13 came out. Where is that "just works" that Apple used to be famous for? Printing is a must-have for your users, it's not an optional feature to be left for a later patch. I waited to update to 10.13 so you could get the kinks out, now I update just to find out you still have this type of stuff going on?

There is nothing more to say!
