printer problems HPLaserjet M553

After installing High Sierra update I'm experiencing problems in printing with mail, word, excel, adobe. I've a HP Laserjet Enterprise M553 with IMac late 2013. The following errors appears when printing:

ERROR: Undefinedresult

OFFENDING COMMAND: show

I've already installed firmware printer updates, printer software updates. I've tried with a USB connection and with a LAN connection but the problem is always the same. Any suggestion ?

thanx in advance

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, Late 2015), macOS High Sierra (10.13)

Hi Robert (rhfoster34)

There are a couple of workarounds.

1. Install Calibri font into FontBook; you may need to exactly follow the instructions given (see below).
2. Change the default fonts in Word and Excel away from Calibri.

Note that this doesn't solve the problem for PDFs created in 10.13.x.

Re 1, " I downloaded a bunch of MS fonts from Apple StackExchange <https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/128091/where-can-i-find-default-micros oft-fonts-calibri-ca...> and installed Calibri and Cambria, following the instructions there. Restarting the iMac was essential."
see After Update to Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra - Printer M553dn un... - Page 11 - HP Support Forum - 6388132

my message 110. You don't need to install Cambria.

I have the same problem when printing PDF files (I did not try printing Office-files yet).

It is definetifely a problem with macOS High Sierra. I still have my MacBook Pro from work and we will not upgrade to High Sierra because of a couple of problems High Sierra has in an corporate environment.

Sad to see that Apple's priorities are so low when it comes to professional users.

Hi everyone,

I have contact HP they give the following solution:

Go to the printer driver and instal a new printer. Select Airprint instead of the automatic selection.

I know it's a basic mobile driver but it works for me fine. They are working an a new firmware...

Please also notice that when you search for a new firmware on hp.com to select an older version of the mac version. There is the new firmware 3.9! When you select the newest mac version you get the old version...

I hope this well help some people

Thanks, but unfortunately it won't help in my case. I've installed a new firmware today and it doesn't change anything...

Once again I would like to draw your attention to the HP Support Forum: Re: After Update to Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra - Printer M553d... - Page 19 - HP Support Forum - 6388132

And I replicate my positive experience with MacOS 10.13.4 Beta, although this version should not be used except for tests:

1) MacOS 10.13.4 Beta allows to print on our HP Laserjet 500 color M551n without any special measures and with various apps that had severe problems before.

2) Some pdfs generated with 10.13.1 or 10.13.2 (did not check 10.13.3) that produced the well-known error "xshow..." before still produce this error when printed with Preview and 10.13.4. So they have to be updated or corrected.

3) A word of caution: /Library/Printer/hp shows a lot of interesting changes and additions. In particular there is a completely new folder "laserjet" that does not look like a very systematic coverage of HP printers. And in the folder "cups" there are many new "...driver" entries. And there are further changes in /Library/Printer/hp. Evidently, lots of things happened nad have to be verified during the beta tests. - Nevertheless, great that someting positive happend. Thank you.
