iPhone 6 keeps restarting after new iOS 11 update

I am currently abroad on the other side of the world and i've recently updated my iPhone 6 iOS to the newest 11 and after I charged my phone to 100% in this location, my phone keeps restarting. This is the second time this has happened. The first time after I charged it to 100%, I unplugged and the problem began. I plugged it back in and it said 1% while charging but when unplugged showed its true battery percentage. I was able to run it down to 10% where it went to Low Battery Mode and it all seemed to go back to normal.

A few days later (today) I charged it to 100% again thinking this time it will be ok, but after an all day tour (pictures and uploading included) it was still 100% at the end of the day which I found odd. I shut down my phone (mistake) the normal way by holding the power button, and after I turned it back on, it immediately said 1% and the restarting began. Even when I charge my phone now it says 1% and after unplugging still says 1% whereas before it showed its true percentage. I don't think I'm able to run it down to Low Battery Mode like last time. I'm at a loss and the nearest apple store is 2 hrs away. What are my options?

It seems to me that there is little point in trying to bring this to the attention of Apple. I have had this problem before, I fixed it by downgrading to 10.3.3 with an ipsw file. Now I upgraded back to ios 11.0.3 some time later (expecting some fixes to have been made) and the iphone is now restarting again every 2 minutes. Because my iPhone is old and out of warranty, and has a replacement screen on it, Apple refuse to believe that their ios upgrade is faulty .. or the cause on an iPhone which keeps randomly rebooting. Even during the setup process this keeps happening.

I spent 2 hours on the phone to Apple tech support as a result of the problems .... They will take you through all the usual resetting the software and everything else they can read off the crib-card. But actually, and despite any kind of reset or reload of the ios the handset keeps rebooting every 2 minutes. IT DIDN'T MISS A HEART-BEAT WHEN RUNNING IOS 10.3.3!!!!

As I sit here typing this my iPhone has rebooted several times ... and I haven't even touched it! Apple are quite literally washing their hands of this problem, and anyone who has had an iPhone working well previously, and now finds themselves with a paperweight, have no recourse of action. They say drop it into a service centre, get charged £200 to fix it and you can have it back working .... Apple bust it with a bad ios upgrade, and want to charge you nearly as much as a new phone to fix a problem which they caused in the first place!!!

As you can see, I am very angry about this and I think that I will now be going back to Android as they are by far more reliable.

P.S. I am a pofessional in the digital telecoms world ... this is not my first rodeo with digital communications technology!!!

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 6. The minute the IOS 11 update was installed, the phone randomly began restarting, texts do not come through, calls consistently drop etc. I have attempted Hard Reset, Reset All Settings, Erase All Content and Settings all to no avail. I contacted my carrier (Verizon) without help. This is definitely a software issue.

This is my husbands phone. My iPhone 5S has never given me a problem. I upgraded today to the X, but had my 5S for over 4 years....never a glitch. If anyone has an answer, I have two ears willing to listen.

Just in case it wasn't clear earlier here is the fix released today:

Update to iOS 11.2

Settings > General > Update

Official update from Apple:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch unexpectedly restarts - Apple Support

If you can't update:

December 2 "respring" Clock/Reminder restarting/overheating iPhone bug

If you still need help try updating your iOS device with iTunes on a Mac/PC by a USB/Lightning cable connection:

iTunes for Windows: Update the software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad

(This article is for Windows, but it's a similar procedure for Mac)

I have the same problem with the restarts, but it happens at all levels of battery charging. Doing hard restarts didn’t help. I did a factory reset, which helped stopped it from falling into a 5-20 minute restarting loop where the phone couldn’t boot. But now, after the factory restore, it just randomly restarts 3-6 times a day, but doesn’t circle he drain. This did NOT happen before the iOS 11 update and it is not tied with using any particular app.

It’s funny you mentioned being abroad with this happening because i am as well and at first I wondered if it was the Thai SIM card doing something weird in my phone, but it seems people at home are experiencing it too. I don’t have the issue regusrdig battery charge status though. Like everyone else in this threa I updated to IOS 11.3 recently but the restarting just began occurring the past few days. It first happened while playing a game and I thought it was jus the game. However, I went to the beach and wanted to listen to music on my Bluetooth speaker and it restarted 3 different times in the middle of playing my iTunes. I am assuming it is yet another bug in the new OS but I also wonder with mine occurring during the use of an online game or while paired to a Bluetooth speaker that maybe it has to do with some kind of strain on the processor that the new OS is telling the phone to reboot when it’s working too hard. I am using an iPhone 6s Plus.

My phone did this because of some unfortunate app interactions. Try this: Restore from an iCloud backup (look online to find out how to do this) then stop the backup after you have access to your phone but before the apps all redownload - you can easily stop the downloading by pausing each individual app or by turning WiFi off and by making sure the apps store cannot be accessed by cellular data. Use your phone for a couple of hours like this to make sure it fixed the problem. Then slowly add apps a few at a time. Eventually you will have the problem again and you have found the guilty app. Do the whole thing again and delete that app rather than letting the backup download it. Good luck.

Apple haven't done a thing to remedy my problem, they're just not interested in anything but selling new units. If its out of warranty then you may as well park it in a drawer and go buy an android based phone .... that's exactly what I did and I'm happy that I now have a reliable phone.

Sorry to hear about your phone though, its a real pain in the backside!

Apple date bug. Perhaps some of you are affected by the dec2nd date bug. Where your phone locks after a few seconds. You can check this by going straight to the clock and if its all greyed out or black then you need to Update to ios11.2. If it happened overnight dec1-2.

Others. Manually change date to dec1st.

Another fix go to General settings display and brightness and switch autolock to 5 mins. (This wont work if its the clock issue)

Jackie, thank you very much. It actually did something by itself and allowed it to finish the update. This "patient" has been stable for a while now. LOL I pray it stays that way because today is shopping and errands day, so being out there without a phone is quite an inconvenience. I am an older person not as tech oriented, so I am so happy (for now) that it fixed itself. Thank you for the prompt response. Have a great day!
