iphone 8 poor/sensitive mic during call

Just got a new iPhone 8 (updated to ios 11.0.2) upgraded from iPhone 6. When making a call if not talking directly into the mic the person on the other end cannot hear me (or my voice volume is drastically lower). This occurs when even slightly moving the phone away from my mouth or rotating the phone slightly up or down. My father has the same problem with his iPhone 8, even returned it and got a new one, same problem. Switching to speaker phone solves the problem. Also noting it does not happen all the time and a hard reset can fix it for a bit but then it goes back to the bad behavior.

Has anyone else experienced this?

EXACT same issue with my iPhone 8 Plus. It's not as though the mic CANNOT work, because when I switch to speaker phone, I can be a good distance away from the phone and people still hear me. But, when speaker phone is off, my mouth has to be RIGHT next to the speaker. Even the slightest tilt of the phone away from my face makes me unable to be heard, even when speaking loudly. Very frustrating!

Sorry, most of us would disagree with you. If you pay attention to this thread many of us have turned in our phones for new ones only to have this software/settings issue follow us.

If the problem is following you from phone to phone, that is a strong indicator that something you're putting on the phone may be the problem.

Cherefromfredericksburg, A new software update just became available. Wonder if it will help with any of these issues we are all experiencing. Guess what everyone??? I just got kicked off this forum for a whole month, yep a whole month for telling the truth and wanting answers. Since, oh, we spend over a $1,000 for this phone, wait, smart box that I can email from. Cant use it as a phone. So I wont use that term. This is my second ID....Hahahaha . I'll do the update and see what happens and hopefully they will let me back. But if they dont, no big deal. I'll miss all of your comments and I sure hope Apple wakes up and fixes what we need fixed. So we can use our phones as phones. I've like how simple Apple is use use, but....Hopefully we all get a Fix.

I have the iPhone 8 Plus 256gb silver/white $1,049 !! and I have the same issues. 1. Mic cuts out when I make regular calls. I have to sit still and hold phone perfectly still at certain position and yet the person I call keeps saying “what?? You’re cutting out again” 2. When I go to send a pic there is a long pause/wait in between steps to send, then put the contact in to send to. Long delays that worked in an instant on my 6 and 6 S. I know everyone suggests change settings, restart phone-use earplugs or speakerphone. Well that may work but I’d like a normal working phone for $1,049. I don’t want the world to hear my convo on speakerphone or have to pull out a wire earbuds set or start up Bluetooth wireless earbuds every time my phone rings That just makes no sense. I could be somewhat satisfied if Apple would announce they reali that there are these issues and be honest about it. Either say they messed up and we just have to live with it that they are working on an update fix or a mic replacement or recall or whatever. Something would be better than all of us complaining

Hopefully Apple will step up and do the right thing which is acknowledging a problem and promise they are working on a solution. KFC recently did this in England much to their advantage! Consumers respect honesty and integrity and will be more loyal if they experience that as a consumer. Due to a new delivery company there was a chicken shortage in UK KFC stores, customers arrived at restaurants and told sorry but none ffor you. The company placed full page ads explaining what went wrong, a simple apology and a promise that a solution was in the works. Guess what? They have had more praising and great publicity, consumer enthusiasm, respect and admiration. Now, there’s a microphone issue with new iPhones and a glitch that causes delays sending pics and a few other items. Apple, I’m letting you know in case you’re not aware. We all await your response, don’t be chicken- we don’t bite!

Thank you. We all have loved our Apple products and have paid premium prices for products and service that’s always been a step ahead. People are now being ignored and getting angry. Apple investing so much to move back to the USA is fantastic! I really love that! I want to be loyal, I’ve had great experiences since iPhone 3. Hopefully they’ll have a response at least soon, even if it’s a huge blunder with no simple fix in sight people will react better to the truth than to feel slighted and deceived.

The best new thing this iPhone 8 does is every morning it will not ring or give me text notifications until I call myself from my work landline. What the heck is that about?! This has only been happening for about 5 days. Again, I work as a Personal Assistant, it is NOT good to look down and realize I have missed 4 calls and 9 messages. UGH!!!!!!!! Have y'all done the update? I have not yet, I am terrified to do anything that might make things even worse. 🙂

I have the same problem and I’m going crazy. I have been back to the apple store twice and they say there is nothing wrong with the phone. Spent all yesterday on the phone with an apple technician trying to reset the phone and he could hear me after and thought the problem was resolved. Well it wasn’t. Very next phone call and the caller couldn’t hear me .

works perfect try in my car with blue tooth.

can anyone help?

You wont get any Help, Trust Me!!! Mine has been doing this for months. I even had the phone replaced and still more issues are happening. Apple doesnt care anymore! They sell the phone and leave us high and dry. I've tried all the suggestions in this forum and nothing has worked, i mean nothing. I power down my phone all the time and try new things suggested and nothing. Time to leave Apple after all these years of paying them. I have really liked the Apple simplicity of things and their interface but I cannot take this anymore. This phone was over a $1000.00 and I cannot even use it like the iphone 4 operated for me...Its nuts! Just admit there are issues and help us feel a little comfort that a fix is being worked on. Then they all admit , there is nothing wrong, yea right, we have 20 pages here of people experiencing the same issues. Can you imagine those who are having these issues that dont know about this forum here....I bet it would shock us how many there are out there.

Feb 27, 2018 8:54 AM in response to zookeeper146

Totally agree with you about how many are out there suffering in silence. I just found this forum last week, but have been yelling to myself daily about how terrible the iPhone 8 is and finally just googled my iPhone is a POS and this forum came up. Pathetic that nothing is being done except our comments being removed and people blocked from speaking the truth. I posted a link to this forum on my Facebook page in hopes of alerting others to join in the pressure to fix our phones.

Feb 27, 2018 9:01 AM in response to cherefromfredericksburg

Great idea. Yea, 20 pages worth....thats a lot. Not happy that Apple thinks, just replace the phone with another that is just as bad is a solution. I mean, do they have a crate full of these crap phones they are giving people who complain. I really wonder. Hopefully Apple will get the hint and fix our issues. Thanks for posting on Facebook. Maybe its an old school, physical letter we write to Apple HQ and send it and have this link written on the letter and say, go read whats going on. I'm thinking that is our only option at this point. I'm on my second iphone 8 plus and still having more and more issues arise with it. Its like they received a Bad Bad batch of phones or someone is sabotaging the orders. My wifes iphone 8 plus has Zero issues. she has the Gold/Pink one. Mine is the Space Gray. So i bet we all got a bad batch.

You are correct, switching to speaker or headset earbuds works fine. It is the iPhone 8 & 8 plus that have a defective microphone. Apple must not know about it otherwise they would want to correct their defective products before news of it spread on social media like wildfire. I don’t know how to communicate with them other than this site. Again only the regular phone is defective. If you don’t mind spending $1,000 on a semi working phone and you want the world to hear your convo you can use speakerphone. Or every time phone rings you could unravel the earbuds cord and get to chatting. I find it faster than connecting up Bluetooth wireless earbuds. ;)
