iphone 8 poor/sensitive mic during call

I have the same problem, I even swapped my phone for another one at apple and I'm getting the same complaints. its the worst phone I've had in years and wish I didn't upgrade from the 6S. Did apple come up with a solution for you?

I had my 8+ replaced too. Seemed better for a few weeks - at least I did not get any complaints from people who I was talking with, then same problem comes back, people telling me they cannot hear me. They tell me my voice is muffled, not clear, low volume, and the sound quality is intermittent, sometimes ok, but not great, then at other times it is bad. This from an Apple tech who experienced my phone's poor voice quality first hand. Interesting the problem is only when talking on handset. When talking on speaker, people tell me it's good. So go figure, in the old days, people hated the sound quality of speaker phone, now they prefer speaker phone to handset when they communicate with me on this 8+.

So sorry, no Apple solution here. Trouble is, even if I get an iPhone upgrade with any of the just released phones, these days with Apple one cannot trust it will be free from one problem or another. So, I'm going to Samsung, to get what ever is the upgrade to the S9+ when it comes out - or just pick up a S9+.

My daughter has same problem with her 8+. I hear the poor voice quality every time she calls me. She's on a different carrier.

I had the same problem and sendt my Iphone 8 to service, but the problem was still there. The I found out that the iPhone has I mic between the camera and the flash, If that is covered up when you speaks the the sound is terrible.

That is a problem if you have a wallet cover on your phone that you turn the front to the back of your phone when you speak

So do not cover up the mic on the back side of you phone during the conversation.

I just received my new iPhone 8. Exactly same problem. I have taken it back to store twice. They say they agree there’s an issue however since it passes apples sound test then if I send it back to be repaired I will be charged..... and no estimate of how much that might be. So disappointed after paying this much for my phone, I am tempted to go back to my iPhone 6

I have been experiencing a similar issue with my iPhone 7. I just tried turning off the noise cancellation and made a test call to a friend; he indicated it’s much better now. I have a lower voice which may very well be detected as background noise. To turn off noise cancellation go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Phone Noise Cancellation > toggle off. Hope this helps.

After two months of ”repair”-cycle, I finally got to return my X.

Apparently there was nothing wrong with the hardware because they couldn’t find anything wrong with the phone. Once I took the phone and set my appleid (from year 2008) the mic stopped working. So the PROMBLEM IS IN THE DATA, apple offered me that they would check my data too, but after two months I was ready to give up.

Now I’m trying to gather up enough patience to try out If the Xr accepts my old data. No problems with the same apple id using 4s or 6... so far my data has only f..ked up the X.

I have exactly the same problem with my iPhone 8.

Have spend hours troubleshooting and googling - nothing helps...

I am having the same issue. People are hardly hearing me when I speak to them on call.

I am also using iPhone8 Plus btw. Same issue with mic as you have. I think Apple doesn’t want to admit that new phones have mic failure.

Help us Apple! I get it, It’s embarrassing. Fix this!

I turned off phone noise cancellation in accessibility. Seems to have helped a lot as far as I can tell.

• Getting a new phone has not helped most of us.
• Fix this issue Apple! 😠

I have the same problem on my iPhone Xr, running iOS 11.1.2.

Tried everything, the only thing that solves the sound of my voice for the receiver is turning on the speaker.

This magically makes my voice sound normal and clear, even though I'm speaking through the SAME MIC.
