iOS11 notifications disappearing from lock screen

ALSO: My issue seems to be mostly when my phone has been turned off. Whatever messages are sent to me while it's off show up on the lock screen and then are gone the minute I unlock my phone. It doesn't seem to happen unless my phone has been off. I need to turn my phone off sometimes though and it's annoying that I can't rely on it to give me my messages when I turn it back on. If you're still looking for answers from Apple, THE BEST THING TO DO is to give them a call and report it. The more reports it gets the better chance it will get fixed. I asked if the employees saw these discussions and they said they don't so actually calling them is going to be the only way to get their attention. 😟

I don't exactly remember where I heard this from, but try updating your iPhone through iTunes instead of over the air next time you get an update

Go to settings, then notifications and messages then turn off show in history. I've tried everything and nothing worked for me

Has anyone tried updating to iOS 12? It breathed new life into my tired iPhone 6 and someone who was having this notification problem says it seems gone since he updated to iOS 12.

I'm having this problem too and it's really annoying. It doesn't have to do with the temporary vs. persistent for the banners. I'm surprised more people aren't having this issue. I rely on my lockscreen to tell me if I have a text message, if it doesn't show on the lockscreen, or in older notifications, then I don't think I have one. When I unlock the phone, the badge app icon will show unread text messages. As far as I can tell, this is only occurring with text messages, not mail, phone, etc.

Agree with posters above - I also had this issue in iOS 10 on my iphone SE. Thought upgrading to new OS and new iPhone would resolve it. Am extremely disappointed that even after a full factory reset this is still happening. Only solution so far has been to turn off "show in history", but as poster above notes, this is not a good "solution", it's a workaround.

I also noticed that the issue only seems to occur when "show in history" is turned on and the message contains content in the body, if I send myself an email with a subject and no content in the body the message does not disappear like the other notifications do for some reason.

Again - same for me. I sent a test to myself with “Test” in the body, and that stayed. email messages with more than a few lines disappear as soon as I unlock (but before I swipe up), and all other notifications remain.

I do not think that it may be a bad app or widget. I restored my iPhone using iTunes to see if one of my apps was causing this issue.

After restoring my phone and receiving a text message from Apple (I had 2fa enabled), the text message notification disappeared from the notification centre, 30 seconds after I received it. It seems to be a bug in iOS, at least for me

Agree that the "fix" here (turning off show in history, which does "fix" the issue for me as it does for others) defeats the purpose of the notification center. In iOS 10 I got to see my emails on the lock screen and in the notification center. Same with my iPhone 7 running up to iOS 11.1. This has only been an issue for me on my iPhone X.

That's not really relevant to this thread. The issue isn't how the notification centre works. It's that if we don't touch the screen at all - for example, overnight while sleeping - when you come back to the phone, the notifications have disappeared. They don't appear in the "earlier today" section - they don't appear at all. Badge notifications remain, it is only lock screen notifications which are affected.

Lock screen notifications should not dismiss until you dismiss them, even in the new notification centre. This bug makes them dismiss themselves.

THIS DOES NOT WORK. The only thing that works is to turn off "show in history" but like many others have said, this is a workaround, not a solution. This is clearly a bug that is affecting many users. I have had this issue on two separate iphone X's. PLEASE FIX THIS APPLE!

Not sure if it's the same thing, but every time my phone does an update I get old messages coming in as if they're new. With any luck your 4 "new" messages weren't really.

In addition to messages (both iMessage and not) disappearing off of the lock screen I've also had it happen to incoming calls. When that happens there's no way to answer the call on the phone even after unlocking (I haven't been able to try answering with a headset yet). I'm hoping turning off "show in history" helps, at least the messages issue.

Can you try to see if it only happens for some conversations? We're talking about the Messages app now, and nothing else?

You're problem seems to be different, because if I understand correctly you don't even receive the messages when turning it on after it has been off, i.e. it's not just the notifications that disappear? Can it be that you're phone is running out of space? Settings > General > About and look how much is ”Avaliable”.

I haven’t tried 1 but

2. I don’t have a scheduled DND and

3. My audio messages expire after 2 mins... that’s a weird one, keep me updated on if that makes a difference!

For now, I have continued to keep “show in history” off, and Bluetooth off, and I have not experienced the problem in several months.
