iOS11 notifications disappearing from lock screen

Hi,

I’m using an iPhone 8 running iOS 11.0.2 and I’m finding that text message notifications are disappearing from my lock screen. For example, I received a message at 4.45pm and it appears on my lock screen, however if I don’t open it and leave it to deal with later, it has disappeared from my lock screen (phone has not been unlocked since). It is also not showing in my notification centre. Has anyone else found this or does anyone know a fix for it?

Thanks

There are two types of notifications: Temporary and Persistent.

You can select which ones you want in Settings > Notifications.

If still an issue, perform a Restart.

Just adding to say I am also having this issue. I was hoping the update that just came thru would solve it - but it didn't. This is SUPER annoying and Apple has to do something. I always just check my lock screen for texts. If I don't see anything, I assume I don't have a text. I hate having to unlock my phone every time to check. Most of my notifications appear and then immediately disappear. Other will stay up for a while...but after an hour, they're gone. I will try to update my phone from iTunes tonight. And I've toggled off 'show in history' for now to see if that helps today. I hope more people comment on this thread so they can see this really is a problem.

It seems that what kills the lock screen are apps that don’t wish their data to be displayed on the lock screen even if they are switched on to do so. So this seems to be a lot of the financial apps but may be others. Find those apps, pull their widgets and shut down ALL of its notifications. And all means more than just the lock screen. It means giving it no right to notify. Just lock them all up until you find the culprit. This includes email apps, games, chat apps, vr apps, keyboard apps, etc.. (start with financial though)

As I have stated before in this thread, that does not appear to be the case here. I believe this is a genuine bug that I (and others in this thread) am experiencing. After a full reset of my phone, reinstalling NOT from backup - ie, a completely clean factory reset - with no apps installed other than default Apple apps, this was still happening with my imessages and the mail app.

These are the only two apps I personally have a problem with, and it does not appear related to anything else installed on my phone.

It appears to be a bug related to how imessages and mail store apps in the lock screen history. This is based on the fact that the only thing that has solved this problem is that turning off "show in history" "fixes" the issue.

Same thing here for an iPhone 8 Plus. Mine has something to do with the native mail app and the use of the phone and charging. As long as I don't use it as a phone, don't charge my device and don't check the native mail app, they will stay on the lock screen and history. As soon as I do either of these activities, they vanish. Only text notifications, nothing else. All other notifications, except i message, work fine. Have swapped phones, done a soft reset, done a hard reset, reset network settings and nothing works. Started day one when I got the new phone. I have been in direct contact with an Apple tech for about a month and a half. Sent all the logs as it was happening and they still can't figure it out. ios11 is by far the worst "upgrade" to ever be released.

I have been in touch with apple support about this over the phone - I have been told this is a known issue to the engineers and they’re working on a fix.

I was on with a senior advisor who I had to provide screen shots to and to answer questions. I HIGHLY recommend any and all of you contact apple support and relay the problem - if you get a good analyst they will find the note that says anyone with the problem is to be passed off to a senior advisor who will assist.

I was also given a link to upload screenshots to as I see the problem happen - which I have done.

Incredibly frustrating that this is a known issue and they’re not just taking back all phones that have it after paying this much - but I recommend all contact and report the problem and get as much info the the engineers as possible. And make them aware this is a big problem.

It does “fix it” for me, in a sense. If I haven’t touched the lock screen then all my notifications stay on there, which is good. However I generally like the “show in history” feature, without it the notification centre is basically useless. So I’d call it a work-a-round, not a fix.

It has stopped the issue from occurring for me though.

This problem is still going strong in iOS 11.2.1 on a freshly-installed iPhone SE. In my case, it only happens when the phone is being charged (thus far), around the same time it's popping up the charge level.

Symptoms (2):

- Messages app alerts on the lock screen disappear after a few minutes.

- Messages app alerts on the lock screen disappear immediately when power is plugged into the phone.

Fix:

- n/a

Workaround:

- Turn off History in Notifications -> Messages.

Rysz.

Persistent notifications does not fix the issue. Yes I’ve rebooted. Yes I’ve tried the resize from Standard to Zoom thing. Yes it fixes the problem temporarily. Yes I put in a ticket. Yes I’ve reinstalled/reset the phone to factory settings but it happens again. Yes I have the latest OS. Fine I have an iPhone 7 but this problem didn’t start in my 10 YEARS of owning an iPhone until iOS 11.

Engineers can unlock the phone with my face but can’t figure out this issue? Well I guess I‘ll passive-aggressively seethe because I’m NOT buying a %&$#?@!

Android.
