Fullscreen video turns pink and green in QuickTime/iTunes

After upgrading my Mac mini 2012 to High Sierra, when I play any video in fullscreen in QuickTime or iTunes, the video colors skew pink and green as if the blue channel is dropped entirely. It happens immediately after I take my hand off the mouse and let the onscreen controls disappear. As soon as I move the mouse again, or if I leave the mouse over the onscreen controls to keep them active, the colors return to normal.

If I use Screen Sharing on another Mac to connect to the Mac mini, the colors return to normal as if Screen Sharing keeps the screen active in the same way that moving the mouse does.

Changing ColorSync profiles does not help. Turning off hardware acceleration or running in safe mode might help, but there is no way to do that in recent versions of QuickTime.

It does not happen in VLC or any web browser.

This seems to be a common issue; see below for links to other questions that seem to describe the same symptoms. Hopefully we can consolidate and get more attention on this.

Same problem here. Used to happen only in iTunes (gave up on watching my iTunes movies a long time ago due to this). Now it happens on NETFLIX. On the browser. I don't know what else to do. Mac OS High Sierra, all updates applied.

I have 12.7.2 and still have the same pink and green problem. Everything is up to date. This is so annoying.

Kudos to everyone working their tales off to try and find a solution though. Too bad Apple isn't working as hard.

Same completely crappy color video, while looking TV in my iTunes (latest version) on Windows 7.

Apple should URGENTLY fix that:

we are paying for ongoing crap TV on PC and Mac screens at the moment, and that just means:

no value for the money!

When are they finally going to fix that nonsense, which happens exclusively in iTunes on my PC? And it did not do so a week or two ago.

I'm having this exact issue on my Mac Mini 2012. Changing monitor profiles or other settings does not help.

i've got the same problem.

mac mini (2012) display connected via HDMI.

On some movies of the store and some movies, i added manualy.

MacBook Air (2013) display connected via Native Mini DisplayPort output.

On all movies.

VLC is working fine !!!

Please correct the issue!

Same issue here. Used to be that apple had issues worked out before putting Out a new product. It’s sad that it’s takig this long to fix a problem of this magnitude!!!
