Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

I had the exact same problem with the Apple TV 4k (OS 11.1, most recent update)

TV: Hisense 55H9B2 4k curved tv

Cable: Apple-recommended Belkin Ultra HDMI cable

(plus about 6 other 18Gbps cables I bought from Monoprice for much less)

All YouTube 4k content played fine, and I could play 4k movies from iTunes with no problems. Netflix would allow me to browse the content, but when I played 4k videos I would hear sound and could see the UI elements but the video stream was a green screen. When I played regular 1080P content the screen was black, but I could hear sound and see UI.

The Apple TV 4k automatically chose 4k SDR, and would not switch to any other output resolutions. I called Netflix and Apple trying to troubleshoot, but neither could find a solution except to point out that it seems like an HDCP 2.2 issue and to try upgrading my cable. I tried 7 difference cables, including the recommended one from Belkin.

I finally found a post on Amazon for my TV which mentioned that my TV firmware needed an update. The TV's online firmware update feature returned nothing, but I knew mine was the oldest shipped for this TV. Thankfully, someone posted the most recent firmware file on Amazon. I updated via flash drive, and suddenly the Apple TV 4k asked to upgrade the display output to 4k 60Hz HDR. After I changed the output, Netflix started displaying all videos properly.

Check for a firmware update for your television.

For reference for anyone with the Hisense 55H9B2 TV, I upgraded from F1211 to H0117 in order to enable 4k 60Hz HDR (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R24J42DVDCE5FM/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_t tl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00ZGIJDOU).

I had similar problems that involved crashing, no video, only audio, sparkles, etc. However, I may have found a solution. I believe I encountered these problems when I switched directly from my Sony television's (XBR 900E) apps to the ATV 4K; that is, waking up the ATV while my television was on. Instead, I now use my ATV remote to simultaneously wake up the ATV and the television. There is a slight delay as the television switches to the enhanced HDMI 2 port, but then everything seems to work fine. When I'm finished viewing, I click on Sleep Now , which turns off both the ATV and the television.

I'm not an expert on these matters, but from researching the problem on the net, I think these issues may be related to the ATV's making a "handshake" with the television's HDMI port so that they can work in sync.

Like many of you, I've gone through switching settings, changing cables, rebooting, etc. I hope this helps.

I’m not sure if you are new to the forum, but many people have reported this problem to Apple. Also, by turning off the sleep function seemed to help, and as of the latest iOS 11.4.1 update it appears that the problem may have finally been resolved. I have set my auto sleep function back on as did another person and we have not had any more issues. Have you updated to the latest iOS and tried it? Have you tried turning off the auto sleep function just in case you haven’t updated the iOS?

Just wanted to let yo know that an Apple Engineer downloaded data from my Apple TV 4K to analyse and try to figure out the issue. I do not know if I will get back some feedback as I was told that if a fix was found, Netflix would be contacted...

I did some more tests and I am starting to wonder if there is some HDCP handshake issue between my Sony TV 4K and my Apple TV 4K. When I have the issue, I get the following error message when I try to watch an iTunes "extra" (no problem watching the actual movie - just the iTunes extra):

"This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection."

I also found out that when I turn everything on and I get a screen blackout that lasts a few seconds when the Apple TV screen comes up that I will be having problems with Netflix - no issue with the Apple TV when I don't get that blackout.

So maybe something happens to the HDCP connectivity - this is why protected content such as Netflix and Amazone Prime Video would not play correctly but YouTube would work without problems.

Had a similar issue. All was working fine until last night. Running 11.2.5 beta. Netflix started not playing movies (audio but no picture), then last night started to fail showing any picture when running the Netflix app. Just snow! Thought it was the cable. Tried an old AppleTV i have still and all good. Back to the 4K and snow. Left it till this morning, worked for a while, then wouldn't show a picture. Changed the resolution to 4K HDR @ 30Hz....all good. Still not happy though as all apps previously worked on 4K HDR 2 60Hz. Problem was Netflix app. Deleted and redownloaded. All working fine on 4K HDR @ 60 Hz.

Hey folks. Do you have the Apple TV connected directly to the TV or is it connected to a receiver?

My Apple TV 4th generation, stopped outputting video a few days ago. However, if its connected directly to my Pioneer 141FD it works fine. Also, if i connect it to the single V1.3 HDMI input in my Yamaha receiver, it works. However, if I connect it to any of the HDMI V2.2 inputs on the rear, it will not. Seems to be a HDMI handshaking error Issue.

I've done a restore of the AppleTV with no difference made.

I did a factory reset of my TV (Sony X800D) the other night and so far so good. We'll see how long that lasts though. I can't imagine a reset of the TV would make a difference. There was also a firmware update for the TV that I installed.

I have to say, the silence from Apple on this is beyond frustrating. A device this expensive should not have any issues streaming from the most basic and popular of services (Netflix, HBO, Amazon etc).
