Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

The only thing I can add to this conversation is that Netflix and the new TV 4K got along fine for a couple of weeks, we had no issues. Suddenly several days ago after no changes by us (though possible TV 4K update because it's set to auto-update) Netflix video disappeared. Still have audio and sub-titles, but the main picture is black.

As others are reporting, every other app source (YouTube, Crackle, TED, etc.) works fine. Our television is a Sony Bravia 1080p, not 4K.

This is also impacting the new Apple TV Prime Video app from Amazon - cannot watch any movies - no sound et no picture - the app seems to be stuck like it is trying to download something but cannot do due to poor connectivity. So the issue seems to really be with the Apple TV as that problem does not impact streaming from the ITunes Store.

Yes, they called me yesterday and no solution yet. They made me switch my Apple TV 4K to another TV that is not a 4K TV with a different HDMI cable. So far, no issues in that setup. The video resolution on the Apple TV 4K is set at 1060 SDR.

I also have an Apple TV 4th generation that I connected the my 4K TV - no issue there either. The video resolution on the Apple TV 4th generation is set at 1060 HDR.

So far, not really further along in finding a solution - in any case I am to try that setup for a couple of days - Apple will call me back tomorrow to see how my testing is going.

It hard to fault the Sony update at this time as some people have reported having the same problem with different TV brands - e.g. someone reported having the same problem with a Thorn TV - not sure if that TV is Android or not and if it is - did it get the same Android patch that the Sony TV got?...

So far, I have no issues with the Apple TV 4K on connected to another Sony TV - but that other TV is not 4K.

So maybe the problem only occurs with the Apple TV 4K being hooked up to a 4K TV.

The Apple tech is to call me back this afternoon - not sure if other tests will follow...

Just got off the phone with the Apple Advisor - As everything still works with Apple TV 4K on my non 4K TV he thinks that there could be problem with my 4K TV (Sony Bravia). He said that even if the problem only occurs with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video - and not with movies from the iTunes Store - it could be a TV problem as not all apps (including the iTunes Store) stream movies the same way. As there was a Sony firmware update in November, this could well be the case.

Next steps - I am reverting to my previous setup - i.e. Apple TV 4K on my Sony TV 4K. Video format set at 4K. If I still get those problems with Netflix and Amazone Prime, I will try with te Apple TV 4K video format set at 1060p - as that video format works fine with my non 4K TV.

He will call me back in two days to see how things are...

Thanks for the suggestion. I doubt it's a timing issue though, because I usually turn the TV on first and then the AppleTV. I haven't changed how I turn it on but the issue still happens. I appreciate all of the research and effort everyone is putting in. If only Apple spent as much time trying to identify the issue as we all are.

As I mentioned, I am back to my Apple TV 4K with my Sony 4K TV - and the problem is still there. Interesting tidbit - Before I rebooted the Apple TV 4K to reset it I tried to change the video format from 4K HDR to 1060 HDR and the Apple TV would not let me telling that my system was not compatitle. However, once I restarted the Apple TV 4K I was able to set it to 1060 HDR - so whatever that bug is, it is messing around with the Apple TV video format recognition.

So my Apple TV 4K is currently set at 1060 HDR - I am trying to find out if this problem is related to 4K resolution or not...

For me it is the same.

I have also a Sony 4K TV with latest Android TV version and Apple TV 4K (TV OS 11.2).

Before I reboot the Apple TV I am not abel to change resulution from 4K hdr to 1080p sdr (error: my system is not compatible). I restarted Sony TV (pressing the green power button on remote for more then 5 seconds) but without any changes in behavior of Apple TV.

Only restart of Apple TV made it.

Yes - and still pretty hard to say what is to blame - the TV or the Apple TV. As I said before, the Sony 4K TV works fine with an Apple TV 4th generation - and the Apple TV 4K works fine with my other Sony TV (not 4K). So the problem only occurs when Sony TV 4K is hooked up to the Apple TV 4K.

My thinking is that the only way to know what is causing the problem is to either revert the Sony TV to the previous firmware (i.e. before the one that came out in November) - or revert the Apple TV 4K to TVOS 11.0. Not sure if a factory reset of the Sony TV will revert back to the older firmware ...
