Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

The only thing I can add to this conversation is that Netflix and the new TV 4K got along fine for a couple of weeks, we had no issues. Suddenly several days ago after no changes by us (though possible TV 4K update because it's set to auto-update) Netflix video disappeared. Still have audio and sub-titles, but the main picture is black.

As others are reporting, every other app source (YouTube, Crackle, TED, etc.) works fine. Our television is a Sony Bravia 1080p, not 4K.

Tried a factory reset of the Sony TV 4K but that did not fix the problem. As there is no way to go to a previous firmware version (that I am aware of) with either the TV or the Apple TV 4K it is still hard to say what is responsible for the problem. In any case, my much is that the problem is with the Apple TV 4K:

- The Sony 4K TV works fine with Netflix and Amazone Prime Video (APV) when it is hooked up to an Apple TV 4th generation.

- The problem impacts 3rd party apps (e.g. Netflix and APV and not streaming from the iTunes Store - why is the TV not impacting all movie streaming?

- To fix the problem, I have to restart the Apple TV 4K - not the Sony TV 4K.

I was just talking to an Apple Advisor and he will be escalating the issue to an engineer. He will call me back on Monday. In the meantime he said that it was fine to try out the latest beta - tvOS 11.2.5. He also said that with the Apple 4K you cannot go back to a previous tvOS version.

BTW, apart fromNetflix/Amazon this issue is not impacting YouTube and some other third-party apps that I have.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem.

I'm running an Apple TV 4K through my Sony XBR75900E and am having the same issues. I first noticed it with the Directv Now app. The app would load and the sound/ closed captions would work but no video would come though. Does the same with netflix.

I've been trying to pin down exactly when this problem pops up. Seems like mine happens after I wake the apple tv from sleep mode and the tv is turned on. I also though it could be a sequencing issue but I don't know. Reset fixes the problem every time but It's a little inconvenient.

Yesterday I had a meeting with Apple genius bar. They opened the Apple TV 4K and made a „complete“ reset of firmware (comparable to loading a complete new firmware on Apple TV 4 by using an usb cable and iTunes).

Now I am on 10.2.1 but the issue is not solved. Tomorrow I will get another Apple TV 4k from a friend to test it, but unfortunately it is not on OS 11.0 😟 For me I want to try if it’s a hardware problem or not.

I will inform you if I have news...

I have the non-4K Apple TV and all is not good. Netflix sort of works but stutters - I gave up on that and just use the Samsung's built-in app. But iTunes content is hit or miss. Some content plays, some content will not play at all.

I never had this issue with my Sony TV. I replaced the TV and the problem started. I know it's just one data point, but if the same source and cable work with another TV, this seems like Samsung's problem to fix.

I have a Philips 65pus7601 4k tv and have no problems with the build in netflix app.

Also no issues using my sony ubp-x800 uhd player and starting the same movie in netflix from the build in netflix app of the sony.

Playing the same movie via netflix on the apple tv 4k with the same hdmi cable and port gives a horrible picture with lots of color banding and worse colors overall.

So for me its clear that something goes wrong in te apple tv with the hdr or dolby vision signal of netflix.

Now my promised update:

Since saturday I am trying another Apple TV4k (from a friend of mine) with following software versions:

Apple TV4k: 11.2.1

Netflix: 1.15.1 (from 11 Dec. 2017)

All other setup was not changed. Same HDMI cable, same TV software (Sony Bravia 4k, Android TV 7.0, latest software - Europe Version from November 2017). The only thing I did was disabling WiFi from TV because I had problems by playing music via AirPlay.

Results: All problems are solved. Netflix shows video directly (no rebooting necessary). Switching framerate and contrast between different files works very smooth.

For me it seems that there could be a problem with the hardware (Apple TV4k) Tomorrow I will call Apple hotline to ask for changing my Apple TV into a new one...

One more thing: Netflix also shows „Dolby Vision“ for some shows again. But — for example Stranger Things 2 — Netflix shows on my iPad „Dolby Vision“, on Apple TV only „Ultra HD 4K“ without Dolby Vision. I do not know why...
