Bluetooth not working High Sierra

Hi there,

Updated my OS a while ago (2 weeks?) and my Bluetooth isn't working ever since. Turned it on and off a few times, didn't work. So I decided to reset the Bluetooth module, that didn't work either. Neither did removing all connected devices.

The problem is that my Bluetooth keep searching for devices, but can't find any.

Any ideas on how to fix this? People with similar problems?

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS High Sierra (10.13)

I'm having 2 issues with bluetooth since updating to High Sierra.

1) Similar to you I have connection issues and in the bluetooth section of system preferences the option to delete the device is unavailable. Restarting the OS brings back the option to delete the device in system preferences and then a re-pair get's me back up and running. Having to do this at irregular intervals. No idea what triggers the connection issue.

2) The balance for music is off when using headphones with iTunes. I have bluetooth headphones that can also be connected with an analog aux-in. With the aux-in the headphones work perfectly. When I use the bluetooth function to stream the music the left earphone is far louder than the right. What the heck.

after upgrading my 2015 MacBook pro to High Sierra, bluetooth stopped working... Error message I was getting is "no bluetooth hardware available". After consulting with online communities, I fixed this problem by restarting MacBook SMC. Following are the steps: 1. shutdown your mac. 2. press and hold left Shift+control+option together with power button for 10 seconds. Release all the buttons at once. 3. Start mac as usual with power button.

After performing this procedure, bluetooth started functioning again. Bluetooth icon in the taskbar became active and bluetooth radio detected other bluetooth devices.

When I do that my bluetooth speaker option does not appear. However the BT works fine for my track pad, mouse & keyboard but not my headphones. ? Before i upgraded to High Sierra it was fine. Had to revert to a plug in pair of cans. Wish Apple would look into this and issue a patch. I had a similar problem picking up my personal network when i upgraded to Yosemety. They denied it and blamed WD, the supplier of MY Cloud DHard drive. Eventually when enough people complained they did accept it was them and issued a patch. Seems like they don't do things in a hurry.

This has been a 2 month misery for me. Apple acts like they've NEVER HEARD of this when I talk to the 10+ reps, 3 senior advisors whom NEVER get back to me, taking it to the Apple store and having two hardware pieces replaced in which they got my phone number wrong in the system then gave me a ton of wrong information sending me into panic. We've done E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G and I can't get anymore help. I'm so frustrated and just want Apple to patch their error. Although they tell me they haven't heard of ANYONE ELSE with this issue (obviously there are tons of you HERE on THEIR forums). This happened around Thanksgiving when they put out High Sierra OS which is OBVIOUS at this point there IS SOMETHING in this OS that is not agreeing w/our bluetooth software. Unfortunately we aren't Apple techs so it's not something we should be here trying to figure out. I'm very disappointed and frustrated with Apple's lack of support on this issue for MONTHS now.

I have the same question! I have only experience this problem since the most recent update to OS10.13.3. I have restarted the Macbook Pro, turned bluetooth off and on, and removed the device (Bose speaker) twice and still can't get it to connect. The last time I removed the device, the computer can't even find it! Come on Apple! Help us out!!!

I have been issued a fourth Senior Advisor. I've also been told these are the highest tier of Apple Care you'll ever get to. So when the other three haven't called me back there's no one to really complain to about them. Nice. Anyhow this advisor seems to be at least helping me a little more. We discussed how people don't really call in and go through as many steps as I have so that's why they might not be as aware of it. I've spent HOURS on the phone w/them. We're at a point that the engineers are reviewing my files from my computer during the times of occurrence. I had a wild string of events that happened with the BT this morning and luckily captured all of the times and said advisor was screen sharing and saw things happening. I'll have a little more info (hopefully) sometime next week. This has been a long, exhausting experience and I don't blame anyone for not wanting to go through it. I'm beat!

At the genius bar, they couldn't replicate the issue we are all having. So I asked them to revert my computer to the last version of Sierra, and guess what? No more BT issues. Everything is working as it should. I hope they correct this on High Sierra so I don't have to keep dismissing the update notifications I am getting.

Hope this helps you guys too.

After coming to the realization that there is NO CURRENT FIX for the bluetooth glitch that now seems clear is connected to the High Sierra update - I have reverted my computer to the previous operating update to get rid of High Sierra - I had to do this by restoring from Time Machine, which means that I loose some things, but since I couldn't use my practically new computer dropping bluetooth mouse and keyboard every hour, this is preferable. Hope APPLE finally acknowledges what is so clearly a IOS High Sierra problem and puts a patch out. I will watch for that.

Ever since updating in October/November, I've been having intermittent issues with the bluetooth with my early 2015 macbook pro 13". My apple wireless keyboard and trackpad now have to be connected via two lightening cables to a usb hub connected to my laptop to ensure a connection that is connected 100% of the time. I've done all the recommended resets, deleting pfiles, and refreshing pram again it will work for bit but the problem always re-appears.

More details:

Laptop goes to sleep and sometimes when I wake up the computer the keyboard will sometimes work, if it does, it can stop working after logging in or during a session.

And it continues ...

After sending to the engineers the engineers have come back with the following. I am to completely erase my machine, reinstall OS as a new machine ... AGAIN! However they don't believe me that we've done this because somehow they can't find the notes. IF it continues THEN they want to send it BACK to the Apple Store for MORE hardware testing. I ask them why they don't come onto you know THEIR forums here and see how many of us are having the SAME issues. I'm so tired of spending COUNTLESS hours on the phone and the back and forth. Like it's so exhausting I just want my machine to work as intended. If I tell them no then I'm not following their recommendations I am so at a loss. 😟

After scouring these boards, I can tell you that the only solution that works is to get rid of High Sierra operating system and go back to Sierra. Instructions easily found on line for restoring from Time Machine back up. I did and it finally resolved. Hoping at some point they will come up with a patch for this bluetooth glitch only happening for those with High Sierra - that is when they acknowledge it exists. Good luck.

They trying really hard to get rid of our "vintage" MBP's

My wife and I both have the same as you - MBP mid 2011 17"

Best MBP with a big screen, they will forever keep sending bugs to our machines via updates to try to get us to stop using ours and buy new ones.

We also experience constant fan noise and I have also had to replace the graphics card twice.

Seriously.....annoying AF
