Music keeps pausing / skipping since updating to iOS11

Ever since I updated to iOS11 (specifically, I'm on 11.0.3 right now) on my iPhone7, my use of Spotify has been completely messed up. The music will just randomly pause or skip to some random place in the song. Sometimes it works fine, and sometimes it will do this so frequently that it's unusable. There seems to be some correlation with movement. For example, it happens a lot when I first stick my phone in my pocket. Sometimes instead of just pausing it will cause Apple Music to start playing. (When this especially annoying feature kicks in, I can usually get rid of it by rebooting.) Often, none of my earbud controls will work, or if they do, the pause button will cause Apple Music to start playing. This is almost certainly an iOS11 issue rather than a Spotify issue because not only did the problem start exactly when I updated, but I noticed that the problem affects apps other than Spotify (though Spotify is the app I used the most by far). Please fix this, because I'm at my wits end. I'm highly tempted to just nuke the phone completely and start fresh.

I also have this problem. As RealVictor said it correlates to getting a notification. I mostly see it happen whenever I get a Snapchat notification, but saying that I have noticed that the music pauses before I get the notification. Please Fix!

This is totally insane, I am in the middle of washing the car, my iPhone was plugged into external audio speak via headphones and kept pausing now no songs play. I switched to blue tooth headphones, worked for 30 secs then paused again and the headphone blue tooth dropped for no reason.

If they don’t provide a fix I am switching to Samsung with my entire family, thus is a basic function and no upgrades should cause this. They should test properly on all devices instead of just pushing out half baked updates.

I am so angry right now.

Hey all..

I suffered this issue for some months. I found a resolution for the slow or intermittent response by the Music App to headphone or screen > Play and >> Fwd commands. YMMV. I am on an iPhone 5S with only local music content.

I unsynced all playslists and discovered there was still a lot of music left over in the iTunes device browser. Much of this was greyed out and had a circle beside it. Other tracks were duplicates of these. These half downloaded tracks might be the source of our problem.

I explicitly unsycned the entire Music library... then updated the phone and waited for these songs to be removed. I then made a local encrypted backup of my now musicless phone. I then restored the phone with this backup. I then re-added specific playlists. To my amazement the Music App now responds near instantly to commands to play local content.

Hopefully this is of some use to you all.

iPhone SE 64 iOS: I dont give a ****. This is happening since I bought it (so it means since iOS 10) and I think Im a little bit worse and in more deeper **** than all of you, because not only music pauses at random times anytime the phone wants but also any media playing. This includes any video/audio from you name it: facebook app, youtube app, random safari browsing. **** is ****** up so much I even quit watching videos on my new iPhone. My 4 year old iPod touch with iOS 8.4 does a better job for me.

As mentioned in my earlier discussion, my music kept skipping, stopping or starting. It was as if my iPhone X had a mind of its phone. I went to Setting / Display & Brightness and turned of Raise to Wake and it did get better. But last night, my music died completely. I could no longer listen to my music through my Beats headset. I went home and changed the headphone adapter that goes into the headphone jack and now my music works perfectly. No more skipping, stopping and starting by itself. I knew that the adapter is so fragile. So I bought 3 of these. Particularly if you go to the gym, the cord may get caught somewhere and the adapter gets pulled and get damaged. I suggest making sure that the adapter is still functioning.

I’ve had the same problem. Since I updated to ios11, the playback of my music from Apple Music and Spotify has been terrible. It randomly pauses, skips and restarts songs, and it is not my earphones as it does it out of the phone speakers when there are no headphones plugged in. Hope that Apple get this problem sorted ASAP

Yes I am facing the same issue as well In my iPhone 8 Plus . The music stops or skips . Sometimes suddenly goes to voice control especially using dongle . It’s really annoying . Surprised to see it happens even on iPhone 7 below versions since I thought it happens only with lightning headphones and dongle . Still no update or reply from Apple frustrates me

I’ve already replied on this thread with the same problem like everyone else here. However in my case i al more and more starting to believe that the earpods i received with my iphone x are malfunctioning at the remote buttons and that it isn’t a IOS 11 bug.

I now use my older earpods of my iphone 6s with the lightning cable to headphone jack switch. Now i haven’t found any problem at all with skipping, volume randomly changing, pausing, ... i can also easily skip my songs and change volume etc. without any problems.

Not true. It could be an interaction with other hardware or an app. Either way, the only common factor is the OS.

Just looking at this thread there are multiple iPhone models, mixtures of headphone types (EarPods, lightning connected and not, Bluetooth speakers, etc.), and various apps having the issue. What’s common? iOS 11.

On that note, I appear to have fixed my issues. I reset my device and reinstalled everything on it. I then replaced the headphones I was using. This combo seems to have reset the connections so it does look as though this is an interest ion between the iOS and the headphones. Unfortunately I can’t be more specific since my headphones were not defective in anyway.

I shall use an alternative set of wired Apple EarPods (3.5mm headphone plug version) and go via the 3.5mm to Lightning adapter and monitor the issue from there.

My device now disconnects itself from Bluetooth, too. I believe this is also related to the pause/skipping/end call problem.

This problem occurs so regularly that I had given up using headphones of any kind, with my iPhone 7 Plus, which is very disappointing.

To update the case, the problem occurs when using Apple Earbuds with 3.5mm headphone plug into Lightning adapter, with my iPhone 7 Plus, in conjunction with:

Spotify - music playback; pauses, skips

Apple Music - music playback; pauses, skips

Phone - telephone calls; ends calls

Podcasts - playback of podcasts; pauses, skips, activates Siri/Voice Control

Messenger - voice calls; ends calls

iOS - general use while headphones are connected; randomly activates Siri/Voice Control

My device is becoming more problematic and therefore more useless as the days go by. Please Apple, arrange for an engineer to take an hour out of their day to simply acknowledge this problem, then go from there.

I tend to only have my FitBit and only one pair of cans assigned to my phones at any one time. It's probably why I have never encountered any major issues with both my iPhones. Both of them run 11.2.6.

Headphones can be a crapshoot. I usually use a pair of SkullCandy Crusher Wireless (on Bluetooth) and have never had an issue with them.

If I were to test the Lightning-3.5, I'd definitely be using my Sony MDR-7506's.

I know you can't be more specific, it's fine.
