I had a problem with extremely low volume on my Iphone 6 - SOLVED!.

Other functions like, speaker, bluetooth were OK.

The solution was a big surprise to myself - since I was sure it was SW or a setting somewhere.

I carefully cleaned the little slot in the glas in the frontside of the phone where the sound comes out in normal use. I used a little piece of cotton with a little water/soap for dishwashing - do not soak it in water - did this app 5 times. I then used alcohol - did this app 5 times.

I almost cannot believe the change it did ;o) I had to adjust the volume down again.

So in my case it wasn't SW or settings - but simply dirt (not visible to me) that had to be mechanically remowed.

I bought the IPhone 6s about 2 years ago and after the iOS11.2.6 update I'm having the same issue with the volume during calls. The volume is very low when making or receiving calls, increasing the volume button doesn't help.

With every update there seems to be an issue. Updates prior to this messed up SIRI ( siri usually makes a sound indicating that it was listening and i could talk asking it to dial a number. The sound was missing with the earlier update and while driving I had to look at the screen to see if it was listening and it was to dangerous, its so pathetic) that issue is sorted out in the recent updates but the latest update messed up the volume during calls.

Volume is limited & too low now. All volume limiters are off. When I connect to my Chevy Traverse MyLink infotainment system, the volume goes up and down at random. It is barely audible, so I blast it a when it turns up it startles me. Connecting to AirPods & headphones do not go up and down but are limited. I tried shutting it off, restarting running the battery till dead and no change. Again, limiters are off. I thought the MyLink may make it worse so we tried my sons’ phone and a friend both of which were not updated and the volume is awesome like mine used to be. I’m still making payments on my iPhone and will not be upgrading anytime soon... Apple needs to update and fix this problem.

No, I did not have them repair it. I can not believe the poor quality product I have purchased with my last two iphones. Apple is no longer the superior product we depended on for quality. When the quality started to fall, you could count on the service in the past, but not anymore. The people in the store were trying to be helpful, but Apple is not producing a product that lasts anymore, and they are not supporting it unless you buy Applecare on top of the outrageous price of the phone.

I have an iphone x that is only a few months old. Volume was working fine until the latest update a few days ago. I have done all of the normal troubleshooting and last thing I will try is factory reset/restore. It’s ridiculous that we should have to do this though. Apple really needs to make sure these issues are resolved before putting out an update. They are losing customers because of it.

Hi Kevin,I still have your last post which was deleted by the moderators saved in my email inbox. If you can give me your email address,I can email it back to you. These guys at Apple are up to some mischief they will not admit the flaws and will delete posts which clearly indicates that there are problems with the software update.

Hi Rajib, no need, I have the article saved and the link to the web post. Look, I agree entirely, something is rotten in the state of Denmark as Marcellus notes in Hamlet. I too have done everything including a complete reset and restore to no avail. I have the noise cancelling option turned off, there is nothing else I can do. If anyone has an idea of how to fix this then please let us know. Obviously upgrading my 6s to a 7 is a BAD idea since 7s are some of the worst affected. And while you are at it, have a look at the posts WRT GPS errors, I think iOS 11.xx is just a mess, QC has failed miserably at Apple.

Thanks Kevin could you please send me a link to the posts.I live in Kolkata India & the Apple service centers are not exactly customer friendly here.I remember one of my friends had taken his 6S for a battery replacement after it was found out that Apple was throtteling performance of iPhones with old batteries & hehad to face a lot of harrasment over there. After rescheduled the appointment several times he finally got the battery replaced.

Hi Rajib, These are (some of) the posts WRT GPS issues with iOS 11.xx:

iPhone 6 GPS stop working upgrading to IOS 11 (including 11.2.1)

GPS not working after update to IOS11

GPS not working properly after upgrade to iOS 11

GPS Totally Stuffed since iOS 11

This one details issues with different iPhones up to the iPhone X and using Apple Maps:

apple maps not working after ios 11 update?

I have the GPS problem which started somewhere in the iOS 11 update cycle and persists today. It is a 128Gb iPhone 6. I had similar problems on a 64Gb iPhone 6s, but they (mostly) went away after 11.3 (occasionally I get the GPS tracking about 10m to the right and behind where I am with a round blob instead of the triangle in Waze, but, and since this isn't Apple software, I am sure I will be told to use Apple Maps. I believe there are other posts, the first one runs to 9 Pages and is current, the others one or two pages. The bottom line is that since iOS 11.xx there have been GPS problems. The big issue is that it is not EVERY iPhone or it is not any one model of iPhone. It seems random, but I am sure the is a common cause. And, worryingly, nothing from Apple, they just ignore these sorts of issues and hope they go away.
