iPhone call volume low

I had a problem with extremely low volume on my Iphone 6 - SOLVED!.
Other functions like, speaker, bluetooth were OK.
The solution was a big surprise to myself - since I was sure it was SW or a setting somewhere.
I carefully cleaned the little slot in the glas in the frontside of the phone where the sound comes out in normal use. I used a little piece of cotton with a little water/soap for dishwashing - do not soak it in water - did this app 5 times. I then used alcohol - did this app 5 times.
I almost cannot believe the change it did ;o) I had to adjust the volume down again.
So in my case it wasn't SW or settings - but simply dirt (not visible to me) that had to be mechanically remowed.

I am still facing this issue on my iPhone 7 128GB. I am using iOS 11.3.1.
The volume on the call is low, My iPhone's earpiece works perfect, as I checked by playing a song, and in the
Accessibility, I selected right speaker which is earpiece, you can see it in the "Accessibility >> Adjust the audio volume balance between left and right speakers".
Hello Apple, this is something with iOS requesting you to please hear us.
I have the same problem...and I thought when I update to iOS 11.4 the problem will be solved ...but nothing changed ...and this problem embarrassing me so much when I talk on the phone ...so please apple inc. find a solution.
And so do I and, as you can see from the 100s of posts in this and in other threads/forums, no-one has a fix. Apple are not even acknowledging there is a problem. I can confirm is started with iOS 11.xx and is NOT FIXED by iOS 11.4. It doesn't add any value to ask if there's a fix, if there was it would be posted here. It does add value tp post that you are experiencing the problem.
Yes there are those that chirp in and say ...mine was fixed by cleaning the earpiece outlet. Sure, some have phones with dirt and crap in the earpiece. 99% of people have tried that before they start ******** about the lack of volume (it's not useful to post ...I cleaned my phone and it works... that's just a waste of bandwidth).
The real issue is that the volume setting when set to maximum during a phone call is insufficiently loud to actually hear the conversation. Plug in an headset and/or set to use the bottom speaker and the volume is fine. This is happening on many, many iPhones from the iPhone 6 to the iPhone X if I am reading the threads correctly. All of these iPhones cannot have suddenly experienced some sort of hardware failure.
And the problem is that when you take your phone in to talk with a 'genius' you are told your phone is broken and out of warranty, buy a new phone. Someone actually did that and has the exact same problem with their 'new' phone.
Yeah bro...I thought at first that the problem comes when I updated the software to iOS 11.3.1 so I waited until iOS 11.4, but there’s no difference with the volume at all....I thought apple is aware of this problem ....but it’s obvious they are not aware with it....and I did a lot of things to solve this but not touching the inner hardware.....I think we should keep posting problems until they figure it out....when I first buy my iPhone X the call volume was amazing...you can hear very well through the earpiece...and when I set the volume to the max at first the voice was clear from almost 20 inches away from the earpiece.
Hi everyone - I took my phone to a MacStore and they did a “cleaning” outside where the sound comes out to my ears...! The “cleaning” made wonders and the issue was fixed!
All you need is a lil brush to clean your phone and remove possible dust that could be blocking the sounds coming out.
Will cost you nothing to give it a try!
Cheers 👍
Like many others who have posted on this forum,I have tried that even used compressed air didn’t work .This is an issue with the iOS 11 upgrade. So many phones have been affected.I hope that iOS 12 will fix this issue.
My Iphone ear volume has tremendously reduced even after following all the steps and increasing the ear volume to Max from the buttons.I think I have got this problem just a few days ago.And As suggested, the updates to 11.x.x is the culprit.Whereas a friend of mine who Hasn’t updated has such a loud volume on just a level of 2-3 bars. Can you pls help immediately as I get a lot of calls and it’s difficult to listen or to talk from a wire.
Just got me iPhone 6S today June 15,2018 and the preinstalled iOS is 10.3.2 and WOW! The ear speaker is so freaking LOUD at 75% volume!!! Compared to my iPhone 6 with iOS 11 which has a very low earpiece volume when set to 100% volume setting. I thought I was going deaf recently and now I realise it's iOS 11 !!!! It's definitely iOS 11 bug and I will not be updating iOS on this new phone - staying on iOS 10 forever or until the volume software bug is fixed!
No it does not. It is in the US constitution. You can sue Apple for that in federal court if you have lot of money. What Apple is doing is allowing you to go back in "time" to that day you bought the phone when you were so excited that you bought free drinks to every one at the bar it is called resetting. You can reset the phone and enjoy the high volume.
Even if Apple allowed you to downgrade the firmware to iOS 10,it might not solve the problem as the upgrade to iOS 11xxx could have caused a permanent damage to the earpiece.Apple is keeping quiet about this and I know they are keeping a close on this discussion. If they admit to this flaw in the iOS 11 firmware then they will have to replace or repair thousands of iPhones affected by this problem.A few months ago they had admitted that they were throttling performance of iPhones with older batteries and had to replace batteries at a discounted price. What Apple doesn’t realise is that thousands of people in the world are reading these comments and they will think twice before buying the next iPhone. It is not doing their reputation any good.
well fingers crossed mine has been ok after a clean up
if it was an IOS issue cleaning it wouldn't work?
i haven't done anything different apart from clean that ear piece
i didn't expect it to work but something done the trick
instead of getting someone to call me i just made
a recording and played it back and that was it back to normal
its so frustrating when companies stay quiet about it
why not bring out a new IOS and give us what we ask for
we pay £700 plus for a device that might not work?
just playing into the hands of the paranoid androids : )
Hi,
I had the same problem with low volume in ear speaker on a iPhone 7. Have tried almost everything in this thread including replacement of ear speaker itself without any success. Then I accidentally broke my screen. After replacing the screen the ear speaker volume is normal again. Strange but true. I did the replacement by my self and I did only replace the screen including digitizer. Anyone who has any clue why it did start working after the repair?
Hi guys, have you tried to upgrade to iOS 12beta2? If so, did upgrade solve this problem? I have this again after upgrading from 11.3.3(which fixed it for me) to 11.3.4(problem came back) and 11.4(problem still exists).
Thank you
Before you buy another one or even switch to that "other" phone, try this simple hack that worked for me and I want to share this little known secret that I want to share this. Why this hack works I do not know but it works I swear that will work for you. Switch to Speaker mode once you get the call or for that matter if you gonna make a call after you dial the number or may be before even dial the number. But be careful you may go deaf if you have the volume really high if you have not adjusted the volume in the settings to not to higher than 80 %. Good luck share this hack with your friends for free. Remember how you got this.
Hey
Well after reading many things in here i experiences the same thing. Done all
Of the updates, resets, toothbrush.
Went to Apple store, the used a special type of earpiece brush. And BINGO!!! They actually said in the store not to use a toothbrush.
