Try setting up Text Replacement for the letter "i"
Here’s what you can do to work around the issue until it’s fixed by a future software update:

I had the same problem and i updated to the latest update and it didnt work but i figure out that turning off your auto correct in your keyboard settings under general will fix the problem
After I updated my cell it started doing the same thing.
This issue started on Halloween before doing the 11.1 update. Completed the 11.1 update this morning hoping it might fix the issue but no luck.
Go to settings then general and keyboard and turn off your auto correct see if that works that worked for me
I just had that problem..turn off autocorrect and it should work just fine
Settings>General>Keyboard> Turn off Auto-Correction

Turning off autocorrect works BUT I need autocorrect. APPLE NEEDS TO FIX. i havent uodated either. Look at these spelling errors! Ugh

Me too. It started on Friday night. I did the update and it didn’t do anything to help. It’s so frustrating!!

This only works for me in messages and emails. Nowhere else. Even typing this. I < example.
I did this. It only works in messaging. My emails have symbols and even what I am typing NOW has symbols. I use my phone for work and this is embarrassing! I HAVE DONE ALL SUGGESTIONS.
It started a day or two ago. Upgraded to the new IOS because i thought it would fix the problem, but it did not.
Can’t type the letter I️ , showing up weird. A little box or the letter A and a question mark inside of a box.
