Autocorrect changing the letter “I” to symbols

For some reason, autocorrect keeps changing the letter “I” to some sort of code, as is visible in the screenshot attached. I’ve reset my phone repeatedly and restored the autocorrect dictionary to factory, yet the issue persists.

It appears that Apple has recognized the problem, and has provided this temporary fix in this support document. If you type the letter “i” and it autocorrects to an “A” with a symbol - Apple Support Watch for a permanent fix in a later update.

I had the same issue, and fixed it in this way too, by creating a shortcut from “I” to “I”. Autocorrect is still trying to catch it where it can. I have been having wild keyboard issues all evening: random words get capitalized or several letters will appear when I thoe One (that was typing “type one”), it’s like the keyboard sensitivity and location is off as well. Note, I’m not using the new “one hand typing” feature in iOS 11.

The autocorrect from I to the unreadable symbol seems to be a bug affecting lots of iPhones.
