Autocorrect changing the letter “I” to symbols

For some reason, autocorrect keeps changing the letter “I” to some sort of code, as is visible in the screenshot attached. I’ve reset my phone repeatedly and restored the autocorrect dictionary to factory, yet the issue persists.

It appears that Apple has recognized the problem, and has provided this temporary fix in this support document. If you type the letter “i” and it autocorrects to an “A” with a symbol - Apple Support Watch for a permanent fix in a later update.

I know that "Apple" doesn't listen. Here or anywhere, it often seems. I have spent a significant amount of time working with Apple on many, many similar issues, hardware and software, getting to the development group and even the top person in customer satisfaction on occasion. I've also posted feedback many, many times, often with very reproducible issues. I've dealt with many very knowledgeable and helpful advisors.

Yes, these are negative comments about Apple, because there are increasing, persistent serious problems. I think it is clear that it is venting some of my frustration. Clearly I don't have much expectation of change. And that makes me, an old Apple II guy, very sad.

iOS 11.1.1 did NOT solve this issue! My phone recently starting replacing I with "A" followed by some weird character (three bars stacked vertically). In fact, when this problem started, I already have iOS 11.1.1. I went to settings and reset keyboard dictionary, restarted my iPhone and it worked normally for the very first "I" typed; then on the second "I" it just came back! How can I get rid of this!!??!? A little more info - last week my husband sent me a Facebook message, which I checked via Safari on my Mac since I don't have the FB app installed on my iPhone and the message was filled with all the weird symbols. A few days later, that's when my iPhone started showing the same erroneous replacement of "I" with A and symbol from my husband's FB message. Oddly enough, my Mac has not been affected, only my iPhone (?) and no matter what I do, I can't get rid of it -- HELP! I'm installing iOS 11.1.2 now - I HOPE THIS FIXES IT! I'll post back to let you know.

Thanks Tom. I read in a few other posts that Mac's had been affected. So I think the absolute statement "No Mac has ever..." seems incorrect.

On a more positive note, iOS 11.1.2 finished installing. I tested iMessages and Email and am so very pleased to report the keyboard predictions work as expected - meaning, "I" was *not* being replaced with A and symbol in my very brief testing. YaY!! Hopefully, it will remain this way :-)

In all of the posts about Mac's that I have seen, the users were referring to messages they received and not to messages they themselves typed. If you find one where the Mac user themselves typed "I" and got bad results, let me know.
