How can I clear ram/cache thingy on iPhone X or can I?

It was done by holding down the power button until the swipe to power off prompt appears, and then pressing the home button.

Used it for plenty of things, can’t I do this on iPhone X now lol?

Anyone know how to do this on the iPhone X?

Thanks in advance

After giving up, since I can’t find anyone on the internet who knows the answer to : how to clear ram on iphone x (like on 7 or 6) ?, I finally found/figure out the answer.

The key is:

1) the “slide to power off” screen

2) and the home button

Steps:

1) go to the “slide to power off” screen by:

Settings app -> General -> scroll down and click “Shut Down”

2) then click and hold down the “Home” button.

Yes, I know. There is No PHYSICAL/mechanical home button on the iphone x. But it is still there.

So where is the “Home” button? Just in case you forgot, it is available through:

Settings app -> General -> Accessibility -> AssistiveTouch -> Enable AssistiveTouch -> Customize Top Level Menu... -> Make sure “Home” is set to one of the icons -> and there you have it.

I can finally clear the ram again just as I do before.

The reason for doing it, is a totally different topic.

That method was an old geek's tale, it actually did not clear out RAM. You can clear out RAM by doing a Forced Restart which was outlined above but there is rarely a need to do so unless something has gone wrong with the operations of the iPhone.

Thanks deggie, that was my understanding when I first answered. Sometimes folklore somehow finds its way to become fact in some circles.

I also use to do this and in fact it does work. If you download one of the ram apps you will see a difference in ram usage and it clears up the phone to run faster. It was always in my weekly clear out process.

I can indeed verify this is correct. Download a ram app verify your before usage then follow these steps;

Go to settings. General. Accessibility. Assistive touch. Turn on.

Then

Use back buttons to main settings screen. Scroll down to shut down. Once you see the slide bar to turn off phone click the additive touch button and hold home button. Your screen will flash and your ram has been reset.

Open any app and press the inch long black bar on the bottom of the screen then drag it up about a third of the way up the screen and then to the right. That app plus all the other open apps will show up. Press and hold any open app and a small circle with a minus sign will appear in the upper left corner of the open app window. Tap the minus sign and the app will close. You can keep closing open apps until they are all closed.

You must add the home button to your iPhone X first. Go to settings, general, accessibility, then assistive AssistiveTouch and turn that on. Then go back the settings/general and scroll to the bottom, press shutdown. Then press and hold the home button added to clear ram just like older iPhones. The screen should look like you’ve taken a screenshot almost and go back to general. Hope this helps.

I know this is an old post but I know what you're looking for. To clear all of the apps in the background.

How this is done on the X is on the home screen swipe up from the bottom but stop halfway while keeping your finger on the screen. All of the used apps will show. Now, unlike the iPhone 6, 7 once the apps show you can't just swipe them away. If you try to swipe the home screen will just show up again. Instead of swiping on the app to close it long press it. This will bring an X on the corner of the apps to close each one separately.

First you have to add the accessive touch feature to act as the home button. (Settings/ general/ accessibility’s/ accessive touch/ on). Once you have the accessive touch on, you quickly press the volume up, volume down, then hold on the power button. After the “slide to turn off” appears, you click on the accessive touch, then hold the home button at the bottom of the accessive touch. Your welcome :)

I sincerely doubt it’s an “old geek’s tale.” If you try it, you’ll notice that after you’ve done it the vast majority of open apps have to reload whatever content that had. Whereas when one simply switches from one after the other, that doesn’t happen (unless the app isn’t well designed for multitasking, or if an inordinately long time has passed that whatever test was being performed timed out). So, the above aside, clearly something had to have happened for apps to have to reload.
