I’m having the same issue, as do a bunch of other people here:

Thank you. My issue is on the lock screen with an iPhone X. Native mail app messages disappear as soon as Face ID authenticates me while still on the lock screen rather than show the preview. I understand that I can swipe from center to reveal previous notifications but they shouldn’t be dismissed to begin with. Just want to understand if this is a bug and whether it’s happening to others.
Just swipe down from the left side of the screen and all your notifications will appear.
Yeah, I know the drill 😉
And it’s not 100% reproducible. I just sent myself 3 emails from another device and the previews worked as they should. But at other times the messages just disappeared.
Interesting, definitely a bug if it is inconsistent, please report it (link above).
Done. Thank you.
Finally! I found a place where someone described the same problem I've been having. Very annoying. Hope they have a fix soon!
Having the same issue, but it seems to only affect my exchange account, Gmail/IMAP is not affected.
This happens with my Exchange email but not my iCloud email.
For me it is EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Yeah this makes no sense to me. Why on earth would I want my mail notifications cleared when Face ID kicks on?
Have you read the fix I linked to above. It works fine.
Thats not really a solution. Now I’m forced to check all my emails before I swipe up to unlock.
Agree. It's a bug. Turning off "Show in history" is a workaround that causes other unintended consequences...
The solution is easy, delete your Exchange then add it again. I did this and the problem is solved for me.
