iPhone X with Apple Leather Folio Mic Issues

and the microphone on the iphone X which causes the problem (if the findings in this thread are right), is at the top.

On the other hand, some reported that deactivating the noise cancelling function of this microphone in “settings” does not help either.

It would be interesting to know if it solves the problem to punch a hole in the front cover where it will cover the camera with the microphone when folded back.

Thinking the issue was linked to noise cancellation I turned this feature off in settings. It made no difference at all I still had issues with call quality. I do however think the issue is linked to the iPhone case style ie wallet case with magnetic clasp closure. That and when the front of the case is folded to the rear when talking. So I think the rear mic is the source of the issue.

Have you tried the compass with the Strada case? I returned the Strada case because the strong magnet affected the compass. Not possible to find North with “compass” and with “maps”.

Have you tried turning off Noise Cancellation in the Accessibility options under General?

I really like the Apple folio case so I hate to give it up. It works ok when I insert my index finger between the flap and the back of the phone b

Apple store gave me credit for the Folio cover without issue. They did seem a bit disinterested in understanding the actual issue however.

I have been using ”TUCCH” cases since iP5 - very good, now exact same problem as described when case is folded over- as with every phone call! A significant bummer as these leather folio cases are quite handy! Seems only fix is another type of case.

I am having a similar issue. I have now switched back to my silicone case. Too bad, because I really liked the folio case. I am pretty sure Apple is not willing to admit to a problem and will not refund my $100.00. What a waste. It will be interesting to see how long this goes on before they admit there really is a problem.

I am having the same problem but I am using a folio case from Nomad love my phone! love my case! but it sounds like any of the foldable cases are going to be a problem. It has been very frustrating to be told by everyone that you are talking to on your new iPhone X that I sound like I am muffled or in a box.

Have the same problem change cover and The problems simes to disepear

but they are till there tried witout cover and its almost gone.

just wondering: You have no issues with the Strada case although it also has a lid/cover?

I have this case and experienced the same muffled voice issues when I make phone calls (and the lid covers the back of the phone).

I also turned off noise reduction in the settings which didn‘t help either. Only if I don‘t fold the lid on the back of my phone while making calls (meaning not covering the microphone) voice quality seems to be ok. But it‘s annoying to hold the case like that.

My wife just found out she has the same problem due to your thred. Thanks so much for bringing this to everyones attention. Apple needs to address as their is no solution other than replacing the cover with another model. Sad when you pay $100 just for the cover and $1,000 for a phone.

I already have the Otterbox Strada, and have complained as callers are claiming that my speech is muffled

when folding back the cover. So I am interested to know why you are satisfied with yours as I am very dissatisfied with mine.

Also have the same issue with my new X.

Took it back to apple and they even replaced the phone but said nothing about the Folio case being the issue.

So many phone calls where the other end complained about my audio. Will start to experiment with new cases that don't cover the back side when opened.
