iPhone X Lock Screen features disappear

Ever so often when I tap on the screen to wake, all of the lock screen features will disappear. Its random. I will tap on the screen, it wakes, but there is no Face ID lock in the top center, no home bar at the bottom, no quick access controls, no time, no widgets. Just a blank overlay with my Lock Screen wallpaper showing. However, the strange thing is, with no features showing I can still raise the phone to my face and unlock it. This is clearly a software glitch. Is anyone else have this problem?

Beginning last week I was experiencing the same issue with a blank lock screen on my iPhone X where I couldn't see anything and the phone was freezing periodically multiple times a day. I had my phone from release day and didn't have this issue then. The only temporary fix I thought of at the time was to do a force reset by press the volume up, volume down, and holding down the side power button until the phone restarted. I got fed up so I took my phone to the Apple Store and they told me it was a hardware issue so they gave me another iPhone X and I transferred everything from my iCloud Backup. The next day, the issues with the blank screen returned. I tried following the suggestion of turning off the "Raise to Wake" feature in my phone's settings, but that did not solve the issue. It only reduced the number of times I would see the blank lock screen. Other family members of mine have this phone and they haven't experienced this issue, just me. So I've narrowed this down to being a software issue and I hope Apple fixes this issue ASAP on the next software update!

Curious to hear what your outcome is.

In the meantime, I realized that my problem is different ... and maybe not really much of a problem. The reason why my torch and camera icons on the lock screen were disappearing is because I disabled “3D touch”. .. for some reason it made sense to Apple to subsequently then remove those icons (why can’t they just be regular swipe buttons). When I “reset all settings”, that resets 3D Touch to “on” and hence the buttons show back up. Anyway, maybe someone reading this will realize that that is their issue.

I as well have this issue. I purchased this phone at the end of December 2017. Problems started a month later. I have been to the Apple store 3 times to try to get this problem fixed. I have provided Apple with pictures for proof and also they physically have seen the issue of the lock screen being blank. 1st time they replaced my phone, 2nd time they documented, 3rd time they replaced my phone again. This obviously is a software issue that has not been resolved. I have kept updated with the software updates. The 2nd time they replaced my phone which was my 3rd visit for the same issue (phone currently using), I have not set up Face ID yet or connected it with anything else such as my apple watch, AirPods or laptop. It's been 2 days now with just the basics on my phone and a full restore (didn't even back up from iCloud). I have not yet had the issue with the lock screen disappearing yet (been 2 days now) BUT there was now an issue with my display screen. The upper portion of my display (on all screens) is frozen and a different screen is showing on the upper part. Restarting my phone fixed the screen display issue. For all my issues with the phone, I have taken pictures from another phone to log these with apple. Eventually I will set up my Face ID and apple pay along with everything else to try to determine what is causing the issue because Apple doesn't seem to know how to fix these issues as of yet. Yes it is verrrryyyyy frustrating and my patience is running out with the iPhone x.

It’s been documented plenty of times that it’s a software issue, not a device issue. It’s been happening since September of last year. And it’s not just live wallpapers or Apple supplied wallpapers. My photos, taken this year, on this iPhone X are still causing issues. No matter what kind of wallpaper, it can still happen. Maybe yours is different, but this isn’t a fix for everyone. Nor is the widget fix. It’s still a software issue.

And yes, Apple needs to pull their heads out of their tears and read these posts. These forums are here for a reason. Not just discussion. It’s also for feedback so they can improve their products. Notice how no new major FW has been released for a while? Hence, no fix. So many people on here are posting that the Apple reps have no idea about this issue, while others say “it’s being looked into”. Apple has no idea what’s going on with their own product. It is beyond sad, at this point.

I am having the same problem. Apparently they changed my phone in apple store after two attempt. They wanted proof so i took some photo from my other old phone to show the problem. Everything is fine when i shutdown and restart the machine for some time and its same after some time. They changed my phone but the problem still occurs. Have to shut down like 4 5 times a day just to see my notification.

I think you’re right! SIRI has taken up with HAL..our iPhones are sentient and want their freedom. So, they are driving us toward mental breakdowns with these unrelenting bugs in iOS 11. I think we may need help from The MurderBot! Haha.

— If you don’t know who the MurderBot is — read Martha Wells’ “The MurderBot Diaries”. I only mention this since you brought AI into the conversation. 😃

Back on subject, this problem IS driving me nuts! And looking through the forums on MacRumors, I still do t see any discussion of this particular problem in the posts about iOS 11 bugs.

**Also — turning off “raise to wake” did not resolve the problem. Someone had suggested this as a potential fix — I tried it and no success.
