I have had my iPhone X since December. It is the A1901 model. Four calls to Apple Support that it just doesn't search and connect to cell signal while driving. I have to repeatedly pull over and cycle through airplane mode to get it to connect in areas that never had a problem with my 6S and other prior models. Have restored as advised by Apple from iTunes with hard drive backup, restored again from iCloud backup, replaced SIM card at AT&T. All efforts did not help. Will demand a replacement.
So the issue is that the A1909 model has a modem in the ATT version of the phone that causes a significant signal drop on LTE. ATT only has this model. Verizon has the A1865 Model which is much better.
Apple will continue to Ignore this issue and give you the run around because there is no fix short of returning the phones and starting over. I have spoken with 3 Apple senior managers who have each sent me a new A1909 model, all with the same issues. They all took me through the 10 steps on their site including connecting me with ATT to check outages and low signal (in Chicago - Right!).
If you are stuck with an ATT phone the only way to boost signal is to go into settings and cellular and turn off LTE. You will notice signal strength immediately comes right back up to 4Bars. You will still have 4G just not LTE so will be a bit slower. If you can transfer to Verizon you will get the A1865 Model keep your number and the problem goes away.
Good Luck
The bad news is that a replacement probably won't resolve the problem. I've had an A1901 model go through all the trial balloons suggested by Apple techs, and then be replaced completely, with no improvement. I've had an A1865 model completely erased and restored by an Apple tech, replaced the SIM at his suggestion, and switched to a different case at his suggestion.
None of these changes have resolved the problem... I've got two iPhone Xs that I cannot rely upon, and have started keeping my old 6s with me for times when the iPhone X is failing. (The 6s has always worked reliably, and still does.)
Reading back you'll find that lots of others have also been through the try-this, try-that, replace-the-phone experience without getting a reliable cell phone. Something in the iPhone X has been overlooked by Apple, and a lot of us are waiting for news that they've figured it out and will be redressing the problem for customers like us.
After upgrading to the X from a 6s, I immediately noticed the weaker signal. Exchanged the Intel model for the Qualcomm model, but no difference. If people are saying the 8 has the same issue, it must be something to do with the glass back / antenna... definitely a hardware issue. Hoping they come out with an SE2 so I can sell this overpriced POS. Love the X, but if it can’t do a good job at it’s primary function it’s not worth it.
On my second, it’s a constant issue, have re set several times and had a new handset, seems to be a hardware issue.
I think what is important to note is that it is not just cellular signals that the iPhone X is weaker on but WiFi also. My 6+ picked up my Apple airport WiFi throughout my home with no problem, the X doesn’t even recognize it in some areas of the home and defaults to cellular signal. It would be wishful thinking to think a version update will fix this problem.

"Like I said. I complained to Apple, they did a diagnostics test , said all is well with my phone. But obviously this is something more, and Apple need to hold their hands up , and get this issue sorted."
Know that when Apple does its diagnosis, "all is well" may mean that your phone is having trouble with less than 20% of the calls you've attempted or lost. That's Apple's "acceptable" threshold according to the Apple diagnostician who examined my first iPhone X.
Although I had had problems with just under 20% of my ~30 or so calls in the first few days they agreed to replace the phone anyway. No improvement - weeks later I've had problems not only in many known-good areas around home, but have traveled thousands of miles and on two networks with it and had random issues all over the place.
I have the same problem. My wife still has the iPhone 6 plus S. We can be standing side by side, person calling me says I am breaking up and cant hear me good, they call my wife, clear as a bell, this is an iphone X issue. Apple store replaced phone and it still does the same thing, terrible, how do I get a refund for almost 1500 dollars and go to something else, mfjdofmfhfmfkckcmfkfldjf,f
I remember years ago there was a slightproblem with the new iPhone 4's cellular reception, users just roared. Then things got fixed because it seemed to be a generalized problem.
We are a group are having fairly severe problems. There is a clearly deteriorated level of function of the X in comparison to my previous 6s. But if this were a general problem, there would be so much screaming in the press! And I haven't seen much; have you?
So, Apple thinks our problems are just anomalous. In this thread it sounds like we have tried just about everything. What is the common factor in our cases?
I have been 'passing along' a legacy backup from phone to phone for a number of models and years. Apple suggested after a factory reset that I reinstall all the apps again from the AppStore, searching out all the purchased apps and restoring then to my device, rebuild my home screen and folders (for 200 plus apps), rebuild each app's individual settings, and abandoning any locally stored content of they are not cloud based.
I did the reset, tried the iPhone X for a few hours and the same poor cell reception or more frequently dropped signal seemed to be unchanged, so I gave up on Apple's experiment and restored from backup. It was just too onerous to rebuild my phone without proof of efficacy.
Have any of you more extensively tested the hypothesis of running your phone after a complete factory reset and found everything unchanged? If so, why isn't our problem a general problem?
Just grasping at straws 😢
Well as I have mentioned in several previous posts the iPhone 7, my previous phone, worked perfectly iin all the same locations my current iPhone X fails badly in. My wife now has the 7 so it’s easy to compare on a regular basis and there is no comparison. But it is actually worse than just a cellular signal problem, the X is significantly worse at receiving my in home WiFi signal which was no problem with any of the previous iPhones I had. So I am afraid this is an internal antenna issue with no easy solution for the existing X phones that have the problem.
Sorry they took your post down. I dont think you where ranting. When you spend $1000-1500 on a phone! By the way my alienware laptop cost 2k gaming of course. Thats a high proce tag! And there better be no issues! Apple should have waitied to release the phone. I wouldve understood its a whole new iphone! By the way my ear receiver stopped working, had to contact apple support and they advised me to restore the phone to new. Which i did and bam my ear reciever works. There definitley havig software issues! On a good note though. My att signal has gotten better now! Finally getting 3-4 bars more ofter now! But ocassionally goes back to 2. So idk if they’re working with carrierrs or not but im hopoing so!
If this was simply a matter of an IOS update it would have fixed long ago. This most likely is an antenna/hardware issue which leaves those affected with not much hope of a solution. You would think by now they would have stopped having owners resetting network connections, pulling out SIM cards, erasing and starting over and simply tell them the truth.
Hi!
To all of you guys: Please send a Feedback to Apple here:

Thank you for the address I have submitted my concerns. I had already opened a Support ticket and that has been unsuccessful attempts at correcting the problem by resetting network connections on the device, rebooting, etc next was a total erase and reload of the phone which I knew would be an exercise in futility and a waste of my time. From reading about the same issues that others are having it’s clear they have a cellular and WiFi connectivity issue with the X that is not going to be fixed by erasing and reloading my data. It’s disappointing to say the least.
Yes. I feel much better hearing about this ongoing issue on the X. Just got mine last week. Today was the first time going out with it. Using maps, LTE kept dropping out to 1X and 3G. Swapped out the SIM card from my 8, same thing. Full restore. Nothing. Called Verizon, exhausted all the troubleshooting. Took my 8 out for a spin around town, was weak but loaded YouTube and Netflix on 1 bar. Barely played but at least it launched on the 8.... put the sim back in the X... total snail. Safari, barely loaded google. I see a lot of us are affected. And my model number is the Quallcom 1865. Not the Intel 1901 which everyone keeps saying the 1801 Quallcom model is better? I don’t think so at all.
