When cold flash not working IPhone 8+

Does anyone has the Same problem ? When it’s cold outside my iPhone 8+ Flash isn’t working. Even when it’s dark no flash when taking a picture. As soon as I’m inside my house and the phone gets warmer the flash works again. The flashlight is working normal.

I have an iPhone x with 11.2 and still have the flash issue. A work around is to turn the flash on and off a couple of times then access the camera app though the control panel and the flash works for a while in the camera. Really does look like a software issue as the flashlight works 100% of the time it would just be nice for apple to admit it and work on a fix. Looks poor when an iPhone 7 works better then the iPhone X

Sorry for delay. Just getting in. I did check on the situation.

So, it appears the software engineers are definitely aware. This is all that was released to me and the tech, as per protocol. But, they do have it listed as a known issue & are continually intaking feedback from all sources

-Currently, the advice offered to customers experiencing the issue is that any of the iPhone's should be within the stated, acceptable operating temperatures:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201678

- Users have reported that a quick fix and temporary one is to force restart the device to get it going again, and yep, may have to do this as often as needed

-Not all users are experiencing the issue. That part was definitively stated

- One thing that I had no idea about was this issue occurred with the iPhone 6 & 7 models also, in the past and has obviously since been corrected

- No release on a sw update, but that's normal as Apple doesn't release this info to anyone unless it's public first

- As for exchanging, you may well experience same issue . Thus, it's definitely a personal decision

- If I were to exchange and lived in weather not conducive to the device, I would select another model.

That's just my perspective however

- Did talk with someone at work today who I found out has an iPhone 8. His exhibits this behavior at times. He uses the force restart method currently

- Safe to venture it's software related, if I based it on the above info along with other data

Think that's it...a bit wiped after a 13 hr day so I may have forgotten something, but if anything new comes my way, I'll pass forward

***Please note this as advice and info only from a user not via Apple. I make no claim this info is tied directly to Apple nor would speak on their behalf

This is simply my research based on reaching out, researching & networking as a user trying to help offer other insight only to help, as I know this can be upsetting and disconcerting especially with nothing in print as of yet.

Take care everyone ~

Me too! I use iPhone 8.

And I was teached temporary effective solution on Twitter. It is to turn on the light 🔦 by control center. If I turned on the light for 30 seconds by control center, Flash worked again!

Incidentally, In the case of 20 seconds, Flash worked again. But Flash didn't become to worked soon. Only a few photos.

I wouldn't even go that far to say that the hardware is faulty, because at the same time the flash doesn't work for taking photos or in other apps, it still does work if you activate the flashlight function from control center.

Since swapping out the hardware didn't fix the problem, it's either a hardware problem that affects all phones or a huge batch, or it's not a hardware problem but faulty OS software or camera module software driver.

Hi there,

I have. It appears the 11.1.2 update addressed the issue on the iPhone X and no calls regarding issues with it for really cold temps for those who updated. However, rep stated they are noticing issues with the 8 now instead and feels another update should be out soon.

She submitted feedback as a user and as a tech, and asked that I submit feedback as well.

I submitted mine and am having friends and family submit on behalf of iPhone 8 users as well :)

I got far in my case and got thobbed of in the end after 3 iPhone 8 pluses later a bout 3 weeks of phone calls to apple and online chats and other people to be rang back and told their is nothing they can do about the flash it doesn’t work in cold weather to protect the battery apparently , and the flashlight works then why? The guy couldn’t explain so basically made up an excuse in the end to get rid of me so yes I bought a phone for the camera but guess what guys if your planning on buying an iPhone 8 Plus for the portrait camera mode like me ... don’t bother unless you live somewhere like Florida !!!! Worse camera I’ve ever had due to this!

So weird, I really hope they’ll fix it soon!

Anyway, hoping that it’s a software issue and they’ll fix it soon, here’s a tick to take pics when when it’s too cold outside and the flash doesn’t work: scroll up to the control panel, turn on the Flashlight setting it to the max level of brightness, get back to the Camera App and... the magic happens!

Could be connected to Apples battery statement

Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.

Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.

I have an iPhone 8+ 256gb, I thought I was the only one, I contacted Apple with their customer support app but they said it was an isolated issue and that my flash was probably exposed to some vapor resulting the vapor to freeze in cold environment and causing a problem with the camer-flash connection they said I needed to take my iPhone to a service center.

We need to let Apple know of this issue, everyone that has this issue send Apple a link to this thread to let them know that a lot of people are having this issue.

I talked to Verizon, who I bought the phone from technically, and they transferred me to Apple. They are actually are aware of the problem they told me and opened a case, and they believe they can repair this problem with a software update eventually when they figure it out. I would recommend everyone who has this problem contact Apple directly about this as I think the more people that complain, the more quickly it’ll be fixed.

Hy everybody! I speak with Apple support UK. They Tell me this is a hardware problem. Must bring back the iPhone to Apple.

The distributor (great Mobile service) tell me the problem is the change device is also leak!!!!! (???) its a problematic seies and many devices is the world (X,8) is wrong. Perhaps the manufacturer should do a recall??? Interesting! A

s long as the manufacturer does not respond to this error, everyone should tell the problem to the manufacturer its very important!!!!!!!!!
