Every now and then, my phone isn't waking up when I press the side button. If I wait a few seconds and press again, Apple Pay pops up, so the first press was recognised.
Is anyone else having this issue or should I see what Apple say? I've rebooted, though not tried a full factory reset yet.

I had the same issue, its actually Apple Pay that is causing the issue. I tried a restore and it didn't help. Turn off double click side button in the wallet app and you'll notice right away that the phone is a lot faster when you click the side button. Lemme know if that helps. It worked for me and I haven't had that issue since, and I know what you mean man that issue was really annoying
You're welcome, there shouldn't be any delay. Apple Support can determine what may be causing this.
If you are in the Beta program you do not report your problem to apple support you use the Feedback tool you received when you joined the program.
It’s definitely not a hardware issue since it wakes up on the second press and shows Apple Pay, indicating that the first press was detected. Also, wake on press is disabled.
I was having this issue as well, although it seems to be fixed with iOS 11.2
I have noticed, however, (since the fix) that I still occasionally cannot wake the phone when I press the side button. I have to press it a second time.
I have the exact same issue and it’s hard to see it as anything other than a bug. My guess is because the phone comes configured with Raise to Wake enabled, this case didn’t get tested much. Hopefully they fix it soon because it’s quite annoying.
I have the same issue and been reading all over....so some iPhone users don't have this issue and some do. BTW...it actually has nothing to do with Apple Pay or tap to wake....I've tried with both on or off....same issue. And it only does it sometimes....not even sure how to duplicate it as wanted....it just happens. Wish someone had a solution....seems like ppl had to exchange their phones but some reported that even replacements had the same issue.
Can you tap the screen and wake it up? If not then you probably have a hardware issue, get it attended to.
Even tapping twice on the screen did not wake up the iphone x provided the function is on in the setting. Hope that its a software issue.
Well, I'll probably jinx it now, but since upgrading to iOS 12 public beta 3 I haven't seemed to have this issue. Maybe it's finally fixed!
Thanks. The button is obviously working though, as a second push a few seconds later starts Apple Pay, so it knows about the first push. The problem is the first push isn't waking the screen as it does most of the time.
Though you would use the side button to put the iPhone X to sleep, it is not a method that is used to awaken the iPhone X.

Thanks. I did. I got the default response of force restart, reset settings, then a full wipe, so I'm trying it in order as I don't really want to do a full wipe.
Was just wondering if anyone else had experienced it really, or if it's just me.
I expect most people have tap to wake enabled so wouldn't notice this, but I found it annoying when I was carrying my phone, it would wake due to being gripped, and I'd accidentally press something, usually the controls for my podcast app.
I'm holding it wrong, I guess! 😀

No, but music and podcast controls would be on the screen, and sometimes it would skip forward or stop, for example, due to me holding it.
