Since upgrading to High Sierra, Apple Mail will not connect to gmail. When I type my password I get a message, "Unable to verify account name or password". If I go to gmail on the web using Safari I can get right onto the account so the log in info is fine.

I have this problem too.
I can sign in to the app store. I can get an apple ID verification code (multiple times) but there is no place to type it.
Two choices only:
1. Username and password
2. I forgot
no place for verification code.
and i did not forget my username and password.
It worked! I can now access my mail in Thunderbird.
