Apple TV 4K Random HDMI Signal Loss

Anyone have a similar issue they have solved? I originally had the issue of flicker that was solved on my LG C7 by changing motion to User set at 0, but an issue I am having is the signal from my ATV to the TV drops out randomly. Usually I can make it through a show, but a movie it will drop at least once. Audio seams to reset here and there too, but it comes right back with the little Dolby Vision logo on the TV flashing. To get the picture back I have to put the ATV to sleep and then turn it back on. If it wasn’t for the free 4K iTunes upgrades I think I would just be done with this thing. I have tried brand new cables too by the way.

**SOLUTION FOUND**

Hopefully this will work for everyone. I bought this HDMI 2.1 cable off Amazon ( Amazon.com: ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable - 4k Compatible With Gold Plated Connections For the Best Picture - Sup… )

ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable - 4k Compatible With Gold Plated Connections For the Best Picture - Supports HD, 4k, and Ethernet Signals With 120fps Refresh & 48gbps Bandwidth.

It has worked with no issues and I'm no longer experience any signal loss. Doing my research I found that HDMI 2.0b can't handle 4k TV's with 120hz native refresh along with Dolby Vision; too much bandwidth. Any HDMI 2.1 cable should work but if you are buying off Amazon, PLEASE read the reviews and descriptions first. There are some companies claiming their cable is HDMI 2.1 compatible and it isn't. The Echogear has worked for me with no problems for over a week. I'm running an LG 65" 8500 series TV with Dolby Vision.

would not be surprised if it was the software, but also would not be surprised if it was the 2.0 cable not being able to continually handle the 4k dolby vision at 60hz single either. Hard to say. Some people report that they are using the belkin cable that apple says to get, and they still have problems. So who knows. But it is annoying and something that apple obviously needs to address. I got off the phone with a "apple TV4k specialist" today and he says, its probably the cable. And if that is true its total BS because there are hardly ANY 2.1 HDMI cables on the market right now. ive soured the Internet and have found only 2, TWO!! thats it! the overpriced Belkin one that the apple rep told me to get and Echogear..... so who knows what the problem is. But I think its safe to say its an ATV4K and or cable issue and not our TV sets. Very frustrating. Apple has not had a good year.

I have the same setup also except I have a B7.... But it seems to be 100% an ATV4K issue. I was running the last generation Apple TV on this setup for months without any issue. First week I get the Apple TV 4K I get these "no dingle" drop outs, and have to unplug or restart the **** thing to get it back. Mild announces to be sure, but it still should not be happening. And it looks like its not just relegated to LG OLED's as others have complained about this issue with other brands.

I called the so Called" geniuses" over at apple and the basically say just to get the HDMI 2.1 cable. I haven't yet but it doenst seem to be a cable issue as people have ALSO complained about similar issues with the Belkin 2.1 HDMI cable that apple sells and says that it supports "Dolbby Vision". Apple better get their heads in the game here!

That is frustrating, I too am using the echo gear cable set to dolbyvision 60hz, and have not had an issue for the past 2 days. I know it’s only been a few days but I was getting multiple singles losses a day before with the older 2.0 cables.

I am though skeptical that it is the cable. I would not be surprised to continue to get some singles losses in the future with the echogear cable, I have a feeling the issue lies within the Apple tv software or the hardware. As I and other people have no issues playing 4K dolbyvision content through other devices such as Blu-ray players ect with regular old cables.

So what will happen is the audio will go into the TV from your Apple TV and the TV will take the audio signal and send it out through the ARC port.

Apple TV (audio & video out) —> HDMI 1 (audio & video in)

[[ Sound and Video processes in TV ]]

HDMI 2? (ARC port, audio out) —-> sound bar (ARC port, audio in)

The goal is to have your TV process the video portion (Dolby Vision) of the HDMI signal because nothing else can. To do this you have to have the Apple TV connected directly to your TV.

I've been seeing this for a while with my non-4k ATV gen4 back to an older LG (LG 42LS5700). Started about 6months after I got the ATVgen4 last Christmas. I've applied all the updates to the TV and I even got a replacement from Apple but didn't help. The odd part is when I run the ATVgen4 through my Denon AVR to a different, older LG TV, I don't have the problem. It's only when I run directly to the LG-42LS5700 TV. The other odd part is when I run my ATVgen3 directly to the 42LS5700 I don't have the problem. Going to try the Echogear and see if that helps.

For people who cannot afford the Echogear cable, they will be restricted to 1080p 30Hz, and should sell their Apple TV 4K and get an older model.

That is quite untrue. I bought HDMI cables from Amazon at a cost of £ 7.50 and they work perfectly well. They were incorrectly classified as Ultra High Speed which is incorrect but many resellers do this, the correct certification nomenclature is Premium High Speed.

And you don't know how many people are suffering from this issue that aren't aware / posting on this thread or even what the problem is... Millions of people that own 4K AppleTV's don't have an LG OLED 4K TV - notice the similarity in this thread? (**** - most of them don't even have a 4K TV).

Bottom line, there's a technical / software issue with the AppleTV 4K when using it on 60Hz with an LG TV that needs to be corrected by Apple.

I bought the ultra high speed belki cable sold in the apple stores. It has made better but still some brief flicker. No loss of image but sound briefly brakes. Then the dolby vision logo comes and all continues. With other cables, I would have even complete loss of signal; no video, no sound. With the current cable the worse is brief flicker in signal or the inferior portion of the image disappears for a second and then comes back

This is a problem with AppleTV and needs to be solved. How could Roku, Amazon fire TV stick??!!

The beta for me also had no drops for me as well. It happened once to me the other day since the update, but no problems after that. I have been using my Apple TV 4K to watch everything possible to see if the issue comes up. Download the Public Beta of tvOS 12.2, which came out today to see if that fixes the problem. I can still return mine by February 4 if I need too. Good luck!
