I went to my local Apple store, told them what happened. They took me right away with no appointment (next available appointment was a week later). They had me speak with a manager. Then, They brought someone from the back room. This was the person who would handle my repair. They offered a two tiered solution - calling it a “false touch” issue, they were going to replace the screen. And, if that didn’t work, they were going to give me a new phone.
They replaced the screen in about 45 minutes. It has worked fine ever since.
I recommend going to the store - capture the craziness on video if possible (I used someone else’s phone).
seems its a major issue and even its not admitted by apple.
same issue here, went to apple store in Abu Dhabi UAE and after 3 hours waiting just to have a look into my iphone x , they said they will change the screen only (bought it on18/03).
im using iphone products since 2G but now im done.
Had the same issue. Seemed to happen after I updated to 11.2.5
Called apple and the hard reset worked.
Volume up
Volume down
Then hold right button until you see the apple.
Has been perfect since.
Update on my ghost touch: I brought my phone to Apple genius bar. They ran diagnostics check & all was fine, so then wiped out the phone and did factory reset. My phone has been fine since.
Apple Support helped me to get a display replacement. My phone was picked up by UPS and I got it back within 4 working days. Good service. Now I’m in control of my iPhone again.

I had this issue pop up on December 18. Which was exactly 15 days after getting the iPhone X on 11/3. Can you guess the terms of the return policy (from carrier)?.... 14 days. Luckily, and I mean seriously.... luckily - I did not purchase from a direct Carrier, I purchased from COSTCO and they have a 90 day return policy. I was able to have COSTCO order a brand new device direct from Verizon, and did an exchange. I just wanted to add my experience to the conversation and put a phrase in my comments that I was searching for when I was looking for help. "Phantom Touches".
I have Sprint but went to Apple. Mine was just random at first but then it got worse and worse to where it would make calls and I had to turn off Amazon one-click shopping! The first visit the did a hard reset which worked for only a few hours. Next visit they agreed to replace the front of my phone. Thankfully I was only a few months into my warranty so it was at no cost to me. It’s been five ever since.
I had this problem on my iPhone X purchased in July 2018. Contacted Apple support, they were very helpful with some troubleshooting steps. After the steps did not resolve the ghost touch, they sent me a new phone free of charge although they did put a hold on my credit card.. I had to ship the old phone back and then the hold was removed . So far new phone is working fine but it took a month for my old phone to start acting up. I am hopeful this phone is OK. The Apple Support people are very knowledgeable and helpful.
In the end it went back to Apple for a third service and they replaced the screen. Has been working fine ever since.
I'm having the same issue (in Google Maps, Fox News, native Email app, etc.). I took it to the Apple Store and they did a hardware test on the touch screen. They wanted me to do a total reset (wipe all my apps, wallet items, etc.). I said "no way" (I have ~100 apps, years of photos)
It occurs without a screen protector and also without a case (just to rule out any interference). When I reboot the iPhone X it clears up for a while, but comes back usually within 24 hours.
This issue needs to be fixed!!
Having this issue - so frustrating. Just got the phone about a month ago, while at work it started going crazy - apps opening/closing quickly, when trying to select something on the screen it was as though I was touching another part of the screen, zooming in/out quickly. Tried hard reset, did factory reset and installed iCloud backup, then factory reset and set up as new phone without restoring from any backup and still did it. I was told if this happens, it must be a hardware issue, not software issue. I guess this means I need to try to go get a new one. :/
There are 2 possible causes of this problem:
My iphone having this issue too. I removed the tempered glass and it works fine back. Now still testing, will update how it is going on.
I am also having this issue: I have had the X for three weeks now, just updated to 11.2 last night, but began having "ghost touch" issues with the screen early yesterday morning. I've had a case on since day one, and I have NOT dropped the phone. I do not live in cold weather, so it's not THAT bug. The main problem here is that when I hover my thumb or finger a few millimeters over the middle row of icons on the home screen, WITHOUT ACTUALLY touching it, the phone begins to go wild and open and close random apps, and scroll up and down by itself inside the app. It's as if a ghostly hand is trying to push every button as fast as possible. This happens several times per hour now. This screen issue seems to affect the middle row of icons on the home screen, as these are the apps that keep opening and closing by itself. I have a video of the issue happening as well, and it shows me trying to close the apps and the apps opening themselves again and switching to different home screens.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times, and the issue has not gone away. This issue cannot be fixed by generic support article suggestions.
That is exactly what happened to me, Apple did a replacement unit to me, but they claimed it is the brand new iPhone instead of refurbished set. Nevertheless, when turn on the unit, the wifi was auto connected to the AP. How can it be? So, you know what I mean. Got no choice and accepted it.
