I have had the X for three weeks now, just updated to 11.2 last night, but began having "ghost touch" issues with the screen early yesterday morning. I've had a case on since day one, and I have NOT dropped the phone. I do not live in cold weather, so it's not THAT bug. The main problem here is that when I hover my thumb or finger a few millimeters over the middle row of icons on the home screen, WITHOUT ACTUALLY touching it, the phone begins to go wild and open and close random apps, and scroll up and down by itself inside the app. It's as if a ghostly hand is trying to push every button as fast as possible. This happens several times per hour now. This screen issue seems to affect the middle row of icons on the home screen, as these are the apps that keep opening and closing by itself. I have a video of the issue happening as well, and it shows me trying to close the apps and the apps opening themselves again and switching to different home screens.

Better to video record it down and go Apple store for exchange. For my case, Apple was replaced me an new refurbished unit I guess! Coz exchange without any new serial number box, just simply replaced an unit of iPhone for me. Now my iPhone X serial number is different from my iPhone Box. Next time if want to sell it away at no resale value. Sigh!

esteemed applex in my case is the same. The problem started on Monday and worsened each day until it became unusable. I'm on vacation and I can not change the iPhone until February but as in all cases I want to change it for a brand new, not a refurbish. in your case the model that you replace starts with "n" or with "m"?. The first letter of the model describes what type of unit it is, whether it is brand new or refurbish. thanks for your answer.

I had this issue pop up on December 18. Which was exactly 15 days after getting the iPhone X on 11/3. Can you guess the terms of the return policy (from carrier)?.... 14 days. Luckily, and I mean seriously.... luckily - I did not purchase from a direct Carrier, I purchased from COSTCO and they have a 90 day return policy. I was able to have COSTCO order a brand new device direct from Verizon, and did an exchange. I just wanted to add my experience to the conversation and put a phrase in my comments that I was searching for when I was looking for help. "Phantom Touches".

Having this issue - so frustrating. Just got the phone about a month ago, while at work it started going crazy - apps opening/closing quickly, when trying to select something on the screen it was as though I was touching another part of the screen, zooming in/out quickly. Tried hard reset, did factory reset and installed iCloud backup, then factory reset and set up as new phone without restoring from any backup and still did it. I was told if this happens, it must be a hardware issue, not software issue. I guess this means I need to try to go get a new one. :/

I went to my local Apple store, told them what happened. They took me right away with no appointment (next available appointment was a week later). They had me speak with a manager. Then, They brought someone from the back room. This was the person who would handle my repair. They offered a two tiered solution - calling it a “false touch” issue, they were going to replace the screen. And, if that didn’t work, they were going to give me a new phone.

They replaced the screen in about 45 minutes. It has worked fine ever since.

I recommend going to the store - capture the craziness on video if possible (I used someone else’s phone).

Having the same issue with my iPhone X, bought it 2 weeks ago. And now its screen behaves like crazy, like someone is touching it, but it's not. Very annoying... Have latest iOS 11.2.5 installed onboard. I'm very disappointed, did not find any software solutions in the Internet. Going to call my reseller and ask for guarantee.

Does anybody have any updates on own cases? Is there a quick fix that I can apply at home?

I called AT&T, they sent me to the Apple Store and they did diagnostics. Suggested I reset to factory and do a restore, which I did. Still no improvement. So I called AT&T again, they connected me with Apple Support. Again the said I should do a factory reset (but not a restore - they said an "old setting" was causing it). I resisted 4 times saying without all my apps and photos it's like a dead brick. Finally they agreed to do a cross ship and sent out a brand new iPhone X.

I've not had any problems since then. Wish you the best. Keep pushing back, insist on a new phone.

It is a super irritating and weird glitch! I ended up doing a hard reset, then erase with instal of backup, then erase and set up as new device (all through iCloud) then I think I did an erase and back up through iTunes (I think I was told by apple that it would take off any software that might cause the problem) and finally was in a city with an apple store... they exchanged it for a new one and I set it up from a back up and haven't had any problems since (about three weeks now). Was told if I start having issues again, then it was a software not hardware issue and should erase and set up as new :/

I wonder if there is a batch of iPhones with this as a hardware issue...

This is so unacceptable !!! my friend has gotten my an iPhone X as a gift from dubai's apple store and after almost a week of usage i had this problem i first thought it was some software glitch or the screen protector did something wrong after taking the screen protector off and restoring the phone a couple times i'm now 100% sure it's their problem and the best part is i live in Damascus and i have no apple store or apple certified stores here 🙂 so basically i'm screwed i tried reaching apple support and they gave me some apple certified stores to check in Beirut i'm gonna go on a vacation some time soon there or i'll have someone deliver it there but i will be ****** if i'll let them fix it's my right to get a new (non-refurbished) device

such a shame i've been using iphone's since the iphone 4 and owned every single device since then (except the 5) and this now is making me lose faith in apple! 😟 they should have stores all around the world or at least a certified shop were users can check on their devices anywhere in the world
