After updating my iphone to 11.2 recently, I noticed I cannot look at my custom lyrics I added via iTunes on my phone anymore. There is no show lyrics button. Why is this? Is this a bug or is this how the app is for the foreseeable future? I am seriously, deeply sad and angry that this feature has been taken away. It was literally the only thing keeping me in iOS.

It took 2 hours with Apple support for them to figure out that's the way it works in 11.2.5.
You can only see the custom lyrics by displaying the song in a songs-in-album view, then pressing and holding the song title. A menu screen pops up with a Lyrics item at the bottom.
There are several ways to the songs-in-album view (as I call it).
- ppithermo's method, above.
- or, in the now-playing song view, tap the red, scrolling artist/title line below the song title.
Thank you for this. They were showing automatically while playing the song. After 11.2.1 update, they are no longer showing and you have to press and hold on a song, then choose lyrics. Very crappy indeed! Why would they change that? What is wrong with these people? Quit worrying about changing things to impress and just make sure everything works. It's different every time and I'm getting quite tired of it all.
You are right, ppithermo. Thanks! But you don't need to do all of those steps.
1. Hold your finger on a song in a list, and you get the screen with a choice to see Lyrics (if lyrics are present).
2. Touch the Lyrics choice, and they come up.
That's it!
Note: The song doesn't have to be playing. It shows only what you have selected.
(It's too bad that it doesn't update when the next song starts.)
You have to select Lyrics in the same way for each song.

The only way I can get it to show lyrics is by pressing firmly (3D touch) on a song from the list then tapping lyrics in the poop up menu.
You have to press and hold on the song. Then there will be a pop-up. Click on lyrics to view.

I found you don't have to do all of that, at least on my iPhone SE. In whatever list you are in, touch AND HOLD the song until you get another pop-up window -- lyrics is at the bottom.
Good news, I suppose. When I delete a song that is not displaying lyrics and re-add it to my device the lyrics do appear when using the multi-step process. (There is no Lyrics button, no default lyrics display and no lyrics when touching the artwork as it used to be once-upon-a-time).
I signed in to respond to someone who had an excellent work around, but can't see the answer now that I'm signed in, so I'll put the steps in here: (bear in mind I have not gone through my entire list of songs that seem to be missing the lyrics when you tap the 3 red dots, but so far so good 🙂
Play song
Tap on the 3 red dots at the bottom right
If the Lyrics option does not appear, tap on the small album artwork to the left of the name of the song
The song that is playing will be highlighted in pink. Hold your finger on the song.
You should hopefully now see the lyrics.
And suddenly a couple of my songs worked!
I have worked out that it was the new songs that I added tonight to iTunes, and added lyrics to them BEFORE the song got sync'ed onto the phone (iPhone 6). Existing songs with newly added lyrics have not carried across.
Wonder of wonders! Lyrics is now restored and working with 11.4! And ALL the lyrics, not just newly-added songs put in since the update.
Now just have to wait until the next 'update' disappears them again. And then the one after that restores them but only in a super-secret-decoder-ring corner of the app, then the next one it'll be gone again...and then back with the next update...and again...and again...
Li_La, this thread has gotten rather long. What, exactly, is not working for you?
There have been several improvements since this thread started, including that iOS 11.4 has restored the original method of bringing up lyrics.

I’ve found the lyrics are embedded still but only available by force touch in Album view.
This is truly frustrating.
Not a huge problem but completely backwards.
