Custom lyrics not showing iOS 11.2

After updating my iphone to 11.2 recently, I noticed I cannot look at my custom lyrics I added via iTunes on my phone anymore. There is no show lyrics button. Why is this? Is this a bug or is this how the app is for the foreseeable future? I am seriously, deeply sad and angry that this feature has been taken away. It was literally the only thing keeping me in iOS.

I noticed this issue too and I am furious about it. The only reason I still use iTunes is because it allows me to add custom lyrics for offline viewing. Why on earth would they get rid of this? Hopefully this is a bug or something.

I will delete my music from my phone and reload it to see if that does the trick. I’ll update you guys.

Update 1: not even deleting and re-adding my music and restarting my iPhone brings up the ability to see lyrics. So I’m EXCEEDINGLY ANGRY 😡 with Apple right now. I may as well go to Android cause there is no difference in their music apps now.

Update 2: I found out how to show lyrics after throughly messing with the music app. You have to 3D Touch the song to play it and the option to show lyrics will be in the drop down menu. A VERY STUPID DESIGN in my opinion.

Hey Will,

I don't mean to be a human ad for a specific developer or company, that's why I wrote "there are many different apps you can get from the App Store that consistently show lyrics without issues".

I've tried quite a few music apps in the past few years, mostly looking for apps that easily display ratings and lyrics, and the best ones for me right now are LeechTunes and CarTunes (only a matter of personal opinion of course).

I'm not sure what issues the reviewers you saw found with LeechTunes, it's been working fine for me.

But they point I wanted to make here is that this confirms that the lyrics are indeed embedded in there, but Apple's Music app just cannot show them anymore, for some strange reason. I didn't mean to tell people they should use the app I use, far from it.

Alex

P.S. I just noticed I wrote 'i.e.' instead of 'e.g.', which completely changes the meaning, sorry for that.

Hi. I posted a workaround above, but here is again...

I signed in to respond to someone who had an excellent work around, but can't see the answer now that I'm signed in, so I'll put the steps in here: (bear in mind I have not gone through my entire list of songs that seem to be missing the lyrics when you tap the 3 red dots, but so far so good 🙂

Play song

Tap on the 3 red dots at the bottom right

If the Lyrics option does not appear, tap on the small album artwork to the left of the name of the song

The song that is playing will be highlighted in pink. Hold your finger on the song.

You should hopefully now see the lyrics option

To add to this, I tried some more songs, some of which did not load the lyrics, so the solution to that is to go into ITunes on your computer--->song--->get information---lyrics--->alter just one character in the lyrics you have (I put a space after the first line). You can now go back to your IPhone music and follow the steps above. For the most part the lyrics load, I had to do the same steps above a couple of times for a couple of songs, but they eventually appeared.

Hope this helps 🙂

ok I don't believe they were telling you the whole truth when they told you it was purposefully this way and not a bug. i have been working at AppleCare (Apple's phone support) for years, until relatively recently, and i have seen former colleagues do this: give the caller a wrong answer with conviction to make the issue go away.

let me recap the issue we're discussing: in iOS 10 and later lyrics were meant to show right below the album artwork, but before Up Next.

see a description here: View lyrics in Apple Music - Apple Support

however, this never worked perfectly, it was not showing the lyrics to some of the songs. and every update made it a little worse. it was showing lyrics this way maybe for half the songs or less, but in iOS 11.x.x it shows lyrics for none of the songs

now, if the specific AppleCare advisor or senior advisor that you spoke to told you that they temporarily did away with this feature, because they're trying to figure out what to do, i might believe it.

but i can't believe this complicated way of showing lyrics is the way Apple wants it right now

therefore, i think they gave you a half truth to make you go away

I believe i have a reliable way of getting the lyrics to be visible on the iphone.

I enclose a link to a small movie illustrating the methode.

I go for example to playlist pick a list, then a song.

Once the song is playing, I touch the song at the bottom of the scren.

I get the artwork.

If I touch the 3 red dots, the window that pops up does not containe the line lyrics. .

I click now on the small art work.

This activates a new list.

The song is displayed in pink.

I keep my finger on that song.

A new window pop up where the item lyrics appears at the bottom.

Of course complicated but reliable...it seems

good luck all.

It still appears to depend on the model/size of the device; the vast majority of files on my 6 Plus still do not display the lyrics, and those that do require at least 5 convoluted steps, and even then they display inconsistently. Some of my files display lyrics in "songs" but not in playlists.

Apple apparently messed the feature up when attempting to make lyrics force-touch friendly and now they are not adequately testing all models / variables when trying to fix. I suggest they revert to the older system where lyrics always displayed below artwork.

Its a few months later and now this function works. Just barely though mate.

I found it works well with songs paired with very small lyrics. Barely a paragraph or so if you were to stretch it out.

Any song that is longer, it will, and I repeat, not show up using your method sadly.

It is my hope that Apple would fix this. This problem is only getting more attention now, and with luck it will be fixed.

Sadly though, the newest update iOS 11.2.6 has not improved on this issue.

Sorry. It is the tryk from "ppithermo" and not from "Retxed24". I redisplay it.

And as I said, not necessary< to display the pink song title. You can do this directly from the normal song title
