Custom lyrics not showing iOS 11.2

After updating my iphone to 11.2 recently, I noticed I cannot look at my custom lyrics I added via iTunes on my phone anymore. There is no show lyrics button. Why is this? Is this a bug or is this how the app is for the foreseeable future? I am seriously, deeply sad and angry that this feature has been taken away. It was literally the only thing keeping me in iOS.

This is getting painful.

It worked only with difficulty in iOS11.1.2.

For me it was necessary to remove all of my music and then sync it again.

Now, even this trick does not work...

How could we get apple to get this to work???

I've got the 11.2.2 update, iPhone 6 Plus. Thousands of songs over decades. Standard "UNSYNCEDLYRICS" tag in the metadata inserted through various programs over the years ranging from Winamp to Mp3tag to automatic stuff like Lyrics Finder.

Up until iOS 11, all lyrics displayed all the time, flawlessly. Now, after the cumbersome 6-step process, only a minority of them show lyrics. The tags are all the same, so perhaps my iPhone is only picking them up if the UNSYNCEDLYRICS tag is in a certain numerical spot among the various metadata, who knows?

Clearly there is variance from model to model of Apple device, and equally clearly, Apple needs to roll back to an earlier version that works on everything. Apple, once upon a time, was known for products that "just worked." Their stuff is a closed-source walled garden to prevent this precise kind of ish from happening. Shame on them.

Amazed u worked this out, indeed your method does work. Had it continued displaying lyrics for each song in playlist, I could almost deal with it.

Alas going though this for each song is ludicrous

I'll never understand why they keep messing with things that actually work well

clearly time where another love letter to Apple feedback

Nonetheless thanks for the work around truly impressive work

Alexandra, thanks. clearly what is needed urgently now is a lyrics on/off switch so that lyrics are automatically displayed if they have been entered. hence, new lyrics should appear automatically with each new song.

Possibly some adjustment of the window format. (split screen so that one still has access to controls to shuffle, next song etc.

It seems like, with every update of the music app, Apple makes some insignificant aesthetic change while crippling basic functionality. What happened to custom lyrics and star ratings? Why is it that, no matter if I choose to view artists, albums, or songs, the music is ALWAYS alphabetized by artist, thereby rendering the "album" and "song" view modes completely pointless?

Get it together, Apple. You're shooting yourself and your customers in the foot by screwing up basic functionality like this. The music app from ten years ago worked better than the current one.

This seems to be device-specific, my iPhone 6+ could behave very differently than an iPhone 6 or 6s or iPad, etc.

I would also suggest that apple may still be working on it. I don't think 11.2.2 was pushed out as a bug fix, but rather an emergency security update to address Spectre and Meltdown. Apple said a fix would be released "early in the year" so I'd hope it's still in the works.
