iTunes 12.7.2 CD Burning Issues

On my Windows 10 PC that hosts my primary iTunes music collection (70000+ songs) just completed the upgrade to the latest iTunes release (shows 12.7.2.58 as the version) via the Apple Software Update process.

After completing the upgrade I attempted to burn the playlists for 4 new classical albums (all MP3 downloads) to CD-R media. The CD burning process for all 4 albums failed with the following error message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred. (0x80004005)".

In each instance the albums played without issue when listening to them via iTunes (and my computer speakers).

Thinking that this may be an issue with iTunes 12.7.2 I logged on to another computer with an iTunes instance that had not been upgraded (the iTunes version on the other PC is 12.7.1.14). I copied the MP3 files for all 4 albums to that iTunes instance and then created playlists for each album. Was able to burn the playlists for all 4 albums to CD media with NO errors.

I will also note that with iTunes 12.7.2.58 I was able to burn one playlist to CD successfully but the burning process was painfully slow (4-5 times slower than normal).

Based on these results it appears to me that iTunes 12.7.2 has some significant bugs/issues relating to burning playlists to CD media.

Rolling back to iTunes 12.7.1.14 may be easier than transferring your playlists into Windows Media Player.

Uninstall iTunes then download and install one of the following as appropriate:

An alternative suggestion is to limit the burn speed to something slower than you would normally use.

Reports suggest Apple are aware of the issue but there is no ETA for a new build.

I have the same problem, converted all my songs to MP3's and when I put them back on the playlist they reverted back to purchased AAC music files, which are to large to burn to a disc, this happened after the last update a few days ago

That doesn't make sense. Converting from one lossy format to another loses quality, but you can potentially make smaller files. That said AAC should be slightly smaller than MP3 for the same nominal quality, e.g. 256k. Burning either to audio CD makes the same size tracks on the disc. Adding tracks to a playlist won't cause them to change from one format to another. 😕

People we get it!! YOU HAVE THE SAME ISSUE! This thread is getting filled with repetitive replies. Lets get back on track.

HAVE THE PEOPLE WHO REPLIED DEEP IN THIS THREAD HEARD BACK FROM APPLE? A few replies stated that they were gonna be contacting you back after you went through and discussed the issue with them. Any updates?? THATS MOST IMPORTANT. Because I am not one of these people who's gonna go through all the trouble of doing this and doing that in order to fix it pre update. This is APPLES responsibility. I have received the same reply, from Apple. So Im wondering if anyone has heard back after you explained the issue.

Would you mind explaining the procedure that you went through that resolved your problem? I too uninstalled then reinstalled but it didn't help matters. Then I performed a system restore and, again.......no change. Where are the brains in here? Who's going to get to the bottom of this? Surely the guys at Apple must be inundated with a mass of complaints. It's so darn frustrating!

This is becoming very frustrating as well as time consuming and ( considering all the blank CD's and ink I've wasted printing labels) expensive. Apple promotes their itunes service with the commitment that we'll be able to back up our purchases in fact it's encouraged. itunes materials state :

You can also use your CD burner to back up your music. It’s especially important to back up the music you purchase from the iTunes Music Store, just in case a file is accidentally deleted or damaged.

With these recent updates and the inability to use the burn -back up function in Windows,we're being denied a significant part of our agreed benefit from iTunes Music. I've paid a lot of money for these songs and albums as well as additional service subscriptions and this failure to provide the stated backup -burning services is troubling. It's almost like a "bait -and -switch" -where we pay for music to back up but that function is no longer available. I know that with all that's going on in the world that this may seems like just a minor issue to some but the continued failure of Apple to address the issue shows a lack of customer support bordering on greed. Perhaps if enough of us suggest possible agreement violations and economic loss issues with our time and failure to get the full use of our iTunes purchases we might get someone's attention.

I have the same problem since the latest iTunes update. Since I also had a Windows 10 update at the same time, I thought perhaps my CD/DVD writer needed a driver update. It didn't. Wasted 6 CDs so far. As I have over 200 playlists, I'm not willing to uninstall and go to a previous version. When will Apple provide a fix? This is a serious limitation!

** iTunes support ** I see at least 4 different threads about this problem and I do not see any actual replies from Apple.

Not a clue. I'm a fellow user so I don't have any inside knowledge, but clearly if one build works while another doesn't, on exactly the same hardware, OS, and updates, then the conclusions are obvious. Until such time as Apple brief their support personnel that this is a known issue they are likely to want to shift the blame, and there certainly have been issues caused by Windows updates over the years.

So, RB.....you are still convinced that Apple is solely the culprit and not Microsoft? Since the updates provided by Apple and the user group spreads across the entire Windows network, I would side with you on this one. You would think that the first order of the day with Apple before they release an upgrade and/or a revision, they would first and foremost be sure that it is compatible with all user systems. Does anybody know whether they (Apple) could simply provide a turn back to the previous version for the time being until such time that they reconfigure a more reliable next upgrade?

Yup! You got that right. Windows Media Player is not a best fit for an iTunes library carry-over. Firstly, the organization platform in iTunes with regard to systematically spacing out your library contents, immediately observable in both playlist form plus titled composition (songs, video, albums). Secondly, the search, preview then buy having been integrally built into your Apple account which enables the user to personally compile, burn and print CD size labelling.

Aside from all this it's hard to believe that we or anyone here within our forum who has managed to make a concrete approach to Apple hasn't found Apple overly concerned about this, or, that Microsoft and Apple seemed to have locked heads on this.
