iTunes 12.7.2 CD Burning Issues

On my Windows 10 PC that hosts my primary iTunes music collection (70000+ songs) just completed the upgrade to the latest iTunes release (shows 12.7.2.58 as the version) via the Apple Software Update process.

After completing the upgrade I attempted to burn the playlists for 4 new classical albums (all MP3 downloads) to CD-R media. The CD burning process for all 4 albums failed with the following error message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred. (0x80004005)".

In each instance the albums played without issue when listening to them via iTunes (and my computer speakers).

Thinking that this may be an issue with iTunes 12.7.2 I logged on to another computer with an iTunes instance that had not been upgraded (the iTunes version on the other PC is 12.7.1.14). I copied the MP3 files for all 4 albums to that iTunes instance and then created playlists for each album. Was able to burn the playlists for all 4 albums to CD media with NO errors.

I will also note that with iTunes 12.7.2.58 I was able to burn one playlist to CD successfully but the burning process was painfully slow (4-5 times slower than normal).

Based on these results it appears to me that iTunes 12.7.2 has some significant bugs/issues relating to burning playlists to CD media.

Rolling back to iTunes 12.7.1.14 may be easier than transferring your playlists into Windows Media Player.

Uninstall iTunes then download and install one of the following as appropriate:

An alternative suggestion is to limit the burn speed to something slower than you would normally use.

Reports suggest Apple are aware of the issue but there is no ETA for a new build.

Welcome to the group of us who have been here for the better part of six weeks brain storming together on how to get around this problem in the wait. Many of us have also had to dispose of spoiled CDs. There's nothing much that we can do at this point until a fresh remedial response is made available. In the meantime if you peruse the community there have been some reliable suggestions offered herein, although temporary, with a little patience a satisfactory burn can be done. It's just too bad that Apple hasn't posted an advisory alert on iTunes to caution us from repeatedly attempting to do burns resulting in multiple CDs having to be scrapped.

Hello. I, too, have disc burning issues. I wasted about 20 discs; some just trying to help out the Apple phone support rep to determine the errors. By the end of the conversation I was told it must be a Windows 10 issue. Upon contacting Microsoft I learned that it is not a Microsoft issue, but an iTunes issue. So I tried another laptop and I have the same issue on that one. So, here we are with a burning issue and no resolution.

It certainly is. Although the newer version appears to burn the playlists; there still are flaws. Firstly there are no texts for each track (?) also some tracks take far too long to play on the cd that’s burnt. I understand beggars can’t be choosers but Apple really need to sort this as we are now approaching two months of frustration.

I was trying to back -up burn a music podcast that runs 1:19:55 -guess itunes read this as over the 80 minute mark and I got the "this recording requires more than one CD ' pop up. Even checking "OK" to that notice -no burning started. I then right-clicked into the "Podcast Info " and then to "options". Changed the start and stop times to get the podcast under 80 minutes and it then recorded. This is an option for now but with longer backup's this is a problem. Should have waited for others to test drive the latest update before I launched it. Thanks for all your help

Been following this tread for awhile and have had many issues as mentioned by others. Just upgraded to the most recent I-Tunes yesterday and continue to have the following issues. Can burn RW (2 diff brands) and CD-R's from an old batch without problems. However I get errors with all other reputable brands (3 diff ones) of CD-R that I've tried. Uninstalled and am unable to go back to older version since playlists had been created under the new. Anyone else encounter this?

Where to find the previous version of i-Tunes please? I cannot get hold of it.

Uninstall iTunes. Download and install one of the following as appropriate:

Thanks to Ridley1555 we know it isn't necessary to uninstall the other components in this instance, nor do you need to roll back your database.
