High Sierra 10.13.2 cannot find my audio device

I'm using an external audio interface, "M-Audio Fast Track Pro", which was automatically recognized by the OS until now. After updating High Sierra to 10.13.2, which one of its improvements is about a best "compatibility with certain third-party USB audio devices", my iMac 27" Mid 2011 don't recognize the external audio interface at all!!!!

What the heck is going on? Is it a simple "bug", and I have to wait for a new update in order to use again my audio interface? Or is it simply considered an old device and no longer supported?

Thanks for any answer!

If you don't have a previous High Sierra installer, try this update I've found in Apple support, it's an older one they posted one month ago, it should probably "downdate" your macOS to 10.13 or 10.13.1, but I'm not perfectly sure!

Hi friends, I've got a lot of help before, now it's time to give it back.... ;-)

I found a (temporary) solution for the issue.....!!

I copied some files of the mbox-driver (with has been updated for sierra) into the 1.9.5. driver of my fast tracks pro files, tryied some combinations..... and magic!!!! It works, it works for recording, track values etc etc.... I attach my patched files with this instruction:

1. install the included mbox-driver

2. install the included fasttracks pro-driver

3. exchange like written on the folder

4. delete like written on the folder

Good luck!! - Minicus

ok, maybe the steps written are a bit confusing, i.e. you have to change the automatically installed extensions with the one I patched... that's all! There are two of them, one in the OS/System/Library/Extensions and one in the OS/Library/Extensions - change the installed fastrack-extensions with the ones in the called "exchange Folder"..... to avoid to have a prefpane and exts of the mbox-install just delete these... only these! ;-) - good luck! I believe that the other users, do not have the same feeling about missing the support after a new release of the OS being applied, this is not a new OS Version or a total change, this happens after the rel 10.13.2... so the solution for Mac users is "by another interface".... very nice.....

So Windows users are REALLY LUCKY that they can continue to use their hardware on any version of the Operational System, I'm one of these Lucky guys since I own both computers and I'm able to continue working without spending money on a new interface.

Just feeling sorry for the users that are not Lucky as I'm and only can rely on Mac....

I prefer to insist: it's not a Fast Track Pro driver problem. I believe It's a core-audio usb drivers problem, since this updates change something that not recognize our M-Audio FTP. It's working for me even on High Sierra 10.13.0 (without this OSX Support by Avid/M-Audio). The latest drive from Avid 1.9.5 installing well, and configuration panel has installed fine too, for me. But the problem is: the audio device isn't recognized anymore in my case.

I will wait one or two moths for any solution... other way I need to buy another audio interface to keep working with music. =(

It stinks that M-Audio (or Avid) dropped support for this thing, but they did so years ago.

That said though, it had always worked just fine using Mac's class-compliant audio device drivers with no other drivers needed...until 10.13.2 broke it. I too can confirm that it worked in 10.13.1.

I bit the bullet and bought a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 (which IS still supported by the manufacturer and i can confirm DOES work in 10.13.2). Apple's answer is everything has always been "Oh, we dropped support for that older thing, you need to buy the newer thing." ALWAYS. So don't hold out hope that Apple is going to "fix" this. They're not. If you need a working audio interface, start shopping.

Jeez, fine. How about "Apple changed the way that macOS manages class-compliant (no-driver-needed) devices, and as a result of that change, a device that many people own that used to work no longer does."

I'm not sure what your point is in arguing the semantics of this is. Yes, M-Audio dropped support for it. That stinks, but everyone already knows this. But in THIS case: The devices used to work until Apple's latest update to macOS caused it to stop working. Don't over-complicate this. Regardless, the result is the same: nobody is going to "fix" this, meaning everyone's two choices are: don't update past or rollback to 10.13.1, or buy a new audio interface.

I bought the Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 because 10.13.2 broke functionality of my M-Audio Fast Track Pro, and it has been working fine
- no drivers or apps necessary.

thelostsoulman: did your Scarlett Solo work work in 10.13.2? According to Focusrite, the Scarlett line is compatible with High Sierra:

https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115005073725-Focusrite-product-c ompatibility-with-macOS-10-13-High-Sierra

Meaning it’s an actively sold and supported device, so I’d be shocked to learn that 10.13.3 broke it.
