Both my wife and I are having the same issue with GPS and iPhone X in multiple apps (waze, google maps) . She is running iOS 11.2. I am running 11.2.5 (beta). GPS has been reset multiple times on both phones. Location services are on and apps are all set to use GPS while app is running. Hard resets accomplished. Problem is intermittent after resets. Whats the deal. Paid waaaayyyy too much money for this phone to have these issues.
Thank you.
I was having the same issue.
GPS turned on correctly but maps not keeping up with me or drifting. Direction pointing opposite way etc.
I don’t use my phone on a mount as I have been a passanger in the car with this issue.
Your post made me think what was around me. I use my phone case to hold my bank cards which have a magnetic strip. Once I took my phone out of my case my gps issue was fixed. The magnetic strip must have been interfering with the gps.
What did they told you at the Apple Store? I asked what are they going to do if the issue persists. They said that they wouldn't be able to do much else since they gave me a new phone. And I asked them what that meant. And they told me that I would have to keep a defective phone until Apple eventually maybe has an update for iOS that fixes the issue. I really didn't know how to answer to that. I hope that the issue doesn't show up again.
Running into the same issue. On my second iPhone X and Maps, Google, and Waze still do not work in my 2013 Sonata. Works perfectly in my wife’s car though. Spent a while troubleshooting with Apple. Still running into same problem though.
Mulling this over a bit more...
I haven't seen it lately but, some years back, some high-end vehicles had an unusual means of keeping the fog off the windshield. When you look at these windshields at certain angles from the outside, the windshield looked silvery. Do you have that?
Nothing like that. I have even driven with my phone held out the window as far as I can reach. Still the same issue while my wife sits next to me in the same car navigating just fine one her iPhone 7+.
Wow. You just shot me down horribly! I reread your earlier posts and, right now, I'm clueless.
I'm kinda thinking that it might be the antenna but, if that's the case, it would have acted up from day-one. Further, this stationary vs. moving around is bothering me. That's gotta really suck because you can't demonstrate the issue while standing still in an Apple Store!
Well, I'll post back if I think of something else to do/try but right now I don't have any confidence.
Now you're really getting me angry! ⛈
I can't blame the IOS. My wife has a "6" and I have a "7" and both of us have kept up-to-date with the latest IOS level. We use the Maps app exclusively and it's been flawless for both of us. I have friends with both an "8" and an "X" (and up-to-date IOS) also with no problems. I don't know what navigation app they use.
Well, again I'm clueless. I'll post back if I think of anything worthwhile to say.
paul221, that's definitely helpful--thanks for sharing!
For more objective test, it would make sense to record log of satellite availability over time, on two devices traveling/lying together for some time.
Anyone can recommend a GPS
availability logging app that can do that?
You're welcome!
Tomorrow I'll be recording a video of both devices (iPhone 6s plus, iPhone X) with the GPS Diagnostics on while driving as well as test to see how both phones perform on google maps, maps, and waze.

So, here is my strange update to my gps not working while moving. Like I said before, it was still not working after the 11.2.5 upgrade. Yesterday on 1/24 I was taking my kids to dinner and they asked if I could turn on my WiFi hotspot so they could use their tablets in the car. I turned it on and decided to check maps again while I drove. To my surprise it was working perfectly. I turned off my WiFi hotspot and tried again. It’s still working perfectly after 20 hours. I’ve been using the wireless charging pad also. I seriously doubt turning on my WiFi hotspot did anything to resolve this but it’s what I was doing when everything started working again. Absolutely no clue why it’s back to normal again.
It's "FM" --- the "M" is "Magic."
Apple isn’t getting off that easy by saying I had a setting wrong. They walked me through resetting the phone back to factory settings with none of my data restored, twice. It was literally set up as a new phone and it still had this problem. So it wasn’t my settings. If it had a problem under those conditions based on settings then at the very least I blame the Apple default settings. It’s still some wierd item either with software or hardware. For now it’s working. Luckily it’s on the iPhone a year program so it’s always under Apple care. If it happens while I’m trying to drive around Scotland with my wife on our upcoming anniversary trip I’m going to be less happy though.
I’m back to having no gps again. This time I have no satellites whether I’m moving or not. I was working fine for 4 days then I manually turned off location services for 3 hours. When I turned it back on gps has not worked since. I tried all the same fixes as last ti me. Even restored the phone last night. No gps.
Yes, I have been having issues with Waze, Maps (Apple own product) and Strava. With Strava, where I have run 30X before on this trail, is states NO GPS. I have been working with Apple, have removed my software, where it is like a new phone, then reload NEW iOS, yet, GPS does not work, want my $1,200 back.
I just got my Iphone X in December. The only time I use my GPS is when I travel. The GPS does not work at all. I'm floating off route or the map pausing and I go right by where I'm supposed to turn or exit. I have now gone to the Apple store and they traded out my iphone last Saturday. The ran all sorts of diagnostics and everything checked out. They said if it doesn't work, go get a new sim card. I'm with AT&T. I went and got a new sim card because the new phone on I received on the February 3 didn't work either. The new sim card didn't fix anything. I then went again to the apple store and asked for them to give me a refund. They said they couldn't help me because they just traded out my phone. They asked if I wanted a NEW iphone just 2 days after trading in my 1st one. They did a firm ware update from scratch on the 3rd phone and said, 'I hope it works out for you'. Guess what, GPS still does NOT work. Go figure. Other Iphone X users at my office also have the same problem. Strangely, the people at the Apple store acted like this was the first time they had heard of this issue. Almost like I was 1 in a million. WOW! Maybe I'll win the lottery too.
Why is my GPS not working on iPhone X?
