Sleep Wake Failure with High Sierra 10.13.2

Since installing 10.13.2 I have a sleep wake failure on iMac. Was working perfectly before installed latest update on Dec 8.

This is not an uncommon problem but the "fixes/solutions" one reads on the internet are all over the place.

Is there a fix or is this simply something only Apple can solve for all those now plagued by the problem? It is irritating in the extreme.

It isn't a problem with the update. I do not have such a problem. Didn't have a problem with 10.13 or 10.13.1 either. My suggestion is a problem in the underlying system you upgraded. So, the first thing I will recommend you try is this:

  1. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.
  2. Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support.
  3. Boot into Safe Mode - this takes longer than normal.

The second thing you want to do is:

Repair the Drive for El Capitan or Later

  1. Restart the computer and after the chime hold down the Command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears.
  2. Select Disk Utility and press the Continue button.
  3. Then select the indented (usually, Macintosh HD) volume entry from the side list.
  4. Click on the First Aid tab in the toolbar and wait for the Done button to activate. Click on it, then quit Disk Utility.
  5. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

The third thing to do is: Download and install the macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 Combo Update.

That's it for now. After the Combo Updater is completed your computer should restart. However, if it does not then restart the computer normally.

I have been having the same issues with a Mac desktop since updating to High Sierra. The computer wakes up slowly and usually restarts itself once or twice a day. I just installed the 10.13.2 Supplemental update that came out 01/10/2018 and no fix. Still having the same problems. This is ridiculous. I have been working with a tech who told me the engineers have seen the problem and are working on a fix but WHEN? This really stinks.

Well this is almost annoying. Sleep wake failure was almost guaranteed if I let my laptop sleep long enough, until I did a clean install of Sierra. I cloned it, so I considering it would only take me an hour to reformat and restore I decided to hurt myself and upgrade to High Sierra. The really annoying part is that was almost a week ago and no sleep wake failures YET. Why? A clean install of High Sierra didn't fix it for me and I originally encountered this bug after upgraded to High Sierra.

I upgraded because I was interested in seeing what effect the meltdown and spectre patches had on my work (actually pretty big 🙁) I don't think anybody should take this route. It ***** and is a waste of time but it is more evidence that is is some kind of software bug.

Hope Apple sort out this bug soon. It's pretty maddening and you know what? I don't think your missing anything on El Cap or Sierra; I'm only staying on High Sierra because of Meltdown/Spectre.

One thing I did that stopped the problem for a little bit was to turn off the setting "Put hard disks to sleep whenever possible." I'm not sure if it fixed it or if my computer just started working again, but it did solve the problem for a few weeks. However the problem did reoccur later. Hope this might be helpful.

Started having the same problem last couple weeks. Found a solution in System Preferences > Energy Saver. It also has options for computer sleep and display sleep. Unclicked "put hard disks to sleep when possible" and Mac back to normal. Always leave it on and it has always come to life with the touch of the space bar and been ready to go and now it is again.

I have tried that and it didn't help at all. Apple seems to be oblivious to this problem and I guess similar to the iPhone slow downs hoping that we will go buy new computers that are compatible with High Sierra. I had a senior advisor assigned to my case and they had me send them files telling what my computer was doing. She told me that they had found the errors and were working on fixing them. That was 3 week ago. I have tried emailing her 3 times since and have not heard any reply. So maybe she quite, was fired, doesn't care, or who knows... I know I am tired of having my computer restart itself once or twice a day. If I wanted this much aggravation I would go back to using Dells.

Completely agree. Apple becoming more like Microsoft everyday as of late. Instead of "just working" like it used to do, it now requires more and more steps to troubleshoot and debug. Just got new HP windows pc on sale at Sam's Club (only because I had to for a particular software program) and it's worked flawlessly so far, like Macs used to do. Plug it in, turn it on, updates itself and ready to go. Start up is also very fast. When did it flip-flop, Apple become Microsoft and vice versa?

-iTunes *****....can no longer access iPhone apps through iTunes, only on phone so expected to look through 2.2 MILLION apps 2 at a time on a tiny phone screen........APP STORE UNUSABLE

-photos on iPhone: people, selfies, and all the other UNDELETABLE albums crammed down our throat

REALLY miss Steve Jobs and his focus on user interface!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my tale.

I have MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) purchased in early February 2017.

After multiple failures to wake which was at the end not helped by NVRAM or SMC resets I took the computer to my local Apple Store. They were unable to get the computer to function and they accepted it for repair under warranty. When I got it back they had replaced the main board, the battery and the display; basically everything. The computer came back with MacOS 10.12.6 installed. Before I reinstalled ANY of my software the computer began to show Sleep Wake Failure. I now have turned off sleep and that is how I will continue to operate so that I can salvage some of my investment in this machine.

My first Mac was a 128K Macintosh. This MacBook Pro will be my last Apple computer. As demonstrated by this support thread and my own experience, Apple has multiple software and hardware problems with its current generation Macs and it is clear that they are both unwilling and more importantly UNABLE to fix these problems.

I have sent in 2 different system diagnostic downloads from my computer and after the second one the senior tech that was working with me said that the engineers had discovered the problem and were working on a fix. That was on Dec. 31, 2017. I haven't been able to contact that tech since. I can't believe they released High Sierra with this many problems. If they ever do get it fixed with an update I am definitely turning off the auto update and waiting in the future for them to get the problems fixed before I update. This has been horrible.

I have the same issue. I've done all of the steps: Reset PRAM, SMC, first aid on drive after booting into recovery, booted in safe mode, and re-installed the OSX. Still same problem. I know it's not my USB mouse because I tried using the apple mouse with same issue. I also turn of WI-FI and bluetooth before sleep but still get the Sleep/Wake failure. This is on my iMac late 2012.
