Apple watch series 1 keeps restarting after 4.2 update

Since I updated my apple watch series 1 to watchos 4.2 it keeps restarting alone mostly every time i check time or try to use it and its killing the battery in the process. I restored it as a new watch and it keeps doing the same thing. Any tips?

Hi

It is certainly not normal for your Apple Watch to restart unexpectedly.

Whilst I can't say why that has been happening, the following steps may help to stop if from happening again (check performance after each before moving on to the next):

If you have not yet done so, update both your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Close all apps and restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch (normally):

Unpair and re-pair your watch:

Remove apps and watch face complications:

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Good afternoon Skova,

I just wanted to share my follow up after receiving the watch back from apple. They requested that I call them once I had the watch in my possession to be connected with a senior adviser. I have not contacted them as of yet. I did, however, take your advice and followed the steps you posted on the other page. So far the watch has been stable with no resets for two days now and counting. If that changes I will share here on the forum. Thank you

Hello 7NINE3,

Thank you for sharing and glad to hear you are having the same success I have had. It has been since the 31st and I have not had one reboot (that I am aware of) and the battery lasts 24+ before I have to charge. I have also re-enabled the notifications for all except my Outlook email for work and Instagram is not reinstalled on my iPhone yet. I will do each of those next and see if it changes and let everyone here know.

Best regards,

Stephen

I can confirm it's been two days with no rebooting! Thank you so much

He's only noticed that battery life is shorter since he got device from service (December, his watch spent the last month rebooting every 2-5 min, so I guess it's a little expected...) and another thing he's noticed is that there's no animation when closing the circles, but just a static image... any guess why?

Thanks again for your help! 😀

Good afternoon everyone,

I woke up this morning to Watch OS 4.2.3 waiting to be installed. It states this is an update to fix a character issue that is causing the watch to crash. I have updated my watch with the latest software. I have now turned back on all of the notifications that I use. Fingers crossed let's see what happens. Has anyone else updated to OS 4.2.3? I would like to know how everyone else is making out with this new update for our buddies at Apple.

Good morning everyone,

Well, I am sad to report that watch OS 4.2.3 has NOT fixed the issue. I had to return back to my configuration of shutting down all notifications in order to allow the watch to be usable and not kill the battery. How some of you had better results. as of right now Apple watch and watch OS is pretty much not playing nice with each other. I am very disappointed with Apple in regards to this matter. As I type this the watch has rest 4 times within the last 10 minutes. SMH!!!😠
