Apple watch series 1 keeps restarting after 4.2 update

Since I updated my apple watch series 1 to watchos 4.2 it keeps restarting alone mostly every time i check time or try to use it and its killing the battery in the process. I restored it as a new watch and it keeps doing the same thing. Any tips?

Apple Watch, watchOS 4.2

Hi

It is certainly not normal for your Apple Watch to restart unexpectedly.

Whilst I can't say why that has been happening, the following steps may help to stop if from happening again (check performance after each before moving on to the next):

If you have not yet done so, update both your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:

Close all apps and restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch (normally):

Unpair and re-pair your watch:

Remove apps and watch face complications:

If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Yeah I believe as well that this is all software related. But what I wonder is what is apple finding when they are troubleshooting the ones we send in that information is not shared. So when I inquired about what was identified wrong with the last watch. They say that the report does not state it. For obvious reason I know. But come on this should have been resolved already by now in my opinion. The last updated 4.2.2 mane things even worst.

Well just as you called it. They just emailed me stating that there we not able to find anything wrong with the watch so they are returning it back to me. Which I had been telling them. It’s a software thing and not the watch itself. So when I get it I will try the steps that you provided on the other support page. To see if that will aid in me being able to get some functionality out of it.

Good afternoon Skova,

I just wanted to share my follow up after receiving the watch back from apple. They requested that I call them once I had the watch in my possession to be connected with a senior adviser. I have not contacted them as of yet. I did, however, take your advice and followed the steps you posted on the other page. So far the watch has been stable with no resets for two days now and counting. If that changes I will share here on the forum. Thank you

I can confirm it's been two days with no rebooting! Thank you so much

He's only noticed that battery life is shorter since he got device from service (December, his watch spent the last month rebooting every 2-5 min, so I guess it's a little expected...) and another thing he's noticed is that there's no animation when closing the circles, but just a static image... any guess why?

Thanks again for your help! 😀

Hi 7NINE3,

I have another post that I posted two days ago in another thread that is much longer than this one, it is the steps that I have done to get it working. It has been a week with no reboots (that I am aware of) and the battery lasting for an entire day as it always did before.

Check it out here on the last page from Feb 5th: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8076988

I would try it, let me know what happens. I was asked to send mine in and I tried this first. I have not sent it in.
