iPhone screen dims randomly

My iPhone X Screen dims on its own For about 10-15 minutes Then gets brighter again All on its own! I do not have auto brightness on I do not have tutone on I have no settings on that would affect the screen it’s very annoying paying $1200 for a phone and this is happening. I love Apple have every single product they make.

ANY THOUGHTS ON WHATS CAUSING THIS?

Thanks!

This is not an Attention Aware issue. Yesterday my phone was dimming on its own yet again while outside and I was standing next to my partner who’s phone was not dimming. We have identical settings regarding Attention Aware and we both have any potential auto dimming turned off. My screen, even at its brightest, isn’t crisp and white like his. Additionally, the phone will freeze for no apparent reason so I took my iPhone X into the Apple Store and they ran a diagnostic test and found nothing wrong, yet there most definitely is something wrong. It was a huge waste of time and quite frustrating considering the price of this phone.

I just have to say I had the problem with random dimming multiple times a day, I had tried every suggestion in these fifteen pages, and then I read Joanna's post about the second auto-brightness setting. That was a new one on me, so I went to settings to see for myself, and there it was. My magnifier was turned off, but I switched the second auto-brightness off anyway, muttering that this was just another waste of time—if the magnifier's off to begin with it's ridiculous to think changing a setting for it is going to make any difference.

I said that then, but today I say danged if four days later I haven't seen the dimming problem once.

So at risk of jinxing it, cheers to you, Joanna. 🍸 Makes no sense to me that that setting could matter, but I can't argue with results.

Sergio, chill the freak out with your posting the same thing 93 times.

Like the ms009986 said I already posted the same thing 93 times and guess what, I'll post 93 times if necessary.

Because i spend 7 months trying to figure out with apple a solution for this problem, was a tons of phone calls and a tons of store appointments.

First they changed my screen and nothing, after they give a brand new phone and nothing again, at this point I was VERY UPSET because the reason I decided spend a thousand dollars in a phone was looking for a perfect experience.

So I decide to call one last time and let they know how upset I was and that I demand a phone from apple that don't change the brightness for itself, the senior guy ( after 7 months ) told me that this is a built in feature you can't control and after the iPhone 6 every iPhone has this built in feature, and he did more, he said that all brands has the same built in feature, guess what I upgraded to a android phone ( note 9 ) and the screen is always at the brightness level that I stipulate.

Don't wasted your time and patience with this company they don't deserve it.

Thanks joannatamasm. I set my magnifier to off and it actually worked. I was going to go back in and turn magnifier on and then off again to reset it if it hadn’t worked the first time. Appreciate you sharing. Now to Apple....is there any way to block individuals on this discussion that abuse the service and blow up our notifications because they are angry?

Hey Serge, I agree with you about Apple Support...I have another case open, different problem, and after at first being shown lots of interest and attention, I was without explanation shunted off to a different agent who went through the motions of contacting me once or twice, then abruptly stopped answering my calls and emails altogether. I think they just hope you go away. I decided long ago that the best way to deal with this stuff is to do the troubleshooting yourself, which is how I got here and (hopefully) found a solution.

So while I sympathize with rage induced by Apple's terrible and/or clueless customer service, I can't really do anything to help. But if a tech support agent told me that this is definitely a built-in feature you can't control, that would give me renewed hope that there was a good chance I could fix it.

Here’s some trouble shooting tips on how to reduce battery usage.

settings> General> background app refresh and disable any apps that you don’t want active in the background when your not using the app.

go to settings> General> accessibility> Reduce motion and turn that on, be aware that turning that on will disable weather animations through the apple built in weather app.

go to settings> Passwords and accounts> Fetch new data and fetch data hourly.

go to settings> Control center> Customize controls and delete any controls you don’t want in the control center since this will reduce usage of the interface every time you pull down the control center.

i hope this helps and please let me know if you need help with anything else.
