iPhone screen dims randomly

My iPhone X Screen dims on its own For about 10-15 minutes Then gets brighter again All on its own! I do not have auto brightness on I do not have tutone on I have no settings on that would affect the screen it’s very annoying paying $1200 for a phone and this is happening. I love Apple have every single product they make.

ANY THOUGHTS ON WHATS CAUSING THIS?

Thanks!

I also believe that this is a heat related issue. It happens to me almost every day, but it always seems to be when the phone is connected to a charger, and specifically when the phone is warm to the touch.

Just tried my X without the case and it maybe lasted a bit longer than with the Apple case on before it ‘Auto’ started stepping down the brightness. Defenitly runs a little cooler without the case. Also running IOS 12 so this issue wasn’t fixed in the release like I was hoping. The strange thing is that even when the device is still feeling about the same temperature, sometimes it will start to automatically start stepping the brightness back up. The brightness slider has no effect in returning max actual brightness. I also fly drones with my iPad Pro and X and it’s a real issue trying to see the screen in the sun after the devices start mysteriously auto dimming (despite turning off all the auto dimming functions). The Pro really doesn’t like the direct sunlight and will quickly go into overheat auto shutdown. That one is however a design feature...

This isn't auto brightness I can assure you! This is a sudden drop in screen brightness when the phone heats up, ALL Brightness Settings have been turned off. It has nothing to do with settings, it's just a hardware issue with the CPU or rather the GPU inside of that. I guess it goes into low power mode to not melt when the CPU is under load.... Bad Engineering if you ask me! They should've separated the two to avoid this rather than putting everything on one chip.....

I also have this happening on a brand new iPhone XS Max. I guarantee that I have checked extensively through every possible setting so I wish people would stop responding with that answer.

It's not due to low battery either. If it's due to heat then it's happening when my phone is warm but definitely not too hot and not running 3D games or anything like that!

Apple told me they would swap the phone but I am reluctant to do that after reading previous experiences here.

Hoping for an answer from someone please!!

This was happening on my old iPhone X and now I have the new iPhone XS Max. I set this phone up as a brand new phone (Not from Backup) and installed all applications from scratch. No true-tone, no-autodimming enabled and no white point enabled and this still persists. This happens often i notice when the CPU is being taxed. I generally am gaming on the phone playing Battle Bay in particular when this happens. Apple Engineers help!

Same thing. My brother and I just bought two XS Max’s a few days ago and have turned everything off and are still having this problem. He’s exchanging his phone tomorrow actually.. hoping to have better luck with the replacement..I was going to do the same but after reading this thread, I don’t see a point in doing so. It’s happened to me while browsing the web and sometimes even just texting. Don’t play no games on this phone whatsoever. & Doesn’t happen with a specific app. Just randomly no matter what I’m doing.
