iPhone screen dims randomly

My iPhone X Screen dims on its own For about 10-15 minutes Then gets brighter again All on its own! I do not have auto brightness on I do not have tutone on I have no settings on that would affect the screen it’s very annoying paying $1200 for a phone and this is happening. I love Apple have every single product they make.

ANY THOUGHTS ON WHATS CAUSING THIS?

Thanks!

I also believe that this is a heat related issue. It happens to me almost every day, but it always seems to be when the phone is connected to a charger, and specifically when the phone is warm to the touch.

I am not able to use my telephone outside at all! This is absolutely not a feature but a flaw in the system. I had an iPhone 6 Plus and could use it to fly a drone. I am not able to use my new iPhone X As it cannot be seen in the sunlight. I had my first iPhone X replaced only to be told it must be a software issue. Now I’m on my third phone which was ran as a new device rather than backed up, thinking this may be the problem. The problem is Apple is not acknowledging that they have a flaw in the screen. And I don’t believe it’s heat related because my phone will even Dim in the house

It is a heat issue. Sunlight is not the problem for everyone. It has to do with load on the system. My first phone did it while gaming or being charged while in use. It was frequent and severe. My new one does it less, and it resolves faster. It rarely happens when it’s not charging. I do agree that Apple refuses to acknowledge it. That’s a problem.

I’m having the same issue. My phone continuously gets dimmer and dimmer if I’m still using it when it starts to dim till I have to completely restart my phone. This is so annoying especially if you’re trying to use it in the sun. I have tried every fix listed on this thread without any success. If anyone figures this out please let me know. It just ticks me off that I paid $1200 for the most advanced phone Apple has ever produced and little crap like this shuts you down when your trying to work. Ridiculous

Resolved: My perfect condition never dropped, cared for, already replaced due to volume buttons that broke on their own iPhone 7+ does this also. I’ll be playing a game and it just auto dims on its own.

I found the fix everyone!

Buy an Android device.

Notice how Apple hasn’t responded or addressed this issue and over 15 pages of brand new iPhoneX users are reporting the same thing?

It’s because this product is a piece of junk! Their software has become plagued and I have constant problems, especially with keyboards not appearing in text or being unable to attach photos to texts at times. My phone does unnecessary lock ups and all sorts of other pathetic vices.

Steve Jobs would’ve never ever allowed this trash to happen and ever since his passing, iPhones have performed horribly and are plagued with problems that even their own techs can’t fix just like this issue we’re having!

This is unacceptable and they should have addressed this in their software or fixed it by now, but instead they don’t care. Not enough people are complaining about it. Shame on us for supporting this nasty thieving company who doesn’t care about fixing their problems.

I want to love my phone so badly like I used to but this is just unacceptable. I can’t play a game without this crap dimming and it’s pathetic.

I will only be buying android from here on out.

Shame on you apple, RIP you sad sacks.

I just purchased an iPhone X a few days ago and I am starting to have the same problem. My screen will dim after playing a game for a few minutes and then return to its original brightness randomly. As far as people mentioning that Apple is acting like they are unaware of the problem that is not uncommon for them to do. Actually this is one of the reasons I sold all other Apple products and have only continued to use their phones, but after seeing how they are responding to this issue I am not sure if I will continue to buy their phones.Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience because you have saved me the trouble of spending so much time trying to get the issue resolved only to find out there is no solution to the problem. I will be returning my phone this week.

I was not expecting any response. I simply wanted to tell others that I am also experiencing the same problem because I am grateful they also came here and shared the problems they are experiencing. I am not expecting to find any official releases/acknowledgements/announcements via these forums, but the problem is that if you try looking up the issue online there is no real acknowledgement anywhere by apple. The only thing I have found so far is that they keep giving people the run around claiming they are not aware of this problem and simply swap out their phones with a replacement which does not solve the issue, or they simply tell them it is normal. Btw how long have you worked for apple 🙂.

This is not true. If you have read any previous posts including mine the screen dimming occurrs on other models, not just the X and all of the phones are running iOS 11.

So I have my X, it’s in my pocket not being used so there is no load on the processors and it’s not producing heat. I place it in the cradle on my dash, tap on Apple Maps and put in my directions. I put my vehicle in drive and in less than 2 minutes my screen dims to dark I can barely see it.

How can the phone get that hot in less than 2 minutes??? And it happens to my wife’s phone which is an iPhone 6 and she is just reading books, in the house so she is not in direct sunlight.

No, it’s not a feature to prevent burn in, it’s a bug in iOS 11. My sister has the 6s, she drove here from out of state and guess what??? Her screen was dimming.

As I stated earlier, I’ve used phones running iOS 10 and earlier and have never had this happen. I get the X with iOS 11 and it starts right away.

Apple doesn’t want to admit it’s an issue and hopefully they fixed it with iOS 12. Is anyone on this thread running the beta of iOS 12? I wonder if it’s continuing to happen on iOS 12.

I did install an aftermarket radio with CarPlay and no longer have the issue.

Same thing happens to me. Brought my

Phone in and they gave me a brand new one, but it immediately started happening again right out of the box. It’s insane to pay this much money and to have a screen that doesn’t work 25% if the time. I live in California and the phone is literally not usable when outside because the screen cuts to 10% max brightness. Guess I need to live with it... what a shame.

I get this too, but I found a pattern to it. I think it’s not to do with temperature and everything to do with battery consumption.

I installed WWF Free Rivers on my X. It seems very processor intensive. My AR image looked jittery - the processor was under heavy load. I have an app installed that I can monitor load, it was very high.

Importantly the phone was not hot, it was warm but basically fine. I did notice however that in the space of 1 minute I lost 2% of my battery power.

I also noticed that although my screen brightness was set at 100% it was actually only 50%. I determined that by turning it up and down and noticed that it got brighter until it hit 50% and then didn’t get brighter as I increased to 100% - anyone else notice that? It’s basically being capped at 50% brightness.

So I put 2 and 2 together and come up with 22.

I think Apple are capping the brightness under heavy load in order to limit battery consumption.

Again my phone wasn’t hot. I’ve felt it get hotter especially in bright summer sun and it doesn’t dim when hot.

Anyone else come to the same conclusion?

Same problem is happening to my iphoe x too jist got a new one couple a days from apple store and still the same issues everything is turned off true tone auto brightness is off too and still after using my iphonex for more than 15 min the screen goes dimmer by itself apple ****** me for$1200 i will never ever get another apple product and i will let a lot of people know about what’s going on and advise them not to buy apple products I understand I’m just a single person saying this and it might not effect apple loosing one costumer but slowly but surely they will loose lots of costumers i will go with a different phone from now on

Jul 18, 2018 11:28 AM in response to AnthonyAllstate

This is definetly heat related issue based on my usage and tests. I also have had my iPhone X replaced once after dealing with apple. No Fix. I was able to use a benchmark test to show them it happening in the store. In the car using waze on wireless charger dock it can dim pretty quickly, especially if it is warm outside. I have noticed that if I point my AC vent at the dock and blast it then the screen won't dim. I have also just pulled it off the dock and held it to the vent to cool it and that brings it back to life.

I agree this is complete bullsh*t that we pay $1200 for a phone that becomes unusable when we use it. I have never had a phone that does this, and the fact that only a few of the thousands of people have this issue shows that the phone wasn't designed this way. APPLE! FIX! THIS!
