iPhone X Excessive Data Usage

I got the iPhone X exactly a week ago. Ever since, I have completely regretted it. All-in-all, the phone is amazing, and I love it... but I have never run into to many issues as I have in the past week with this phone, than I have over the past 5 years that I have owned iPhones.

The phone I had before the X was the 7... I use data once and awhile, but I never go over my data plan which is 4GB per month. The morning after I get the iPhone X, I curiously check my data usage through my cell provider, and I had used almost 1GB. Rogers had stated that I had used almost 1GB of data at 10:34am last Friday (I didn't even have my phone on me as I was in a meeting, and it was connected to WIFI). Ever since, the data usage has been insane on this phone, to the point where I have contacted Apple and they have told me to turn my data usage off so I do not go over my usage. Almost all of my apps have their data usage turned off, I have always had WIFI assist and iCloud drive turned off, as well as background app refresh. It doesn't seem to matter if I am connected to WIFI, the phone seems to still love to eat up the data. Apple has given me no answers, other than the fact that the iPhone X has enhancements that might use cellular data regardless of a wifi connection. But for these enhancements to use so much that I have to actually turn off my data is ridiculous... They haven't been able to give me a more reasonable answer. This phone has become virtually useless to me, the second I turn my cellular back on the feast of data begins. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any answers? It's sad that this is what it's come to... Apple can't even give me an answer to an issue with their product.

My cellular data usage has dropped significantly by disabling iCloud drive and the Photo Library from uploading via cellular data. Now they only upload when connected to WiFi. Problem was I recorded some videos while I was away from a WiFi and it uploaded the videos to the Photo Library over the cellular connection. I checked my data usage after I got an alert from VZ stating I had reached 90% and I saw huge data usage the same times I was recording videos.

There may be some other oddities like Safari using 50MB to do a search, but I haven't noticed that yet. For the first time since getting the iPhone X, I now have extra data to rollover into next month's usage.

I had the same issue since 2 days ago, after investigating on my iPhoneX i FOUND THE CULPRIT of both symptoms: iPhone getting hot and consuming data.

CULPRIT: Photos app, uploading items (photos & videos) to the cloud, even having previously UN AUTHORIZED the app to use cellular data to upload items.

For some reason this was changed, the app was re authorised to use cellular data, and it started uploading items.

The unexplained thing is why, even after uploading all my items to the cloud (more than 43.000), sometimes they must be uploaded again.

Still a mystery.

My problem is solved, i PAUSE the Photos app uploading of items while I am on cellular.

One thing I've noticed since upgrading to iOS11 are Photos taking up a lot of data. Since photos and videos are no longer saved locally but on the iCloud, the device was uploading them all the time. The went for videos. So in either the photo or cellular settings, I turned off photos from using cellular data and only WiFi. That has seemed to help a great deal. Like you, the system settings still eat up data for some reason even though much of my time is spent on WiFi. Another thing I've noticed, and maybe it's always been this way and since I'm watching my data I notice it now, but iMessage is eating up a lot of data when sending pics or videos. Maybe because of the iPhone X's better camera (than my SE) and the photos are in higher resolution, more data is used.

I saw your post and checked my settings to see if I had an issue there as I'm finding cellular use higher than normal for me, regardless of all else I've done although those steps helped too, just not to the degree I'm used to. I just went into the YouTube app itself and turned off my data usage for it as well as limiting high data usage unless on WiFi. Going to be doing this for a few other apps on both of my phones. I had done this under cellular settings but as is fairly common for me, I got lax after updates to not only the phones but after updates to the apps as well. Many apps will default back to cellular after they update, so this is a nice and necessary reminder. Thank you for adding this to the post ~

Hi

Go to settings down to apps disable using cellular data on all the apps you don't need to use cellular data.

Then they will just work on wifi.

Go to i books download ios 11 user guide & iPhone X guide both are free.

System services should be about 4g.

Go to iCloud make sure iCloud back up is on Then backup now over your wifi.

Then go to settings down to reset Restore iPhone back to factory settings

Set back up over your wifi when it asks if you want to use iCloud backup Say yes to get your apps and data back this will get rid of any bugs.

Later go to books download ios 11 user guide & iPhone X guide both are free.

Cheers

I too have the same issue. I tried 3 geniuses in 2 stores, called multiple times, reset the phone in all kinds of ways, and changed my apple ID to a new one after a factory reset. None of this works. I honestly thought that new ID would do it but nope. "Apple ID Services" takes up cellular data even when wifi is ON and the phone is not doing anything. Say goodbye to 300mb of data while you sleep with all apps turned off and with wifi on. The only workaround is to have the cellular data turned off at all times. This has been happening to me for about 3 months or since the release of iOS 11. Prior to the forced update, I never had this issue. Even though I have 0 control over this (meaning, I can't turn off "Apple ID Services" like I can with apps) and paying for data I am not using, Apple obviously has bigger problems and won't even let me downgrade to iOS 10 which actually works.
