iPhone X Excessive Data Usage

I got the iPhone X exactly a week ago. Ever since, I have completely regretted it. All-in-all, the phone is amazing, and I love it... but I have never run into to many issues as I have in the past week with this phone, than I have over the past 5 years that I have owned iPhones.

The phone I had before the X was the 7... I use data once and awhile, but I never go over my data plan which is 4GB per month. The morning after I get the iPhone X, I curiously check my data usage through my cell provider, and I had used almost 1GB. Rogers had stated that I had used almost 1GB of data at 10:34am last Friday (I didn't even have my phone on me as I was in a meeting, and it was connected to WIFI). Ever since, the data usage has been insane on this phone, to the point where I have contacted Apple and they have told me to turn my data usage off so I do not go over my usage. Almost all of my apps have their data usage turned off, I have always had WIFI assist and iCloud drive turned off, as well as background app refresh. It doesn't seem to matter if I am connected to WIFI, the phone seems to still love to eat up the data. Apple has given me no answers, other than the fact that the iPhone X has enhancements that might use cellular data regardless of a wifi connection. But for these enhancements to use so much that I have to actually turn off my data is ridiculous... They haven't been able to give me a more reasonable answer. This phone has become virtually useless to me, the second I turn my cellular back on the feast of data begins. Has anyone else experienced this issue or have any answers? It's sad that this is what it's come to... Apple can't even give me an answer to an issue with their product.

My cellular data usage has dropped significantly by disabling iCloud drive and the Photo Library from uploading via cellular data. Now they only upload when connected to WiFi. Problem was I recorded some videos while I was away from a WiFi and it uploaded the videos to the Photo Library over the cellular connection. I checked my data usage after I got an alert from VZ stating I had reached 90% and I saw huge data usage the same times I was recording videos.

There may be some other oddities like Safari using 50MB to do a search, but I haven't noticed that yet. For the first time since getting the iPhone X, I now have extra data to rollover into next month's usage.

I have used 2.4MB with 1.9MB used for Push Notifications in a couple of days in Apple ID Services, and I'm almost always in Wifi. Not sure what this is about or why it doesn't just use the Wifi connection. Anyone? This amount isn't a deal breaker as it will add up to about 30MB a month but it's interesting that it uses cell data for this feature rather than Wifi when Wifi Assist, iCloud Drive, and Data Roaming are turned off.

Sure houdiniyoda.

You can change the brand or more just up to your favorite. Because we are using mostly top of the world brand Apple in here. You can learn knowledge to wide the technology ability. But im sure with you that the Apple not just as you said siri and the jamoji video calls only. Im just afraid that our in the small people amount to learn day by day about the technology in each so not simple. So that why you only use the siri and the jamoji video call only. Let's try with this particular product more than you will see how your phone changing. Maybe in the future Apple must have me working there. Lol. As you know the background behind the screen? There are all of the particularly and i was changes it some time so funny. I love it.

Any news on this issue? I'm experiencing the same problem right now. I was 7 days into my mobile data plan and I'm almost always at a wifi location, all of a sudden I got notified by my service provider that I'm over my 1 GB data usage. I never had this issue before. There's definitely something wrong with the phone.

Now I turned off all my data, icloud, and background app refresh to see if the phone continues to use up data... Hope Apple does something to fix this.

Thanks.

I believe the OP stated that he has already done the recommended... but as for ATT specially, even though the following is a great and useful tool I’m still largely regretful of being a customer of theirs, overall their services/connections/speed are surprisingly fast and stable being completely reliable. It’s their customer service that absolutely ruins it for me. I swear sometimes it’s like they march to their own beat and seem to be from a 4th world country. Sort of how I though Apple was and had become since the launch of the iPhone 5, but seeming to be angels on cloud 9 compared.

Anyway, if you want to ask ATT exactly how much

data was used between two specific dates they are able too not only show you but how much data is

I've just recevied my first bill for my new IPhone x, and it over 200 quid!!!! Apparently I have used 3gb over my 6gd allowance.

within the data usage in stats I've used over 70gb!! so it looked like I have got off ligthly.

The stats are impressive..

system services = 24gb

uninstalled apps = 5gb

youtube = 1.5gb

outlook = 4gb

safari = 5.5gb

mail = 5.1gb

facebook = 12.3gb

expressvpn = 6.8gb

you wouldn't think I have wifi at home. I'm not using the Iphone any differently than my last one where 3gb would be more than enough. What's going on!!!!

I feel your pain!!! I regret getting the X. First of all it isn't that great. It's a little bigger and face ID which is whatever and some things . The phone is faster but no big improvement. My data goes over day one of my 30 days. Its so frusterating. Talked to my phone carrier and their only response has been sorry.. The x is faster so it takes up data faster. How is this okay> isn't the point is for ALL of the phone to upgrade including data with it. Total regret. My 6S phone was just fine. Not worth X

Myself as well. Didn't matter what I did. Delete, reset network. One day into my new month it would suck up all my data and slow my speeds so streaming couldn't happen. I have gotten no resolution for it. Bummed I got the X because streaming on my mobile hotspot was more important to me than a fancy phone. I wish I knew this before because 6s never gave me issues

I too have the same problem. I don’t know who to blame, Apple or AT&T. My average usage is 1.76 gb per month (3 go plan). I just burned through that in 10 days with my expensive new iPhone. Almost every app is turned off. AT&T just moved me up to a 6 gb plan, since I went over my 3 gb (without my permission). Oh, they also charged me more money.

Not exactly sure who is doing the screwing, but absolutely sure that I am the one being screwed!

Help please.

My iPhone X just used my data quota for the month while connected to wifi. ***?

- Yes wifi assist is off. Has been since moment of purchase.

- I’d been receiving alerts from my service provider while watching YouTube, and:

- yes I checked wifi status was connected.

What’s going on? How long has this been happening? Data wastage has come at a cost, doesn’t seem all that reasonable that it’s happened given all the safe guards in settings.

Is it a bug? Hardware/connectivity oversight?

Hi to all,

The majority of related comments are talking about cellular data usage, and turning that off, go and using Wifi for everything. What if you have a package from your service provider (as I do, due to temporary adress) with a limited frame (50GB) for Wifi data?

My girlfriend just got an iphone X not long ago, and the data of 50 GB were more than enough till than for both of us for the period of one month. I have an iphone 5s, just cuz I love it. Now, her phone with the same settings as mine had used an excessive amount of data. I am not comparing the usage to mine, I am comparing it to what is maybe considered normal -> 1,5GB for couple of hours besides just browsing is definitely not. And please, lets skip through the "try to turn this and that off" and "monitor your data usage" types of answers, they really dont provide much of a solution to this problem.

Can anyone explain me, why is iphone X (with very same settings) has excessive data usage over other apple devices?

I would much appreciate an exact answer. Thanks a lot

This is happening with my new iPhone XS. It’s eating up huge amount of mobile data regardless of wifi. The phone used up 17.6 GB of data when I was in roaming in the span of an hour in the middle of the night when I was sleeping and phone was connected to wifi!! I was handed a bill if $14,000 by my service provider Optus and Apple has no answer till date!! I have gone to the Apple store, to Apple Support and till date they have nothing to say, other than keep the mobile data switched off!! Why have I bought a smart phone then if I can’t use it while travelling???
