Same here, although it seems to only be happening on my iPad (current iOS). So far I’ve only noticed this in one conversation.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see that your iMessage contacts appear out of order. Let's look into this together.
First, make sure your iPhone has been updated to the latest iOS version -- Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
If the issue persists after updating, the following information may help isolate the issue further:
1. Does this happen with multiple iMessage conversations?
2. Do you have Date & Time set to Automatic under Settings > General > Date & Time?
3. Do you see a red exclamation mark or "Not Delivered" alert under any of the messages you send?
Cheers.
Same issue...toggling the date/time didn't work...
Same issue for a last few weeks
Count me in as well... Same symptoms... recent problem... iOS update...yada yada yada
This has happened to me twice and I just do a hard reset (press Home and reset together until phone restarts) and it has corrected it both times.
I have done a hard reset many times and it always comes back.
Sorry to hear that how frustrating as it worked for me
Same issue here. Very annoying.
Same issue here.. It's getting annoying to the point I want my Android back.
Sorry but typical Apple bs. I am so sick of their crap.
I think that the clocks get out of sync between devices. Could it be due to the slowing of the clock on devices to preserve performance and battery life?
Resetting my iphone solves the problem (temporarily) without turning off/on imessage. I am trying your version to see if it helps.
if it helps I am on tmobile.
I’m having the same issue on iPhone 7
Only for the old messages. For the new ones it's happening again 😟
