iMessage - messages arriving in wrong order

Hi, just realized that during conversations on iMessage the ordering is not correct. When I ask question and sb reply to it quickly, the answer is being displayed before my question in conversation. Anybody have the same issue and know any resolution ?

Hi Streetspy,

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iMessage contacts appear out of order. Let's look into this together.

First, make sure your iPhone has been updated to the latest iOS version -- Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

If the issue persists after updating, the following information may help isolate the issue further:

1. Does this happen with multiple iMessage conversations?

2. Do you have Date & Time set to Automatic under Settings > General > Date & Time?

3. Do you see a red exclamation mark or "Not Delivered" alert under any of the messages you send?

Cheers.

Ok so the problem is the following:

When texting and leave the cursor blinking your reply will appear before the answer of the other person no matter who wrote what first. The time of your message is recorded as the time the cursor started blinking.

That’s why it happens only in quick texting and the app remains open

The solution is to tap somewhere else after you reply so that the text box is deselected

Pretty annoying let’s hope it will change at a further update

Despite being on the latest MacOS version, the problem has re-appeared and is now worse than it was before. I was having a conversation and all the messages were all in the correct order. Suddenly all the messages I had received disappeared. Scrolling up I can see the last 30 messages I sent with the 30 I received above them.

As Apple are showing no sign of fixing this issue, I am now implementing my own solution. I will stop using iMessage.

I think I solved it. The clock from my iPhone vs my Mac was 45 seconds behind. So all texts that I sent from my computer where 45 seconds before, therefore the answer that was sent at the same time, came in with a different time that is why it was places before the actual question (it seems that the iPhone app dictates de Mac app). You have to sync both clocks and the problem solves immediately. Hope this helps. It was driving me crazy.

Hello,

My very first post here and I’m excited!

This issue with iMessage happens to me with all iMessage conversations between multiple contacts, regardless. It is nearly every message unless they’re long. I have the 11.2.6 and haven’t updated yet. Every time I do, my iPhone 6 Plus slows down more.

Also 3 Yes’ across the board. I believe Lee recommended this..?

Let me know if anyone comes up with anything. I guess I should go ahead and download 11.4.1.

I’ll try turning iMessage off, restarting, and then turning it back on.

Bula,

Skeeter

Hi

I have had this issue since 2017, and after a brief period of it not happening, the issue has returned. iMessages appearing and receiving in the wrong order/not getting notifications from messages as they appear above my own messages/wrong time stamp on messages. I have spoken to Apple 4 separate times about it, to be told to try the usual actions to fix it - none of which have worked. I have a phone call arranged with a senior advisor so they can pass on the info to the engineers who are 'currently working to resolve the issue'. Seriously unimpressed - I am paying a lot of money to have this phone and it is not working as it should be.
