Ever Since I updated to iOS 11.2.1 my messages do not show in correct order Ive tried restart manually setting time and 24hr time. Nothing seems to fix this issue driving me nuts constantly missing text because overlooking. They are showing as if they were received before other messages. Common Apple your killing me how can I keep speaking so highly of you when lately you've been letting me down.
iPhone 6s, iOS 11.2.1
I just got off the phone with Advanced Support from Apple and Now have mine working.
If you go into Settings > General > Date & Time > Turn off Set Automatically for about 10-15 seconds and turn it back on.
I did this and have now tested it with a new message thread as well as an exiting message thread with two people that I have had the problem with and it is now working correctly.
now i can see the replies saying 11.2.2 fixes it, guess i should update 😁
The only workaround I found was to disable iMessage and go back to SMSs. It's really annoying, but not as annoying as having your messages out of order...
Update to 11.3
I've now narrowed down the fix to just rebooting and it fixes the issue for a few days. So, just reboot once a day and imessage texts will be IN ORDER.
This can't be a carrier issue as this issue is spread across several carriers. I live in a household who uses both AT&T and Verizon and we all are experiencing this.
WiFi connection makes no difference. Apps, software, soft resets have all been done and verified.

Person B responds. Within 1-3 minutes

Having worked for Verizon for 6 years, seeing copious mysterious problems and diagnoses, this issue by its characteristics cannot be any of the networks at fault.
Ive had the same isssue over the past few days With my ipad and iPhone. A reboot of my ipad and iphone has resulted in the texts now appearing in the correct order.
No settings were changed before or after.
11.2.2 update did not fix it for me. After the update, everything worked fine for a few days but the problem is back today. Toggling automatic time and date setting does absolutely nothing to fix this problem. Only restarting Messages app “fixes” message ordering for some time, a day or two. Then it is back again.
I just watched messages in my conversation being reordered. I sent message and got read receipt with time stamp 10:40 am. The clock on my phone was 10:39. Looks like clocks on two phones are definitely out of sync by a few seconds.
None of these "fixes" people are mentioning do anything but reorder already existing texts into proper chronological order. This can only be fixed properly with software update...simply messing with the time settings, rebooting or resetting some settings can compensate for a bug in the code
April 2018. Same imessge out-of-sequence problem unfortunately.
Reboots etc don't help. I've switched iMessage off for now. Using my providers SMS and WhatsApp -they work flawlessly (Signal might be an alternative too).
Apple -can you help?
Same thing happening to myself and my husband. It only started when I updated carrier settings a couple of days ago. I think that may be the problem.
On an iPhone 7 you hard reboot with the volume down button, not the home button. And you should only hard reboot if your phone is frozen or non responsive. It could delete data.
My is working since I did the hold the buttons down. I will report it though to get more complaints to Apple! Thanks for letting everyone know.
I cannot walk you through the fix but I can tell you it can be fixed quite easily and quickly by calling Apple support 😊 I’m sad I put up with this annoyance for so long. Call them it’s worth it!
And 11.3 doesn't fix the issue it seems? You guys gotta do the apple feedback link. That's the ONLY way it'll get fixed.
