IMessage/Text Messages Out Of Order

Ever Since I updated to iOS 11.2.1 my messages do not show in correct order Ive tried restart manually setting time and 24hr time. Nothing seems to fix this issue driving me nuts constantly missing text because overlooking. They are showing as if they were received before other messages. Common Apple your killing me how can I keep speaking so highly of you when lately you've been letting me down.

No unfortunately nothing I have tried has worked. Driving me insane hopefully they fix this vwith next update. I believe its related to the seconds in the tome settings in the code. It seems that if it is a message recieved within same minute they get placed together but seconds arent written in.

The 10.13.3 update does nothing. Have it installed since 1/23 - been having the problem regardless of the patch.

This is clearly a far larger issue here because phones and the app on Mac have the exact same issue. Its fun to see a response come in messages BEFORE the one I just sent asking something.

Gotta love it when you see this type of high quality crap from Apple

Me: When did you say you want to meet?
Friend: 8:00pm, you?

Friend: Great see you at 8:15!

Me: I'm running a bit late, how's 8:15?

Me too. This is extremely annoying. Apple’s programming was great back in the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5s days, but recently it’s been nothing but glitches. Even autocorrect used to be better. Now Apple is more concerned about making me sign up for ApplePay and having my credit card information exposed by being stored one more place than it is with making its phones function well. Ever since the last update, my phone dies quickly, so something [useless] in the new programming is draining the battery. I will be switching to another type of smartphone shortly...

This fixes your problem on iOS

1) go to General -> Date & Time -> and disable "Set Automatically"

2) Force quit Messages app (double tap the home button and swipe the Messages app upwards)

3) Launch Messages again. Your messages should now be in order

4) Change Date & Time back to "Set Automatically"

This occurs generally when you change time zones (i.e. you've been traveling a bit... lucky you!)

You're welcome! 🙏-1F3FD;

I can't say 100% this worked but I only had this issue with one person. I did all of the suggested things within this thread and still nothing. Then I started to wonder, why is it only with one person. I realized that I have "Send Receipt" on for that person. I took it off and it hasn't happened yet. My old messages are still out of order but nothing has happened with new messages. I'm not going to hold my breath that it works or will continue to work but at this moment it does seem to be the solution for me at this moment. Now I only did this "fix" about 30 minutes ago but I've texted my friend since and they have not gone out of order. Beforehand I could be waiting for their response and I would see their response move up and show above my original text. So far there's been none of that today, so I'm hoping this fixes it and that the fix isn't temporarily.

I already have read receipt off and so do most of the people I text and we have the problem. The only fix is for Apple to fix it as they broke it with one of their updates. Seems to me like their last update to try to fix it helped a little but it’s still broke. Meaning, since the update I now notice that if the text is longer than a minute old and their is then a response it show properly. Any text that is answered within the same minute the order gets messed up. So many texts are answered right away so their fix is not really working.

A version of this worked on my MacBook Pro... but slightly different problem. I had lost an entire thread that was still in tact on both my iPad and iPhone. I tried above fix, it's now back. Even quirkier, while the conversation was "lost" messages sent to another individual would show up in another thread - they were in an older group message together. I think it may have been triggered by my attempt to record a flight from PDT to EDT and messed with time zone settings. Won't do that again. This is messed up.

Also noted the out of order problem on iPad and iPhone. Wish me luck.

I fixed this as follows:

- Open Privacy > Location Services

- Scroll all the way down to Advanced > Setting Time Zone, and turn On

- Go to Settings > Date & Time and select Set Automatically

Do this across all devices running iOS.

Shortly after, Messages will appear in order they are recieved. Past ones didn’t reorder. Just new ones.

Because it's not, I work in telecoms and IT and I'll tell you it's not, you're probably better listening to the guy who also advised he worked for a carrier (Verizon)... If I text someone and it shows on my phone as delivered, then they send me one back and it goes above the one I sent them as a reply to my delivered message, then that is a bug in the software, just so you know
