I had exact same issue. They are insisting I did it and it’s classified as accidental and will cost $549.00 to fix I asked if I dropped it to cause crack how is there no other mark or scratch on case or on raises lense casing. Only glass is cracked! From all I ha e read sounds like a defect to me in the iPhone X.
I think that we need all to get this problem on social media and share and get everyone to report it to Apple, they will get the message

Bought iPhone X right before Christmas, and found a crack on the rear camera glass last night. The phone has been used with cover all the time and no drop or accident. Went to Apple Store this morning and was told to pay 50% of the retail price to have it fixed. Are you kidding me Apple??? This obviously is a design/material flaw! We are so very disappointed. Currently all family members are using iPhone but with such a bad experience we will switch.
Is anyone from Apple actively monitoring this discussion board?
Please go read the term of service you signed up for and that will answer your question about Apple

I’m having the same exact issue. Expensive case on the phone; never dropped it. The glass around the microphone hole of the lens has caved in. Apple wants $550 to replace the device. We deserve free replacements for this defect.
Good luck with that. You say you've not dropped your phone? It's highly likely someone did.
Don't count on a recall of any kind. That would only happen IF this was a truly significant issue effecting most users and by the size of this thread, it's clearly not a major issue. Why it's happening to a small group is unknown, but still statistically insignificant when one considers the millions upon millions of iPhone X's sold worldwide.
I was looking at my phone yesterday and noticed a small crack on the camera lens that looks almost like a rock chip in a car windshield. It's right next to the flash and I thought..."hmmm... that's strange, was this a normal thing and I I just never noticed?" Having an OtterBox case and never dropping my phone I found it odd that it would crack. I jumped online and ran a quick search to see what was up. Sure enough this thread was the very first link. It seems rather evident there is an issue. And to the user stating that it a small percentage of phones; it's also possible that just as small a percentage of people took the time to register to make comments on something widespread. You can add me to the list of "small percentage".
yeah, that looks very similar to my lens issue for sure. I guess it could be cold that did but when I'm outside it's mainly in my jacket. It might get pulled out to check a message but that's only seconds. This should not be so sensitive for sure. I will try rbrylawski's suggestion and try to be super nice to the Apple people. It's just tough to see such a blemish on such an expensive device. On a positive note, it does not seem to affect picture quality so far. Let's hope it doesn't spread!
I have not dropped my phone once and have taken great care of it.
Noticed there was a small chip the other week, it then got worse and actually turned into a hole.
Cut my finger when I reached into my jacket pocket.
I just filed and insurance claim and have to pay over $200 for a replacement.
Very disappointed.
You think this is a bigger problem???
I am in Australia. Had the exact problem with the I phone X camera lens crack as has been described in all these posts. As with other people I have had numerous I phones and have never ever had a problem. There is obviously some fault/weakness in the lens.Apple please take note.
The day that I got my phone I put it in a strong case that protects the phone the front and the back put a screen protector on the front. And the lens is recessed at least a 16th of an inch. And camera lens glass cracked! I took it to Apple (I do have AppleCare) and they wanted to charge me $100 to replace the phone. I never dropped it, I don’t keep anything in that pocket other than my phone. Design flaw apple get it together dudes !!!

Same here. I opened a request in the German community. https://communities.apple.com/de/thread/200025553
Apple Store told me exactly the same. I have to pay 599€ for a replacement.
I also went for a weekend trip to the alps. Maybe there is an issue with cold?!
I’m really disappointed.
I had the same thing happen with my iphone x except im almost sure it was damaged by the cold weather i live in minnesota and we had a big blizzard here while i was working delivering food and i noticed a small white bubble next to the microphone and it grew throughout my 12 hour shift and eventually turned into a full crack from the microphone hole all the way to the other end of the hard 9h saphire lens clearly a design flaw for i havent dropped it once i made an appointment and brought it to apple to have a genius look at it 6 days after calling to have them tell me its damaged and the warrenty doesnt cover it if i damaged it i asked if they could inspect it for further cosmetic damage to make sure it hadnt been dropped for further research in regards to future customers and the inquire for apple to learn more about this problem for their customers and he said no. Im super confused honestly this is the first apple iphone i have ever bought and im extremly sad.
I have the same problem, with my iPhone X. Lens is cracked, and the iPhone has never been dropped nor has the phone shared my front pocket with keys or loose change. I was told at the Apple store that the lens is integral to the case, and can't be replaced, but rather the phone needs to be replaced in its entirety - $549. This seems crazy, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that it's waterproof. The camera works fine, but I'm concerned that it will eventually fail - and that I'll discover it at a time when I'm really counting on it for an important (to me of course) photo. The Apple rep at the store told me that I could replace it, and if the problem is later discovered to be a product defect Apple would likely reimburse me. But as of now, it is just "how it is". I've been a loyal Apple customer, shareholder, and have recommended iPhones to many people. For myself or my family, I have purchased more than 20 iPhones - and I have always been thrilled with the product - until now.
I put a protective case with a cover that protects the lens with a recessed Very THICK case. And the thin cheap lens glass on the iPhone X 256GB cracked in my pocket with nothing else in my pocket. What’s the deal Apple? I was told that I would have to use up one of my AppleCare replacements and it would cost me $99 to fix this… They will give me another phone with another thin, weak defective glass lens cover. It will just happen again! What are you gonna do about this Apple?

Apple, the ONLY FAIR SOLUTION is reengineer, strengthen the lens. Make a lens shield READILY available. And repair or replace iPhones with an “anemic“ lens glass.
Can you say: “Takata Airbags”?

My Mum dropped her X from 1 foot, fell off a coffee table. Screen was fine but the lenses of both cameras were shattered. We went to the Apple store who said there was nothing they could do :( Feeling a bit ripped off that you guys could get a new one for half the price, we weren’t given that option and had to buy a new one at full price. Come on Apple
