iPhone X lens cracked

I can see a few people have also had their iPhone X camera lens crack !!!! My was bought on a Thursday and instantly put into a case and had a glass screen protector fitted, by the end of the weekend my lens had a crack in it and then the next day a complete hole around the lens !!! No drops, no keys or coins in my pockets nothing.... same story from apple only complete phone replacement at a cost of $750.... obviously there is a flaw in the lens glass.... I’ve owned every iPhone since 2007 and ( touch wood ) never cracked a screen and finally to buy the panicle of iPhones only to have it break for no reason after a few days is extremely disappointing....

Same problem here. Crack developed on rear camera lens starting at the LED flash and extending up to the top camera.

I do not have AppleCare so paid Apple 588 dollars (with tax) for a replacement phone. This is absurd. It is obviously a design flaw with the X. There is no way to just fix the lens, so it is either live with it or replace the phone.

My Visa will cover the cost of “repair”, but I am losing faith in Apple.

Don't count on a recall of any kind. That would only happen IF this was a truly significant issue effecting most users and by the size of this thread, it's clearly not a major issue. Why it's happening to a small group is unknown, but still statistically insignificant when one considers the millions upon millions of iPhone X's sold worldwide.

I was looking at my phone yesterday and noticed a small crack on the camera lens that looks almost like a rock chip in a car windshield. It's right next to the flash and I thought..."hmmm... that's strange, was this a normal thing and I I just never noticed?" Having an OtterBox case and never dropping my phone I found it odd that it would crack. I jumped online and ran a quick search to see what was up. Sure enough this thread was the very first link. It seems rather evident there is an issue. And to the user stating that it a small percentage of phones; it's also possible that just as small a percentage of people took the time to register to make comments on something widespread. You can add me to the list of "small percentage".

It's hard to tell from the photo but it's not a scratch. It's 100% a crack. The phone is only kept in my breast pocket of my winter coat then it sits in a stand on my desk at work all day. (rinse and repeat) Never put in a pocket with keys. I could understand it if was ever dropped but having paid what I did for this thing...trust me...it's handled better than a parent holding onto a newborn during an earthquake while riding horseback over dirt roads. 😀

yeah, that looks very similar to my lens issue for sure. I guess it could be cold that did but when I'm outside it's mainly in my jacket. It might get pulled out to check a message but that's only seconds. This should not be so sensitive for sure. I will try rbrylawski's suggestion and try to be super nice to the Apple people. It's just tough to see such a blemish on such an expensive device. On a positive note, it does not seem to affect picture quality so far. Let's hope it doesn't spread!

I have not dropped my phone once and have taken great care of it.

Noticed there was a small chip the other week, it then got worse and actually turned into a hole.

Cut my finger when I reached into my jacket pocket.

I just filed and insurance claim and have to pay over $200 for a replacement.

Very disappointed.

You think this is a bigger problem???

Same here. No drop, always in a case, iPhone X 3 months old. Lense cover cracked. Told by Western Computers Preston they cannot just replace the glass. £570 to repair.

I am insulted that they wouldn’t get a technician to look at it to see if it was a defect. ASIC consumer rights.

I am insulted to have paid £1000 for a phone that has an inherent design flaw.

I am insulted a £1000 phone could have such a poor maintence concept where by damage to a protruding glass surface requires the replacement of the whole camera! Bad engineering.

Finally I am insulted that Apple care plus cannot be purchased because phone is over 60 days old. I wasn’t informed of apple care plus on purchase or the 60 day period.

Western computers Preston should be ashamed. Told me to bring it back when it stops the camera working because repair will be very expensive. Customer care at its finest.....
