iPhone X lens cracked

I can see a few people have also had their iPhone X camera lens crack !!!! My was bought on a Thursday and instantly put into a case and had a glass screen protector fitted, by the end of the weekend my lens had a crack in it and then the next day a complete hole around the lens !!! No drops, no keys or coins in my pockets nothing.... same story from apple only complete phone replacement at a cost of $750.... obviously there is a flaw in the lens glass.... I’ve owned every iPhone since 2007 and ( touch wood ) never cracked a screen and finally to buy the panicle of iPhones only to have it break for no reason after a few days is extremely disappointing....

Same issue - my phone has always been in a case, never dropped, never in my pocket with keys, the rest of the phones looks absolutely perfect with no scratches or anything and suddenly today the glass on the camera is cracked by the mic hole - like it’s caved in almost. This is an obvious desgin flaw if so many people are saying the exact same thing has happened. I’ve had every iPhone since the 3g and I’ve never had an any issue with any of them - this is the first time and I 100% know I didn’t drop it or do anything to abuse it in the least. I really hope Apple addresses this soon.

The day that I got my phone I put it in a strong case that protects the phone the front and the back put a screen protector on the front. And the lens is recessed at least a 16th of an inch. And camera lens glass cracked! I took it to Apple (I do have AppleCare) and they wanted to charge me $100 to replace the phone. I never dropped it, I don’t keep anything in that pocket other than my phone. Design flaw apple get it together dudes !!!

I put a protective case with a cover that protects the lens with a recessed Very THICK case. And the thin cheap lens glass on the iPhone X 256 cracked in my pocket with nothing else in my pocket. What’s the deal Apple? I was told that I would have to use up one of my AppleCare replacements and it would cost me $99 to fix this… They will give me another phone with another thin, weak defective glass lens cover. It will just happen again! What are you gonna do about this Apple?

Apple, the ONLY FAIR SOLUTION is reengineer, strengthen the lens. Make a lens shield READILY available. And repair or replace iPhones with an “anemic“ lens glass.

My wife and both bought iPhone X’s. Both have experienced pock marks on the cover of the rear facing phone near the led flash. My wife’s is larger with a small flair running up to the top lense. Mine is about the size of then point of a sharp Pencil point. Took to apple store and was told my phone has a flaw yet my wife’s phone was damaged and is not covered. Apple care will cover her phone but replacements is 99.00

I had the same thing happen with my iphone x except im almost sure it was damaged by the cold weather i live in minnesota and we had a big blizzard here while i was working delivering food and i noticed a small white bubble next to the microphone and it grew throughout my 12 hour shift and eventually turned into a full crack from the microphone hole all the way to the other end of the hard 9h saphire lens clearly a design flaw for i havent dropped it once i made an appointment and brought it to apple to have a genius look at it 6 days after calling to have them tell me its damaged and the warrenty doesnt cover it if i damaged it i asked if they could inspect it for further cosmetic damage to make sure it hadnt been dropped for further research in regards to future customers and the inquire for apple to learn more about this problem for their customers and he said no. Im super confused honestly this is the first apple iphone i have ever bought and im extremly sad.

I posted previously this also happened to myself as well, but I very much doubt cold weather has anything to do with it since I'm in FL and this thing has never seen freezing temperatures. The crack when I noticed it was right by the mic hole, same as everyone else. It seems to me that the issue is the mic hole being in the middle of the glass has created a stress point for the glass to easily break. With my phone it's always been in a case, it's never been dropped, it's never been in a pocket with keys, the rest of the phone looks 100% brand new with no minor scratches or anything. You figure only a small percentage of a small percentage actually take the time to post something, so enough people are saying the same thing that these are not isolated incidents.

Please take the time to do a follow-up and let us know how Apple treats you. I've had every phone since the 3G and never had an issue with any of them, but my girlfriend had a iPhone 4S that she dropped and broke the screen, I took it to Apple expecting to pay the $200 or whatever it was at the time and instead they just handed me another phone without charging anything, they were great about it. In this case I'd expect if you go to an Apple Store, you're polite and explain the issue and have a history with them they'll probably take care of the issue without any hassle, at least I'd hope so since this isn't an user created problem, it's a defect.

I have exactly the same issue around the mic - apple wanted £500+ to replace the phone as they can't fix this glass.

It's not actually a lens. It's the camera cover. It's made of synthetic sapphire crystal and is physically fused to the case. It's a design choice made by Apple. Unfortunately that means it can't be repaired separately by Apple. Anything that damages the case is only "repaired" as a complete replacement by Apple.

I have the same problem, with my iPhone X. Lens is cracked, and the iPhone has never been dropped nor has the phone shared my front pocket with keys or loose change. I was told at the Apple store that the lens is integral to the case, and can't be replaced, but rather the phone needs to be replaced in its entirety - $549. This seems crazy, but I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that it's waterproof. The camera works fine, but I'm concerned that it will eventually fail - and that I'll discover it at a time when I'm really counting on it for an important (to me of course) photo. The Apple rep at the store told me that I could replace it, and if the problem is later discovered to be a product defect Apple would likely reimburse me. But as of now, it is just "how it is". I've been a loyal Apple customer, shareholder, and have recommended iPhones to many people. For myself or my family, I have purchased more than 20 iPhones - and I have always been thrilled with the product - until now.

My Mum dropped her X from 1 foot, fell off a coffee table. Screen was fine but the lenses of both cameras were shattered. We went to the Apple store who said there was nothing they could do :( Feeling a bit ripped off that you guys could get a new one for half the price, we weren’t given that option and had to buy a new one at full price. Come on Apple

Dropping the phone is not what this is about - the issue here is the camera glass breaking on its own by no fault of the user. Please keep it on topic as people dropping phones - we all know that can damage the phone and while it stinks that isn’t a manufacturing defect and if everyone who dropped their phone posted that here this thread would serve no purpose.
