iPhone X lens cracked

I can see a few people have also had their iPhone X camera lens crack !!!! My was bought on a Thursday and instantly put into a case and had a glass screen protector fitted, by the end of the weekend my lens had a crack in it and then the next day a complete hole around the lens !!! No drops, no keys or coins in my pockets nothing.... same story from apple only complete phone replacement at a cost of $750.... obviously there is a flaw in the lens glass.... I’ve owned every iPhone since 2007 and ( touch wood ) never cracked a screen and finally to buy the panicle of iPhones only to have it break for no reason after a few days is extremely disappointing....

Dropping the phone is not what this is about - the issue here is the camera glass breaking on its own by no fault of the user. Please keep it on topic as people dropping phones - we all know that can damage the phone and while it stinks that isn’t a manufacturing defect and if everyone who dropped their phone posted that here this thread would serve no purpose.

It's kind of hard for the user to prove that a crack wasn't the result of a drop. The other thing is that the sapphire doesn't necessarily crack like glass.

Hi reading your report had same thing happen to me my i phone 7 overheated on monday whislt in my bag took out temperature was reading red danger level turned off was red hot, when i turned back on noticed camera lense was broke which had only happened when it over heated i have not dropped. Went into apple today not impressed waiting for report back from their technicians but they basically saying its saphine lense and impossible to break and dont think it will be covered but they can sort out over heating and now battery draining but none of this my fault as im am reading quite a lot of people having same issue. Just trying to find information obviously apple do have a problem but need to sort this fault out.

Just had a similar experience to yours this morning. I woke up to my camera lens cracked! I had a few notifications go off during the night while the phone was laying on its back. There was no visible crack in the camera lens when I put it on the charger last night. I assume that the vibrations from the notifications cracked the lens but that seems crazy. I just don't have any other explanation as to how it could have happened. It seems this is a growing problem and $550 to fix it is unacceptable! At a total loss of what to do next.

My iPhone X lens cracked near the microphone area for no apparent reason. I searched online and found this thread. I do not see any acknowledgment from Apple anywhere here. I have always had the apple silicon case on the phone ever since I got it last Nov.

It's only going to get worse with glass breaking even further. It's also not water-proof anymore! This is so very disappointing!

No one is obviously asking for a direct answer here. Just an acknowledgement of the problem, as Apple reads this forum for sure.

There's one more thing I'm sure about: that this is an issue (maybe on a very small percentage of iPhone Xs), and not our fault. So Apple must acknowledge the problem and find a solution, because we payed also for the support and maintenance service.

I took my phone to the Apple store three days ago for a replacement Apple case and to have a glass screen protector fitted. All was well. There was no damage to the phone at this stage. Now, three days later I have a hole just like a stone chip, right next to the lens. It has not been dropped nor put in a pocket with coins or keys. What is going on?

Am taking it back to the Apple store today. Very disappointed. This phone cost over £1000. I am not happy!!!

I’ve had the exact same issue when I left on my trip phone lens was fine by end of week it was cracked down the middle. I’m the only one who handled my phone. Never dropped once and in a secure Kate spade case that is higher than lens level. Apple employee kept saying maybe you didn’t realize you dropped your phone! How does someone not realize that. I don’t drink or do drugs. But they insist it’s was me dropping it that caused it when I know I didn’t. They want $549 to fix. Clearly it’s a defect. They should be responsible. Most likely will be my last iPhone. They don’t want to fix anything anymore!

Same here I acknowledge in past I have dropped other I phone so many times nothing has ever cracked. Mine camera lense on iPhone X cracked and they are insisting I didn’t realize I dropped my phone! I told her I don’t drink so how would I not know I dropped my phone. Not to mention my phone is always in a case. From the amount of complaints I’d say this phone has a default and they need to step up.

I have the same problem. Bought my new iphoneX three days back. It was always in the case and had screen protector since the time I bought the phone. I never dropped it and always kept in my pocket. Today I noticed a crack in front of the rear camera and was extremly dissapointed. I am

using my iphone 6s since last 3 year which doesnt have a single fine scratch on complete body, so you can imagine the level of care I take of my device. Now reading this complete thread, I dont see any hope of getting this fixed in Apple Store but will give a try.

Apple Team! This is high time to take some serious steps and work on fixing this problem. With so many users sharing the same experience, there seems to be a genuine design issue.

I have been a customer EE phone network & Apple for at least 10 years now & in the past 5 months of having the IPhone X I have had enough! I noticed there was a crack on the camera lense a month after getting the phone it had not been dropped & has had a cover on it since day 1. EE

stated as not noticed or reported 72 hours after receiving the phone it’s nothing to do with them I have to speak to Apple. Apple told me to keep an eye on it it’s been noted with a certain batch it will be nothing to worry about, it won’t get worse. There is now a complete hole around the lens. I rang EE & Apple again both blaming each other. I have been into Apple tonight at Trafford centre Store (UK) after being advised over the phone to take it in and my warranty will cover replacement & fix! WRONG it doesn’t cover cosmetic damage & expected to pay £500 to fix this fault with your product! EE advised there insurance doesn’t cover IPhone X. There is a thread on Apple support proving this is a common fault so as I don’t have £500 to fix this and it’s not my fault! I’m beyond annoyed and personally don’t have £500 which is more then my rent to fix this and looking at this thread it’s clearly a fault with the product
