This has been happening to me for a while now. At first I wasn't sure, but now it is clear that the messages are disappearing. I get a notification, I look at my phone, I see a text and can read the initial section, I unlock my phone, the text is nowhere to be found. This is happening for work and has lead to several upset clients and lost business. Please help solve this.

There are tons of people on this thread that have this same problem.

Unfortunately, it looks like Apple already 'recommended' an answer to the original post, but that post was not an actual answer and misunderstood the original post.

It's possible that this thread is not going to show on Apple's radar because they may think it's already been answered, even though this is a REAL PROBLEM.

I was finally able to get a VIDEO of this issue.

I must apologize twice over for the quality of the video. First because it was filmed while in the car and also for my very quick and rough attempts to blur out my text message numbers/content.

The video shows how I received 2 text messages when my phone was off, one from Android and one from iPhone. When turned on, the iPhone shows both texts on the lock screen, but then when unlocked, ONLY the iPhone message ever appears in the Messages app and the Android sent text message disappears and is gone forever.

Keeping this thread active by replying. I am having the same issue with my phone. It doesn't matter which type of phone is sending the message, but what is consistent that it always occurs when messages arrive to the phone when it is off. The notification screen shows the number only, not the name of the contact, the red badge will show momentarily once I use the pass-code for the phone; however, within a second the red badge disappears and upon loading the imessage app the text is not there.

Correct. It was from the Messages app.

This has happened 3 times so far on 3 different days. The first one was from my pharmacist. On the lock screen, in the Message banner notification, I could see the sender AND the text of the message, which was a reminder to pick up a Rx. When I unlocked my phone, the Messages app did not show a red 1 badge, and when I opened the Messages app, the new message was NOT there, even though I could see all the other past text messages from my Pharmacist.

This happened at least 2 other times, once on another regular txt message and once on an iMessage.

Sorry, I do not have a screenshot.

It only happens with text messages sent by Android users. This covers the majority of people though.

I have an iPhone 6s with 11.2.6 operating system. It appears to be a problem for others with this model, too.

1. iPhone is off.

2. Turn iPhone on and hear iMessage sound. See the start of one.

3. Put in passcode to access phone and message.

4. Text message is gone.

I have less than 5 text messages so that’s not the issue. It has something to do with turning the phone off, and using a passcode. The trouble goes away if there’s no passcode option in place. I don’t want my phone free to anyone to use if it’s lost though so a passcode is a must.

For some reason, the texts appear if I don’t turn the phone off and use airplane mode along with keeping the option to have a passcode in place.

Just spent 52 minutes on the phone & the rep is going to get back to me on Friday. He was very patient & seemed to be trying his best as I had been in the store this week for 2 hours & on the phone w/ them 3 other times. We have tried a number of things & I already did a restore & he did say we may have to do it again but maybe don't follow that up w/ a back up from iCloud...I will keep folks posted. I might add that more folks should sched a time w/ support ( they are very good about calling right on time ..maybe just a few minutes after sched time) & then they will be more aware of the issue...( I sched on line thru Apple.com)

OK so I was on the phone again yesterday. Apple got more info & took some screen shots of my phone. They seem to be more aware of it & are trying to figure it out. What did/has seemed to work since yesterday is I took my pass code off per recommendation of Apple to see if I got messages. I am now getting messages from all the folks that I was not. This is not a fix though as one shld have a pass code, but at least you can turn your phone off!. Again I will keep folks posted as I have a f/u call on Friday.

Yes, I mentioned earlier in this stream that turning the passcode option off will allow you to receive text messages that arrive when your phone is turned off.

The only way to get Android texts when you use a passcode is to put your phone on airplane mode instead of turning it off. This allows you to turn off the Internet and receipt of phone calls and text messages when you don’t want the noise and interruptions. You’ll still receive the Android texts after you take you phone off airplane mode and open it by putting in your password.

Tech support wasn’t able to help me and they also took over my screen and did screenshots. Totally resetting my phone didn’t work either. I went through multiple support staffers and weeks worth of testing. I found the hacks here in the community of users, not through Apple’s workforce.

I tried some more testing with this with a friend that is on Android.

1. Turned off my iPhone.

2. Had my Android friend text me.

3. Wait 10 minutes.

4. Turn on my iPhone.

I tried this twice and each time, the text message from Android came through correctly. It showed up as a notification and then showed up in Messages app just like it should.

I was thinking that the issue was fixed.

Unfortunately, I was wrong, and the original issue happened AGAIN today with another text message after I turned on my phone :--(

Maybe it has to do with how long your phone is off for.
